A splattered Bush ?If the stories are to be believed she ended the night looking like a painter's radio.
A splattered Bush ?
well said high peak, what do some of our fans expect indeed ? we are a league 1 club and we aint going to attract top quality players, paynter is proven at this level, porter is proven at championship level fact ! give me paynter any day and for gods sake give the guy a chance...... seem to remember the shipperley signing,he too was coming to the end of his career a journeyman, but he was always in the right place to grab those important goalsSome of the negativity amongst Blades fans takes the piss I mean seriously what so you lot expect?
Give the lad a chance, he was a huge part of a promotion winning team from this league that we are in. He has bags of experience at this level and at the level above and he has far more pros going for him than cons.
A few wins and people start thinking big signings, play-offs and promotion etc, we all want that more that anything but we have to be realistic and look at the bigger picture which sees us still flirting with the relegation zone in League One which won't attract that many championship bench warmers, even they would rather be at the likes of Orient, Brentford and Wolves who all have a much better chance of achieving something than us this year.
Look at the job at hand, lookt the qualities needed to do this job and Paynter fits the bill and is more than adequate at this level. He's won promotion out of this league, he's banged in goals in this league and he has the experience of how to play football effectively in this league.
Come on peoples give the lad a chance! As soon as he knocks in a couple of goals for us you will deny knocking him in the first place anyway!

Someone should be able to work some appropriate new lyrics in.

We need to be looking at better signings than Billy Paynter. Game changing investment my arse - Donny will be paying some of his wages. If we really have the money players don't give a flying one where we are in the League as they in it for what they can make. Time some you of woke up and smelt the coffee there isn't any game changing investment. How do I know because St Kev said there is!well said high peak, what do some of our fans expect indeed ? we are a league 1 club and we aint going to attract top quality players, paynter is proven at this level, porter is proven at championship level fact ! give me paynter any day and for gods sake give the guy a chance...... seem to remember the shipperley signing,he too was coming to the end of his career a journeyman, but he was always in the right place to grab those important goals
I don't see him getting into the starting XI straight away.
He's only started once for Doncaster this season, so he can hardly be match-fit.
I think he might genuinely be cover for Porter rather than the other way around.
He gives Clough the option of taking Porter off after an hour to give him a rest, without changing the system too much.
I asked my Rovers' supporting pal for his assessment. Here it is:
When Billy Paynter came to us from Leeds, he was known as "barn door Billy" by the Leeds fans, suggesting that he could not hit a barn door. He had some good games for us and made the pass from the missed penalty at Brentford that enabled Coppinger to score and win us promotion. I think he is best played in the box he causes all sorts of problems,he is a tough guy and takes no prisoners, I liked him but I would say League 1 is his limit
This year he came on as a late sub against Leeds to cries of "Paynter you fat b........st..d" from the Leeds yobs, his first touch was a superb headed goal which shut them up. I think he could get you a goal or two
Go on then, give us the benefit of your knowledge on this subject.Longtime Blade, that sounds like a fair assessment of BP. As I wrote in a previous mail, we're where we are and deserve to be, and if we bring in players midway through the system that improve our goal threat that's got to be seen as a plus. Some posters on here have a blinkered, dare I say, uninformed view of footballing finances, how deals are structured, and what sort of player we'll attract at the moment. If we were in the Championship we might be looking at a Wells, a Wickham, or someone else who's a cut above what we currently have, so don't get carried away with fevered imaginations, there's a long way to go and we'll all have a better idea of the club's intentions in about 18 months or so.
factoid , Paynter played in all 46 games , last season in division one scoring 13 goals
so was 1/11th of a promotion side, thats what we need and 10 more besides

It is no part of the plan to spend big in January. It never was. The club has made that crystal clear and our excellent manager [who wouldn't have joined us if he hadn't been convinced of ambition and resources] wants it that way. There will be sensible and gradual investment, appropriate to where we are at the time.
Not easy finding a 25 goal scoring machine, we certainly have to flash out the cash but in this leauge it won't be easy to attract the goal scoring names, personally thought we could have realistically gone for Wells but he is off to hudders nowIf he'd got 25 would make me feel different
So if it never was the plan to spend big in January then i hope the "prince" realises we could be a division 4 club by May.HRH would not have got involved had he not intended to make a difference. Your proposition is founded, understandably I suppose, on the usual cynicism but, on this occasion, makes no sense.
The Prince has already funded the Baxter and Cuvelier signings. He has committed substantial time and executive resources in the shape of Jim Phipps. We are not dealing with Samantha Hashimi here. He is the nephew of the King of Saudi Arabia and has far better things to do with his time than be part of some crazy sham involvement in a Third Division club,

Let's revisit this in eighteen months.

Paynter not being the most ideal player might do a job for us this season but he's not a player I want to be leading the lines next season. Well he has from know to the end of the season to prove his worth and change some of our minds.
So if it never was the plan to spend big in January then i hope the "prince" realises we could be a division 4 club by May.
Not if we get the loans right
With our spectacular history in the loan market, how could we not?
