Yeh , it's not over for Cannon but he's starting off closer to Brewster than Campbell.
If Wilder wanted Dunne , why on earth did we not pay the fee , if we had £10m to spare ?
I hope to goodness that this Dunne/Cannon mystery was not down to the new owners influencing things when they've yet to gain any experience of British Soccer 🤞.
It seems we suddenly reverted to the 'value' principle with Dunne, having utterly disregarded it for Cannon. Wilder says we made a 'reasonable' bid for Dunne, given he's out of contract. If we'd have been about 20% as 'unreasonable' as we were for Cannon, Dunne would probably be starting for us tomorrow instead

If you pay over the odds in January, it's because you want the player now and you want an impact now. Cannon is one of the least impactful attackers you could possibly sign. Dunne is one of the most impactful defenders you could possibly sign. Oh well

He's here because Wilder fucked up our January window by failing to prioritise what we all knew was needed - a match fit replacement for Souttar as close as possible to the latter's quality.

We had the chance later in the window , "For a Few Dollars More" , to get Jimmy Dunne , who was totally match-fit and just the kind of defensive leader we lack.

But instead Wilder , or the club , wouldn't pay perhaps £1m extra fee for him , nor for JohnJoe to come in as a fit & ready RB.

But paradoxically they did pay £10m for a totally mediocre striker.

It's the "replacement of JoC with Brewster" stupidity, all over again.

I don't actually dislike Wilder but I'm sick of his flawed thinking & decisions.
I'd call them reactions, not rational well considered decisions.
And when it comes to talking about arrogance,re squad in presser,he should know........Expert.🙄

No real impact from Holding either, and he will be costing us some money.

..... and even then, he might not have the desired impact and on top of that he is also not an asset on our books for next season and beyond
i think whichever league were in next season we will be trying to get souttar back provided he gets over this injury and think he would come back here im certain we would have been 7/8 points better off if souttar hadnt got injured add arblaster to that and we would have been miles clear at the top leeds have been very lucky with injuries

Two big injuries in recent seasons now - massive question marks about his fitness for me. Really great for us at the start of the season and seems like a smashing bloke but it feels risky as hell for a permanent transfer. At the very minimum you'd want him to bin off the Aussies

Souttar will be awkward. It seems to be the law that Leicester are entitled to get every penny back on every bad signing they make so presumably they'd expect at least 15m off us. Injuries, under performance? Doesn't matter - that's the Cannon precedent....

If we're in the PL, we may want someone quicker. That's after any injury risk consideration, which is a huge factor and would put me off spending anything big

If we're in the championship, Leicester won't be willing to sell to us even if we could afford him

Me and my lad were having one of those nonsense discussions you do pre-game today, where we were saying, 'if you could pull on the shirt and play tonight, would you? You'd get to play for the blades, but you'd be dog shit and compromise the team'

We both said yes, we'd play

So did Rob Holding. Didn't even look like a footballer. Maybe, just maybe it shows that when the coaching team watch these players in training and still pick Robbo, they know something we don't.

Can we stop pleading for him to start now?

Coming on as a centre half to a really stretched, tense game in the final quarter, with Robinson one side of him and Anel at the other? You can't be serious using that to judge him 😂

Robinson isn't fit to lace Holding's boots.

100% serious, but I don't expect you and I to agree

He couldn't control the ball. He was shocking. But I must admit my biggest disappointment of the night is I've ended up in a discussion with you. Time for bed
Oh dear, aren't you ever so edgy? 😂 Get to bed little boy

Looked a little rusty on the ball when he came on, probably expected given his lack of game time post Bristol City.

Would I drop Robbo for Holding at the moment?

No, if we drop Robbo (our Captain) for Holding and he doesn't get match sharp quick enough, that will wreck Robbo's confidence and he might not be the same player if we then drop Holding for him.

Would I still sign Holding in the summer?

If we lose Robbo then yes, I would sign him, 29 is still youngish for a defender and he would be a good replacement for Robbo as a solid backup CB.

I agree with Cappy

Ok'ish at defending but not a ball player whatsoever.

Took 2 or 3 touches to get the ball under control and passes were straight to Millwall.

I'd put him below Gilchrist on technical ability with a football... which is saying something!

Wilder loves players who are light on technical ability but are gutsy. Agree that Holding was anxiety inducing yesterday. I know quality costs, but so does acquiring lots of mediocre players who aren’t very good.

There’s quite a few players in our team who aren’t that comfortable on the ball at this level.

Holding
Robbo
Anel
Clarke
Hamza
Moore
Cannon
Diaz
Shackelton
RND
Gilchrist

I’m tempted to add burrows to the list as well as he’s very inconsistent. With some of these it’s a coaching others it’s a quality issue IMO.

Considering we spend so much time with possession across the back its odd that those players seem to be the least comfortable with the ball.
