and we sit 2nd on GD (- 2 pts deduction). If we don’t play anybody in the next 23 games, we go up champions.

Did this come out of your Christmas Cracker on 25th as a joke ? :)
No, it’s a reflection of the narrative that we are in a false position because we haven’t played ‘anybody’ yet. Well, we have now played all 23. If we achieve the same points total for the next 23, we go up, Champions.

Why hasn't your horse got a name?

I get what you’re saying but when we do play anyone decent we look a level below despite the final result, I think that’s what worries most. I’d be delighted to carry on as we are and gain promotion but it’s not a great way to go up, ideally you want to be going up looking a class above the league your leaving behind, with a good style of play and a good attacking threat that you can then add to with some more quality we have none of those things.

It’s worrying that we’ve played Leeds Boro and now Burnley and lost them all and there’s potential to lose the next 2.
We’ve not played well for a while and just grinded results out.

Looking at our points gained against the other sides who have had lengthy spells in the top 6 this season (not counting us, I've picked 7 teams in total), this is what our record against them looks like as we prepare to face them again.

The top 8 mini league (which will start to pull away around March): Blades, Leeds, Burnley, Sunderland, Watford, Blackburn, Middlesbrough, WBA

Leeds 0 pts, Burnley 0 pts, Sunderland 3 pts, Blackburn 3 pts, Watford 3 pts, Middlesbrough 0 pts, WBA 1 pt = 10 pts from a possible 21.

Its not the best record but I don't think it's too bad.

You could add a few more teams into this mini league but I personally wouldn't add anyone else to it, as these are the only teams who have been in the top 6 for sustained periods during the season, whereas the likes of Millwall and Norwich haven't been in the top 6 for anywhere near as long as anyone else.
