All I’m saying, is that we got £10 million for this. It’s about the going rate.

And that had a superior physical profile than Cannon, younger, has more pace, strength and I’d argue would be on around the same goal return as Cannon if played this season.

Theres a reason Osula went to Newcastle, there’s a reason Leicester are happy to sell Cannon (when they’re likely to be in this league next year, with a 37/38 year old Vardy as their only striker).

For those complaining about his goals and stats, Stoke have scored the joint least amount of goals this season - 24. they have created an XG of 30 goals. They have on average 3.7 shots on target per game. They have had 518 touches in the opponents box this season, ranked 17th, which equates to 19.9 per game.

We have scored 36 goals this season off an XG of 32.2 with 4.1 shots on target per game (also a 4% higher shot conversion rate than stoke). We have also had 663 touches in the opponents box, which is 25.5 per game (ranked 4th)

Cannon has had to work with lesser quality players and managed to score 9 goals, (non pen xg is 5.6) with only 3 being pens - so he is over performing and scored more than any of our players have done this season (excluding pens as well!)

This is a good signing as we currently only have Campbell whos is of the correct age on a good contract. Moore is aging and bought as a tool to get promoted, Brewster is doggers & One is young and needs developing. It is a progressive signing, with the coaching he will have he will develop into a better player. We dont have the scouting network set up to shop abroad (as much as it frustrates me due to the easily accessible information on foreign leagues, players & stats) or the pull factor being in the championship. He is a pure finisher, and players around him like hamer, ohare, brooks, JRS will create chances for him to thrive.

Superior physically, yes definitely. I’d argue that he wouldn’t be close to 9 goals if he’d stayed here this season though. From what I saw, he has the physical attributes for it, but still very, very raw.

Cannon on the other hand seems very comfortable at this level. I don’t think it’s unrealistic to have the view that should he continue to develop, he won’t become a premier league level striker soon.

If rumours are to be believed, Leicester are flying very close to busting PSR and they’re wanting to move players out where they can - hence cashing in on Cannon (and potentially moving Choudhury out to us too).

Leicester must be licking their lips, why’s it always us that get into a bidding war? Do rival clubs despise that sight of us signing a decent player?
Funny that's your view. Up until today we've had lot of people asking why we aren't getting deals over the line by spaffing the money.

The highlighted parts are my response.

I can show you a player who's had nearly 2/3rds of our touches in an opponents box, single-handedly.

"lesser quality players" is a bit of a stretch, and sounds like an excuse as to why a striker isn't/hasn't scored as many goals as they'd hoped. His role.. is to score, whether creating himself (which he doesn't do), or stretching teams (which he also doesn't do) thus enabling a ball in from the wide area.

He scores, finishes.. however you want to put it.. and does absolutely nothing else, doesn't stretch teams. Doesn't have the pace to play that counter role, doesn't have strength to play a "target man" role, doesn't have the nous to operate up top on his own.

Is that a player worth 13M?

We're sheffield united.. not Man City.. We can't afford to spend 13M on a single player with a view to them becoming a more "developed player".

EDIT: I forgot to mention too. You're mentioning XG etc. They're slightly misguiding - he's scored 4 penalties.. and four goals in a single game. so one other goal from those. Not that great when it's explained that way.

I think he would. This pre-season looked to be his "breakout" season.. he were finishing most chances, showed power and pace.. and this is ultimately why Newcastle offered a very big fee for him.

PSR has been shown to be a joke - it's already been announced that no teams will be punished this season through PSR reasonings.

Stoke have created more big chances than we have this season. I think people expecting Cannon will be getting significantly more chances here might be surprised.

I don't understand the love in for this guy, looks an OK player that's all.
£13 million with several clubs supposedly fighting over him seems miles over the odds.
It's not love, it's just the realisation that we're desperate for a competent striker who doesn't get injured. He's all there is out there

Assume deadline for a new player to pull a shirt on at Norwich is Friday at noon. How are media team going to get sorted with announcement?

Is it just me reading far too much into a shite social post from SUFC, or is that photography Oli with a 'Cannon' camera???????
Shit you're right, quick get a rumour thread opened for Fujitsu

Too many interested parties for this to be resolved that quickly.
I think it'll rumble on.
Do you believe all those rumours of interested parties? Odd that they haven't been linked previously, but suddenly are when it's getting serious don't you think?

Fees must be agreed with Leicester for them to recall him. Also, don’t clubs generally have some discussions with players prior to agreeing a fee?

Friday could be possible 🤷‍♂️

Well for what it's worth Nixon has now said that neither Everton or Burnley are interested, so it would just leave us and Sunderland, unless I missed someone?

Think you can forget that mate, and it's probably going to be more or less the same team Saturday as the one at Watford,

Just get the picture of him being introduced at Stoke, in August, with their shirt a bit blurry. Should do the trick

Trust me Cannon will do minutes as a sub ont Satdi ;). It used to be tomorrow but now its day after tomorrow 🤣

The stat i dont have to hand is xT, expected threat of the chances which have been created - which would create more of a talking point.

In regards to the lesser quality players, its correct though - they do have less quality with their players, hence where they are in the league. we are where we are due to big moments from players creating things out of nothing for each other. (if anything an argument would be that they would be much lower down the league if it wasnt for their keeper who has prevented 9 goals xg wise this season, so the quality of their other 9 players is massively questioned here)

i was using the championships goals, but take your point - however ill play devils advocate - Leon Clarke scored 19 in 39 games for us, he also scored 12 in 37 games (Fulham and Hull removed) and we were all extremely impressed with him that season....

In regards to the money, the journos are always miles off - as per what wilder, hecky previously, has said in their pressers. It all comes out in the finances at the end of the year and promotion bonuses will distort things. We live in a time where strikers cost money (Rhodes £10M?!?!) Look at Boro, selling Latte Lath for £18 million to the MLS, lad hadnt scored a goal all season prior to the one he scored vs us. Lath is a 1 in 4 striker, currently 4 years older than than Cannon, whos running at 1 in 3. Strikers are expensive and god knows how we managed to sign one on a free whos already scored 6 for us this season - so 13M (all in) for a player who could quite realistically fire us to promotion is sensible business for top of the league.

as someone has previously stated, we could have signed Ashley Barnes....I understand the skepticism of this transfer, especially with the money quoted however we arent a spending club, this isnt the norm for us to be doing this, its against our nature, so of cause there will be concern. Personally, i couldnt name a better option for someone who is tried and tested in the championship (i would sign other players to play alongside though such as RJJ, BBD, Barry etc)

To be fair, there's a fair bit of 'ammunition' to go at in the puns stakes with this potential signing. Take your pick!

Some of the 'knob' and 'bore' gags will, naturally, be a bit tedious but kudos to anyone who can genuinely get a ''Muzzle Mouldings' of an 'Astragel' pun into the conversation as far as I'm concerned.

Fill yer' boots!

Judging his sides at Fulham and just scraping over the line....

A lot.
If I remember rightly, in his season getting Bournemouth promoted from the Championship he spent a shed load in January.

They spent a lot... and also brought in 10+ players. Yep.

It’s well known that most of Nixon’s sources are agents in and around the North West and North East so I’d tend to believe him on this one.
