Honest discussion about the atmosphere

Wilder should tell the players to not take over 5 minutes to return and applaud the Kop then....... especially when it's cold. I won't criticise anyone for not waiting

Edit - if he's referring to fans leaving when there are minutes still to play then I agree. But I assumed he'd be referring to after the FT whistle because it really was quite empty
I was saying the same to my mate. Never used to take that long to get round and acknowledge the crowd. Teams who won the FA Cup in the 90s used to get off the pitch quicker

I guess they just have very, very needy family members? It's a bit odd to have such enthusiasm to stare and wave at somebody you know personally, for minutes at a time, game after game, when you're probably seeing them in half an hours time anyway

Seeing how empty the stadium understandably is at this point, it's bizarre that they carry on with the ritualistic lap

Me and My dad stayed about 5 minutes after full time on Kop waiting to applaud the players.... but they stood at corner of John street whole time eventually we said sod it and left (as everyone's said it was freezing!).

Got no time for people leaving before full time but if Wilder wants people to stay behind and acknowledge players efforts players need to get a move on and not spend 10 minutes chatting with their families (who haven't paid for a ticket and can see them anytime presumably)

Was in John Street corner amongst the family/friends of players on Boxing Day and it was embarrassing and excruciating. Constantly going for a piss or food/drink, no idea about club, looking at phones and even shouting “come on Sheffield” Ffs!
They should be least priority for appreciation after game.

If people thought it was cold yesterday you obviously didn't go to cup game. THAT was cold, yesterday was much warmer you wimps
Completely agree - freezing at the cup game. I went on shoutbox during the game to report how cold I was and didn't receive one bit of sympathy or compassion. Bastards!

Better atmosphere today thanks to 1) Dodgy referee decisions 2) Actually playing pretty well and most importantly 3) No minutes for Brewster.

Long may 2) and 3) continue. Well done Blades fans!

WTF has Brewster got anything to do with it ?

Lay off the lad, or don’t comment on him at all

We don't play as well as that when he's on the pitch. Playing worse = worse atmosphere. Simple as that.
We played v.well tonight but that's no slight on Brewster.

On Saturday we looked better for Brewster coming on. He gave us the impetus to score the 2nd.

Atmosphere was better because yes we played well and 2 ref banged his head coming out of his changing room door at 7:58pm.... No wait it's just Donohue.

I thought it was better than it has been but still way off what the team deserved after that brilliant performance. Was like getting blood from a stone getting anyone to sing around us tonight.

Most annoyingly we've stopped singing Waka Waka at home. Such a fun chant! Lets take tonight as a step in the right direction and hope the performances and atmosphere can keep improving from here.

That is the most ridiculous thing I've read on here in a while and that's saying something 😂

Rhian Brewster has absolutely fuck all to do with the recent poor atmosphere at The Lane!

Very below par considering the performance. Almost as if we were shell-shocked by it. It picked up after the ref interfered and then again after 2-1. Lots of empty seats too. It's becoming increasingly common for people to just watch on TV if it's on - ST holders included based on where I am

After the previous 2 home game performances I can understand some stay away fans. Hopefully some watched on TV tonight and feel encouraged to return. I look around on The Kop though and I do find myself wondering what the average age might be? There's A LOT of people of an older age where I can't imagine them making much noise. You'd think it would be around the same at every club, but then you hear the noise Leeds make and have to think that there are more young 'uns in their ranks right?

Definitely the case that some fanbases are more energetic than others. Ours is quite low energy. Problem is, it's contagious

65. Tick. Joined in all the songs and chants. Tick. Jumped up and down like a demented squirrel after each goal. Tick. All this with a full bladder.

There are occasions when I marvel at the sheer stupidity of a post. This is one of them.

I sit in G Block on South Stand. I rarely hear the Kop sing. The only time singing seems to get going here is when H Block start singing “Sheff United, Hallelujah, Hallelujah”

My mates sit near front in Kop and often comment on the atmosphere being “great today”… not where I sit. Never heard a peep, other than the away end.

It’s just how the stadium is set up these days.

Main singing section is top left corner of Kop (shoreham view) territory.
That section probably makes up what, 5-10% of the Kop. If that’s all that sings 90% of the time it’s gonna be shite.

As an example. The minutes applause for Jonny the other night.
I saw the video on twitter his dad posted. They all sang “United love you more than you will know”, then a larger section of the Kop sang “He’s a blade”… neither song was heard where I sit.

The stadiums where you visit away and think the home fans were loud are places like Pride Park, where the singing section is bang next to the away fans.

I’m not suggesting we should move stadiums. I just think old style stadiums like ours have changed over the years.

Still this.

We should corner off the Kop and South Stand and give that corner to away fans. At least then the Kop would liven up a bit

To be honest, after a stop-start drive from Harrogate which took about two hours, as I walked into the ground I was wishing I'd followed my friend's example and stayed at home to watch it on TV.

By the end I was pleased that I'd made the effort. Arriving home at 11.45 didn't fill me with enthusiasm though - 8pm KOs don't help - but I suppose they suit some people

Genuine question for everyone that is saying the atmosphere is poor. What do you personally contribute to try and make it better?
"go on" x 23
"shooot" x 3
"get up you soft cunt" x 12
"reeeeeeeeeeefffffff" x 8
"you are absolute wank, ref" x 11
"how's that not a foul" x 7
