Got me thinking of all the old football games from the Amiga or the Spectrum.

FA Cup Football
Brian Clough Football Manager (half board game half computer game!)
Match day 2
Emlyn Hughes International Soccer
Kick Off 2
World Cup Carnival
Vinnie Jones Grab Your Balls Football
Sensible Soccer
World Cup Football
Football Manager
Football Director
Tracksuit Manger
Peter Shilton Handball Maradona
Multi Player Soccer Manager

I'm done, I guess I've missed loads more

Premier Manager 1,2 3

Apart from the replays on the scoreboard that looked the same after every goal.

I was specifically thinking about Man Utd Europe which was released on the mega drive as European club soccer.

And again, common to games of that era, there existed the guaranteed scoring method.

Run with a player right down to the goal line, and cross the ball in. There wasn't an animation for the goalkeeper to jump an collect a cross at that angle, so he would dive at the post every time while the ball sailed over to the back post to you waiting striker.

The first FIFA game you could just hang around the goalkeeper with the ball in his hands, he would kick it against the strikers back, and you'd have an easy tap in.

Microprose Soccer and Emlyn Hughes on the C64 were king before Sensi came along. Kick Off couldn't hold a candle to SWOS, and I had both. The Amiga days was Premier Manager, Ultimate Soccer Manager and SWOS. They were they Holy Trinity.

Blows my mind how anybody can say Sensible was better than Kick Off 2!

USM was a reyt game. I loved it where you had to build the stadium and the club shop as well

Yeah you could bribe, and even set the price of the pies :D

It was great, i'd totally forgot about all the micromanagement you could do. I think i preferred that to the team management. Why haven't they made a Club CEO theme park style game?

I spent more on the ground than I did on the team. Couldn't wait to fill the corners in and have a wraparound 😂

Premier Manager 2 was my most played Sim. Had a squad full of 'The Ultimates'. And SWOS was my most played where you actually control the players. I reached the 18 season limit with every career.

Premier Manager 2, and then Premier Manager 1999 was my games of choice. I spent hours on them.

The one day I decided to buy myself a laptop and disappeared off down the Champ Manager/Football Manager rabbit hole where I remain to this day.

I'm in the middle of a Football Manager save. Custom database, took Sheffield FC from tier 10 to the Prem. Wayne Rooney got sacked from us after being bottom of the Prem, so I applied. 5 seasons at United now. Kept them up and won the league. Jurgen Klopp is my Chief scout!

Snap. I’m on the Custom data base and in the process of taking Worsborough Bridge from Teir 10 to the Prem. Currently in the Northern Premier East division and won the FA Vase and got promoted last season.

One of the PM games on the Amiga had a "feature" that if, on the rollover of the season, a player was injured, whichever "stat" (Attack, Midfield, Defence, GK???) was marked as what the player should be training on was immediately uplifted to 99.

I've been playing SWOS all my life it's an amazing game.

There is a team that still updates it, and it's quite frankly brilliant. There are online modes now and you can customise it to your hearts content. There is even Bramall Lane stadium to play in.

You can download it from here

Anyway I just wanted to share the current squads ratings to see what you think! I didn't have anything to do with them but I thought it might make a mildly interesting post for a Tuesday morning.

Spent too time playing Sensi as I called it as a kid. My son loves FIFA but I can't get on with it like the old games!

Thanks Vintage Shirt for sharing. I'll download and may even get a joystick to play on the PC!

Anyone remember the slightly weird 3d chairman on the pc version of SWOS? His feedback is still relevant to me 30 years later 😄
