Brewsters New Contract?

I’m on the fence but be pissed off if he went somewhere and set the world on fire after all our effort.
Think I’m in the one more year bracket
If we forget price tag that’s now 5 years old. He’s currently playing well & better than some of the other attacking players.

I think if we’d signed Brewster this season on a one year deal most fans would want him to be given another year (solely based on this season & recent form).

In order to agree with our view you have to forget what we paid for him or you’ll never move on.

He’s maintained fitness for a relatively decent length of time, and surprise surprise has looked sharper and at the very least capable of contributing. Not worth a £23m outlay, but that’s a topic for another day.

If (a big if) he stays fit for the next couple of months and stays at this level then I’d support a new 1-2 year deal, on appropriate terms (these would look very different in Prem vs Championship).

Suspect he might fancy a change of scenery after a rotten period in his career. I’d guess he could pick up a decent wage at Mid Championship level, or maybe Saudi/States if he wants a pay day.

Despite everything that’s happened to him, he’s got a fantastic attitude. Watching the subs warm up at half time on Saturday, him and Peck were both buzzing, so much energy and enthusiasm, you could tell they couldn’t wait to get on, and what a difference it made when they did.

He’s been showing signs recently that he just might be average Championship level…especially when used as sub.

Realistically he’s no where near Premier league level
But could be a decent squad player if we stay in the Championship.

So it all depends how we finish the season.
There can’t be sentiment in football, we can’t be a charity…if we’re promoted then I don’t think there’s any chance we offer a contract.
If we fail to be promoted then it wouldn’t surprise me if we do offer a contract on much reduced terms,

Will be interesting to see if we do offer a contract then if he turns us down and goes elsewhere…..wouldn’t be a surprise if Hecky at Preston tries to tempt him.

His finishing is clearly not up to standard so I’m thinking his best position might be as attacking midfielder not a striker
but his character has really impressed me…..he’s such a team player, very likable and good to have involved in the squad.

He's managed to put together a run where he hasn't pulled up since his last bout out. He came to us with a record of 2 previous major injuries and the key question is how long will it be before he breaks down again? He's yet to complete a full 90 minutes at full steam since he came back imo. He still looks short of the pace he showed when he first came. The manager recently said he's not fit enough to start 2 games in a week. Its one for the medical teams but hopefully its not the same people who assessed him when he first signed. A thorough risk assessment on the potential for reoccurring injury has to be done before any consideration can be given to a new contract.

Its a risk/reward dilemma for the new owners. A player who will still be only 25 at the end of his contract, born on April fools day by the way :D, who could be a saleable asset if we offer new terms. Balance that against the loss the club has incurred on our record signing and the number of days and games missed. 634 days out and 99 games thats 2 full seasons out of his 5 year contract!

Add in he lost 523 days with Liverpool and 48 games over 4 years not forgetting a bad injury whilst a youngster at Chelsea and the odds on him having an injury free career going forward do not look promising.

He's a popular player no doubt but that alone doesn't warrant a new contract. The club have made a considerable loss on his value as a consequence of his injuries and it would make sense to wait until the end of the season whilst assessing how his body copes, especially his hamstrings, with the demands of playing full tilt 2 games a week.

When you put all of that together it makes whoever insisted that we had to sign him look like a complete fucking idiot.

He will get 15 k championship easy two year contract
Depends where we are
It’s kind of make you’re mind up time now though or he can walk for free

I am amazed there is even a debate about keeping him. He's contributed next to nothing in 5 years. He has done 'ok' recently but that's it. One to 100% move on in a few months. I'd do the same with Jack Robinson (another out of contract) personally.

Neither Robinson or Brewster are top end Champ players let alone Prem so if we are serious about progressing then any new deals for these lads would be poor decisions.

Thank you! This thread was making me think I'd woken up in a parallel universe.

Brewster's time at the club has been long periods of crushing lows punctuated infrequently with brief spells of looking like he might potentially be an average championship player. From a footballing standpoint, it will be a bit of a relief to finally end the Brewster saga and get someone better in.

I'm sure Brewster and his agent, whoever he is, will have already had discussions about where his future lies.
His agent definitely got him a good deal to come to us.
There's now the possibility of four other strikers being ahead of him in the pecking order. This will have some impact on how much of a good deal the agent can get for him if he stays with us.
It will also depend on what Brewster himself will want. Will he want to stay on a much reduced wage structure? Or will he decide to leave if someone else comes in with a much better offer?
If course a lot will depend on how much Wilder will want him to remain too. Will he think ,well he's not produced the form I hoped he would. He s currently looking like he MIGHT finally come good, but is it going to be worth yet another huge gamble for me?
Too many imponderables.
Wait and see.

I personally don't think he's worth the risk any more. He's been here five years and it's only been the last few games where he had shown any hint of ability.
The most I'd offer would be twelve months on a much reduced income with an offer to renegotiate depending on performance.
But I doubt if his agent would allow him to go for such an offer.

I agree with the Robinson statement, but Wilder will keep him a bit longer as he’s a ‘Wilder type’ and not necessarily a good footballer.

I do like Robbo, but his skill set is quite limited.

Brewster New Contract (if offered one) should be something like this

Basic £8k a week

The rest performance related including goals scored

Put £20m price tag on him so he either knuckles down and plays like he has in recent weeks or gets just 8k

£8k a week? he may have had a shit time with injuries but I reckon he will at least get 15k to 20k a week with someone else in the Championship.
I doubt that if based on past performances and as you say injury prone

Where’s this £8k plucked from? How does that compare to others in the squad?

Presume the goals scored performance related means he’ll have to play up front rather than on the wing, in midfield or generally where he’s asked to play? Will it be reliant on starting games or just from the bench?
Performance related doesn’t have to mean goal
