Brewster; I don't want to be unkind but...

No I probably couldn’t see Leeds or Burnley signing him if they were in the Premier League. But on a free in the championship he will be worth a punt for a lot of teams out there. He is about to turn 25, he still could easily have 12 years left in him within the top 2 divisions. This season played 30 scored 4 with 3 assists so far and he is just finding a bit of form, he could get into double figures which would be rare for us of late.

You’ve totally ignored my post. You asked why we hadn’t seen it, I told you why. You’ve not even acknowledged that. I’m not debating whether he was good or not. I gave reasons why he was bad.

If you’ve spent years watching an unfit, low on confidence Brewster not getting a run of games looking bad on the pitch. And now you’re watching him getting a run of games while fit and high on confidence and wondering why he’s playing better, I can’t help you.

Because we shouldn't sign someone based on a few good games. That is all he has done over a long period. If we offered him a contract in the Premier league again it may be the most mental bit of business I can remember.

A Preston or a Swansea maybe, no way would Leeds or Burnley sign him in the championship.

Not as a starter but for their bench I could see it for Leeds and Ipswich, though probably not Burnley for style of football reasons.

Was … past tense, yes he cost us £25 million at a time we had £25 million to spend. Yes it was a massive gamble but ultimately broken down it’s £5million a season, that’s half a Tom Cannon and Brewster has scored 4 more than him this season for us.

When you look at players, the simple goals vs games isn’t the be all and end all, he is putting in a shift and looking like he cares. If he extends to next season, it’s one less player we have to worry about finding the budget for. Rather than spending £10s of millions on the next Brewster that might or might not make it, extend the one we have invested in and see if he does.

But we can offer him a lifeline on a small contract. The boy has talent (has he has shown recently) why wouldn’t we?

Wilder said he cost us a lot less than figures quoted. I’m assuming some of the fee was add ons which never materialised?

In a strange way he sort of reminds me of Duffy in the positions he gets into.

He's more direct and a goal threat rather than a tricky creative midfielder but you're right he has found his niche in this team.

Come on, you know better than that. The prevailing wisdom is, he cost us £18M, rising to £23(5?) dependent on the fulfilment of certain criteria. I think it's fair to assume those criteria have not been met, through no fault of his own I might add.

Quite possibly which if we factor in the young top team Premier League player premium, the age grade England international Premium and the fact he had just wanged in 10 goals in 20 games in the championship. These days it’s a steal.

Compare it to a similar pedigree. David Nugent when at the time we were after him in the ‘07 Jan Transfer window we had a club record bid turned down (club record was then £3million) he went to Portsmouth for in the region of £7million which was out of our reach then. But nearly 20 years later players with promise attract premium price. It showed with Liverpool having the buyback clause that they wanted him back if he proved himself

I think he's an intelligent player and there's a bit of maturity about him now. Today's finish is what he can do, and should have been doing before, where he would have fired it over the bar or straight at the keeper.
 
I wanna say no. But he’s giving good reasons to say yes (to a new deal).

I’d want it heavily weighted in the clubs favour though.

I’d like him to stay

I’ve said since early days that there’s a player in there. It’s took all this time but at last he’s starting to show some form.

I think we are in talks with him and I think he owes the club a couple of seasons of what he can really do
 
I’d offer him a new contract.

As LondonBlade89 alludes to. The first four season were a write off as he struggled badly with injuries and when he did play his confidence looked shot and didn’t seem to be the out and out striker we thought he would be.

This season he has been more or less a reclamation project for Wilder. He’s been gradually reintroduced to the team, we’ve found a position that suits him and it’s great to see him flourishing. I’d also guess that he is on a bespoke training programme that doesn’t put his body under too much stress with a lot of specific work to strengthen his hamstrings and his minutes look to be carefully managed.

He isn’t the player I thought he would be. I thought he would be a quick, fast striker with out and out finishing ability but he is so much better in his new role, playing deeper as he has got the pace, intelligent and speed of thought to get in to the right places and he is lightening quick on the break.

Last season I’d written him off as a complete dud so it’s great to see him prove so many people wrong
 
Brewster scored the winning goal against Wednesday. Not only that. It secured our 11th double over them. As far as I am concerned that gives him an open ended free pass.

Kind of like a lesser version of the Rogers/Watkins duo at Aston Villa. I really like the idea of having a shadow striker behind your striker.
And when it doesn't work, you just bring O'Hare.
 
That goal was more reflective of his actual ability level than most of what he's shown while here. It's about time one exactly like that flew in in front of the kop, it was great to see

He's made a pleasing contribution this season and is now starting games on merit right at the business end. Very very few expected that
