Listen he might not be the bigger, better name that some wanted but he is more than effective at this level and will do a job for us until the end of the season no doubts what so ever and he is technically the righttype of player to fit what we already have.

He was pivotal in Donny's promotion and this video shows some of the stuff he did for them last year in this league, he's more than good enough and in all fairness a very decent signing giving us great options.

Goals win games.

If he can do that then its all good.

Good option for rest of season, clearly not a championship player, but has proven he can score regular goals in the 3rd tier.
Not the signing i was expecting mind.

My only worry is his lack of game time this season. I would have preferred Stead personally but I am not going to lose sleep about it as I am not sure who we can attract, being near the bottom of div3

abit underwhelmes about this one but we are probably not blessed with options in the market.

I expect the serious business to start at the end of the season.

Brian Deane?

An unknown quantity at the start of his career who turned out to be a gem as opposed to a player coming to the end of his career who's pretty much proven to be a just above average league one striker.

I really hope he proves me wrong, and finds that potential he showed early in his career, but its just not a signing that gets my pulse racing.

but having said all that were not really in a position to be gambling so a steady eddy to bag us a few, and keep us up is probably what we need right now

Some of the negativity amongst Blades fans takes the piss I mean seriously what so you lot expect?

Give the lad a chance, he was a huge part of a promotion winning team from this league that we are in. He has bags of experience at this level and at the level above and he has far more pros going for him than cons.

A few wins and people start thinking big signings, play-offs and promotion etc, we all want that more that anything but we have to be realistic and look at the bigger picture which sees us still flirting with the relegation zone in League One which won't attract that many championship bench warmers, even they would rather be at the likes of Orient, Brentford and Wolves who all have a much better chance of achieving something than us this year.

Look at the job at hand, lookt the qualities needed to do this job and Paynter fits the bill and is more than adequate at this level. He's won promotion out of this league, he's banged in goals in this league and he has the experience of how to play football effectively in this league.

Come on peoples give the lad a chance! As soon as he knocks in a couple of goals for us you will deny knocking him in the first place anyway!

Agree, the wheel came off a bit against Walsall and confirmed we are still in a relegation battle to stay out of the basement division. I did think that one or two names being mentioned were a bit unrealistic at this point in the season, but if we stay up, come the new season who knows ?. Not overly excited by Paynter but I'm sure he will do a decent job, certainly looks a better finisher than Porter.

If he scores tommorow, then he`ll be the new messiah.
Who on earth can people expect to get in the jtw??
A striking addition to bolster the options is what we needed.
Who did you want us to get then who was available and in our budget and proven to score regurlary at league 1 level?Sharp?not a prayer-wilson?-injured,holt?-Pah!,clarke?-only fit striker coventry have got,donaldson?-no chance,he`s playing in a team that look like they will go up either champs or runners up.
Stead?didnt want to come obviously.
Still,i like the fact that Billy is his first name i suppose.

This year is all about staying up and then pushing on next season. The close season is when the proper signings will hopefully start.

Chris Porter is wank!
Chris Porter is wannnnk!
We've got Billy Paynter

Beggars belief doesn't it? Some of our supporters expect us to go and spend 2-3m on a 20 goal a season Championship striker like they wouldn't have any better offers than a bottom half League One side!

This is a good signing. Paynter has a proven record in League One and we need someone that can score goals. What's not to like?

Someone should be able to work some appropriate new lyrics in.

UTB

On the positive side he is likely to be better than Porter or King.

The worry here is it looks like we are still unable to attact real quality signings, this I hope is down to our League position rather than finances as some think. A clue will be if we sell Harry, if we do then the Prince sceptics may have a point.

Pigs are jealous they were hoping to sign a painter for the theatre of rust could do with a lick of paint or two!

Incidentally, I know a young lass who went out in Doncaster not long back and got latched onto by a couple of football players.

If the stories are to be believed she ended the night looking like a painter's radio.
