Last season Trnamere were top of the league for half of it. That's how shite it was.

This season, taking out the Notts County game we have not won a game where the opposition has equalised.

With a username like yours, BTL you've clearly not grasped the connection between United and vital games.:)
Ive also seen us promoted a fair few times when weve won games we shouldnt , lets not forget 1991 , our first season back in the top league when we only won our first game v foresrt mid december and were rooted at the bottom at xmas , and finished 10th, or lately when we were in relegation trouble and appointed Blackwell as late as february and finished 8th and nearly made it

How about Colchester coming from 2-0 down to 2-2 and Porter grabbing the winner? Or doesn't the FA Cup count?

Clough wouldn't need to give them much of a dressing down. The group of lads in front of me who must have watched about 5 mins of the game between them did a fantastic job of abusing them every time Walsall had a corner second half.

Most of it completely uncalled for.

To be fair, the players haven't been fit to wear the shirt for the vast majority of this season. I think the fans have been remarkably patient all things considered.

That doesn't mean that they should be blindly abused. Told they should break their legs, to hand in a transfer request and be aggressively called a "fucking useless, spineless spastic" for scoring a goal.

I am amazed so many fans spend so much money and go to such lengths to travel all over the country to watch us and spout such vitriol.

Actually take away the last three words and the above still rings true.

Joking apart, the fact over a 1,000 went today is eye popping to watch a team that for what seems like so many seasons is in many ways either simply not good enough or just get outworked most weeks (maybe a combination of both). Fair play to those who keep travelling and supporting the team. I think even if I had bucket loads of money and did not have a family which make it hard to go away aswell as home so much; I still would find it hard to go week, in week out to watch for the most part utter shite.

Despite the above comments and the sort of criticism that often is just personal and pathetic which tends to often be from a certain group of fans who cannot offer criticism in any other way, I tend to agree most of the side have had an easy ride for the past few seasons as manager after manager keeps departing and they all hang around like maggots on a rotting carcass.

Hard to keep defending the same players time after time. That is why a mass clear out cannot come soon enough (know there are fair play restrictions and we may have to wait till summer to get rid of some).

90 91 yes Forest was first win. But finished 13th. The four seasons up there with DB were 13, 9, 14 and 20 as finish positions.

I'm not going to "like" this post as the contents are too upsetting for me.

I do however acknowledge the accuracy of what it feels like to support this club.

I guess we are both just too young to have witnessed losing to Leicester in a replayed FA cup semi final in 1961.

Fifty years of witnessing mostly misery and counting.

why not go up ,
wednesday went up via the play offs in 2005 beating brentford and hartlepool , one had lost 17 one had lost 18 , weve lost 11 we could lose 5 /6 more and its feesable , and weve played all the top half clubs away , walsall 7th being the last

Its only feasible if we start winning!

More concerning to me is the fact that most seem to believe that , after survival this season, promotion next year is a formality.

I've not seen one comment which has stated that promotion next year is a formality. But then again, I've seen very few posts that have suggested we can still make the play offs since Clough has taken charge.

But I think we can be more optimistic for next season. Despite yesterday, the fact is that Clough has taken what is being widely labelled the worst squad in SUFC history and taken us from dead last to out of the bottom four. Still a bit too close for comfort, but signs are there that we will pull away. As an indicator, if the season had started on 26th October, which was NC's first game, we'd be 9th.

I wrote off the play-offs a while back but you can put a decent run together in this league.

Like I have said a few times I thought Tranmere would have been the ones to go up this time last year when they were 10 points clear of us. They finished well below us and didn't make the play offs.

Anything literally can happen in this league as we know already.

Anybody who has watched United since 1961 and who has managed and played amateur football to a reasonable standard ( and even those who haven't) can tell you this squad is not good enough. The manager will instil discipline and order and we will benefit from his knowledge and experience. However, please please accept that Collins and Doyle were not good enough for the division above, as they proved in the relegation season, our keeper is too young, we haven't had any worthwhile fullbacks since we sold the Kyles and Lowton, Harry is too slow and error prone and for all the rosy academy viewers will not make the transition. Murphy and Flynn have shown promise but not made it unless against lower teams etc etc etc. we've had to sign shite cos we can't afford anything better. I could go on and on but you get the drift. We will survive but just compare our squad with Wolves or even Rotherham. God, what would I give for a Pringle in our team.

Glad you did that statistic. I was thinking, realistically this squad is around about the 10th best in the league. So being 9th is about right and I'd expect the rest of the season to continue on a similar vein. Clough's first 11 games have yielded 16 points. We have 22 games left which when extrapolated would be 32 points to put us finishing on 57. Last season 57 points would have us finishing in 15th place.

Major surgery needed in the summer to turn us into a promotion chasing side though.

had there been no stupid play off though wed have had 3 automatic promotions and at least 3 more prem seasons
I think you take the positives out of reaching fa cup / league semi finals as a 2nd division club all the bottom 3 of your list, rather than saying its a negative

look at piggies they are supposed to be massive yet they are still to make a championship play off , never mind a final , we just put our selves down too easy and believe the pig propaganda too easily, what youve posted is lifted direct from owlstalk its how they portray us , to cover up the fact they cant get in the championship top six
weve hit over 80 points 7 times recently over 90 twice , thats not too shabby

It's all 'ifs and buts', though. If Ched hadn't got sent down, if Connor Wickham wasn't single-handedly saving Wednesday from relegatin etc.

Only in their own minds are Wednesday 'massive'. We bemoan losing the Kyles, Lowton, Jags, even Currie, Sabella, Jones, Woodward etc. but when was the last time they brought on a talent all by themselves?

And it wasn't 'lifted direct from Owlstalk'. Most of those games are seared into my mind and I dug out the programmes to make sure the years were correct.

Let's just hope it's not promotion from League 2.
not a chance , NO WEIR NO DANGER we are only down there due to starting 12 games under the clueless one, Cloughs shown he can get results out of what we had , Weir couldnt end of
is the current squad streong enough , no its just short of making the play offs , but with some astute signings it could do , and theres half a season left

There is no such thing as being to good to go down.

Like the vast majority I am confident we will find a mid table position by the end of the season. However, a few wins back to back and expectations rise.

A win on Saturday wouldn't half be a boost. To be honest a draw would seem like a win, given our parlous state.

well go on last 8, not a kmee jerk reaction to one result

http://stats.football365.co.uk/dom/ENG/D2/oform.html

Well under Clough's tenure we have won 4 league games ie just over a third. How do you suggest mathematically unless there is some catastrophic collapse by about the top ten teams in this league United are going to get promoted winning just over a third of its games?

To get to 75 points would need a yield of over 2.25 pts/game here on in to achieve that.

I think perhaps you should think again. If there is any kneejerk going on it ain't from me.:)

All I'm gonna say is if we keep up with the current form clough produced then we will finish on around 65 points at the end of the season. that will see us out of the relegation battle and heading towards the playoffs. You have to be optimistic sometimes however let's not get ahead of ourselves. Utb
