Zero chance of getting McBurnie back imho but we'd be mad not to if the chance is there.

This was my thought last night.

I know Wilder has been clear about wanting to move away from the previous system but sometimes needs must.

Not sure how far away Seriki is but Gilchrist Anel Robbo with Burrows and Seriki seems a decent option to me. Just how it impacts on the players further forward.
yes think seriki and burrows would be excellent wing backs plus anels best position is in the middle of a 3 imo souza hamer/morton as the 2 moore/campbell cf bbd on left and maybe new rw making the front 3 still think we need 4 in though

Is Maik Nawrocki worth a look from Celtic? Cost them over £4m, 6.1ft centre back but doesn't get a look in up there. I know that's not a ringing endorsement but maybe he's better than his current position at Celtic?

We really are threadbare now. God knows what the starting eleven is now. I'm guessing:

Cooper

Gilchist - Anel - Robbo - Burrows

Peck - Davies

Brookes - O'Hare - Hamer

Moore

So we are missing 6 major players that nearly all would be starting right now:

Seriki
JRS
Souttar
Souza
Arblaster
Campbell

CW has his work cut out in this upcoming window 😳 BBD would be an obvious option, but who else is realistically an option?

Massive window. Really interesting time for the new owners to make a mark. Crucial if they want the PL riches.

Recruit well and sets us up for push at automatics.

Fail to do so, and injuries and lack of depth could well catch up with us and playoffs is our best hope.

With everyone fit we are a couple light but good enough to get promoted with current injuries and fitness issues probably need 4 or 5 minimum.

Gilchrist and Seriki aren’t good enough as pair
Souttar is out for a while (Robbo not good enough to start)
Arblaster is out for a while (Peck not good enough to start)
Lack of wingers

4 minimum. Let’s see what happens.

Don't forget our spending is limited by FFP P&S rules , no matter how deep their pockets ,
Unless they are so sure of promotion they want to risk breaching the EFL rules.
Is it? What’s our current position against those rules given we weren’t here last season, and we pretty much balanced the books in the summer?
I personally would have thought there’s at least another season before those concerns really kick in, and by then if we’re still here there’ll be plenty of players off to balance the books. It’ll just be the remaining squad that’s fucked.

We'll be in a better position to guess when the 2024 accounts come out , probably next month.

I didn't say we're "up against it" , just that there is a limit on losses , no matter how deep the owners' pockets.
Well yeah, but they aren’t likely to have the means to throw £40-50m at it and blow FFP
However it’s also quite likely that most people’s targets could be purchased within the scope they have in FFP for half that amount.
I just don’t see FFP being the limiting factor on our ambitions rather than our owners pockets.

Fair enough , I hope you're right 🙂

Thoughts?

Do we either A, get a RCB and leave Gilchrist at RB, which might not be his strongest position.

Or B, move Gilchrist to RCB (and hope it works) and get a new RB in, given that we seemed to be linked with James Bree before Christmas.

I personally prefer moving Gilchrist to RCB and getting a more attack minded RB.

Ideally we'd get a RB and RCB with Gilchrist on the bench to cover both spots but I don't think that'll happen.

yes agree think gilchrist goes back to cb or competing for the spot im pretty sure we will bring either a rb or rwb in

Surely the board and management working on long list of possible additions. Not like they haven't seen our lack in depth and pace. If ever there was a time to invest in a go at promotion its now with new owners wanting to put out a statement too. One problem could be other clubs raising prices as they'll know we are in demand for players. Football still is very much business. Think we've done well to get to 50 pts with lots of players missing at different times.

On the flip side, there will be a large number of clubs struggling financially needing to balance their books so there will be bargains to be had

Lets hope they'll get what we need. Can see us having a strong window with potential starters arriving. Really have faith in what we're doing. Roumered players mostly quality.

Some very eager talk in here. If we do half of what is wanted by some in here our owners would be absolutely minted.

I think we’ll sign between 2 and 4 players with one (whether it a be a 4 or 5 mil perm or BBD/ McBurnie on loan) marquee signing to get fans on side and a couple cheap loans or transfers. I’d warn to not expect much. The owners have barely got in the door, they’ll likely want to asses the club fully before having a huge window.

I reckon all of BBD, Morton and one of Barry or McBurnie get completed, IMO.

Then, you're looking a now essential CB signing too.

I've seen plenty of McBurnie over the years and I'm still on the fence....with a slight leaning towards him being a poor player.

It's as though McBurnie needs to be psyched up and really up for a game to play well.
We've seen him in the PL look the part causing PL level centre backs problems.
Sometimes he's come on as a sub and totally changed the game in our favour.

However we've also seen him, even at Championship level look technically really limited.
It doesn't help that he has a terrible running style, grimacing and limping like he's in pain when running, reminds me of Steve Claridge.
When McBurnie isn't psyched up and doesn't give 100% effort, even by Championship standards he looks so ordinary.

So basically if we brought McBurnle back I'd be happy because I'd be hoping we see the best of McBurnie.
However if we don't bring in McBurnie than I'd also be happy because I realise that he can be a liability even at the lower Championship level.
Also probably more signicinantly McBurnie was always picking up niggley injuries last season and we need players fit enough to play.

I could be wrong, but I'd have thought with the time taken to complete the deal they would have had plenty of time to assess things. Obviously they will have not spent that time inside the club, but I would be surprised if there are too many surprises waiting for them now.

I do hope that the old cliche of speculate to accumulate is at the forefront of their minds, because although they have just shelled out for the club itself, they must understand that a further and relatively small outlay presents a fantastic opportunity to massively increase the value of their asset.

We need players who can start almost straight away. BBD, McBurnie, not got many mins in this season. Now big Arry gone, a dominant CH needed as soon as possible.

If we can sign Mcburnie, BBD, a decent half and centre mid and I think we could win the league let alone promotion. But we've no idea who we'll get in centre mid and centre defence of whether we'll even get anyone.

I'm confident in BBD because of past connections and surely if we are after Oli MC then he'd choose to come here over anywhere else.
