I’ve got a couple of mates who are toffees and they have both said he’s the best signing they have made in years. He’s made a massive impact. A real shame we couldn’t keep hold of him. If we had beat Forest in the play-offs reckon we would have signed Gibbs-White and with Ndiaye and Berge having an extra year on their contracts we wouldn’t have needed to sell them. Those 3 in the middle of the park would have given us a real chance of building something long term.

We still needed the money then so signed MGW would still have been out of our reach I think.

He would have been behind brewster mcburnie and Sharp still and probably got spanked most weeks ending up being sold still.

It was clear to a blind man that Ndiaye was going to be some player after just first few games. Wasnt his first game against Peterborough where he scored 2? He was ahead of Mcburnie and Brewster from then on. He would have been given a long term contract after that first season and with us a prem club he likely would have signed it. No chance was he getting sold if that had happened.

MGW - was always going to move on but don’t expect a warm reception signing for that mob after that semi-final. That’s football, that’s life.

Ndiaye - mucked us about all summer long with his contract which ended up hurting us quite badly. Then dancing around at the airport with the Marseille fans while still our player. Always going to be an element of schadenfreude when his “dream” turned into a big shit sandwich. I loved him as a player though.

Berge - no ill feeling. Like the other two we were always a stepping stone but he was open about not signing another contract and it was the club’s decision to get shut. Always liked him, even if he was a frustrating footballer to watch at times. Some were giving him abuse at Burnley which I didn’t get.

To be honest our fans reactions to the above players are not really much different to fans of any other clubs in similar situations.

Figo, Van Persie, Sol Campbell…..just how it is in football
Figo from Barca to Real and Campbell from Spurs to Arsenal ... are any of them really comparable? Van Persie maybe a little alike Berge moving to a rival (albeit for survival not the title) but come on

Think we would have gone back down just like last season and would have been sold.

My early memory of him was that he was abit lightweight and still abit off but he picked it up very quickly.

No chance we’d have paid £40 million for Gibbs White

If anyone seriously thinks we could have held on to him they are crazy. However good he is, in the team last year wouldn't have made a blind bit of difference to the outcome.

Glttl, it didn't work for him at marseille. I'm looking forward to seeing him doing well for Everton.

That song is shit compared to ours for him though!

So you don't think having the best player we have had since the 70's in the team instead of Cameron Archer would have made a blind bit of difference

Looks like it has made a blind bit of difference to Everton

All due respect the other 10 on the pitch are a bit better than the other 10 we put out last year

He played in his first start against Peterborough only due to signing a new contract

We'd have got pumped 5-1 or 5-2 instead of 5-0 a few times. Our defence was so bad (left back especially, RB too after Baldock's injury... plus no Souttar at CB) we'd have struggled defensively in the championship last season.

5 or so wins more and we would have had a good fight to stay up. Some of the early games were tight until our heads went. I think potentially could have been very different.

5 or so more wins would have indeed made a big difference. Absolutely no chance that keeping Ndiyae was worth 5 more wins in the Prem by himself... we got 3 ... you think hed practically triple our win rate single handedly? What you been smoking? 🤣

Palace (H)
Forest (A)
Everton (H)
Brighton (A)
Villa (A)
Luton (H)
West Ham (H)
Palace (A)
B'mouth (A)
Fulham (H)

All games that I reckon we'd have realistically been able to get more from with Ndiaye in the team.

But given the way he left and the way it all went down, bollocks to him

The palace, Forrest, Everton games early on were close. A star player absolutely could change those games. While we did get some absolutely embarrassing stuffings quite a few games we actually close.

Not really. I don't think we got spanked 8-0 because of our forwards couldn't score. We were so poor last year because our midfield and defence were as strong as tissue paper in a monsoon.

I wish we kept him, but that is just a dream

We drew and narrowly lost to them last season

As we saw against Leeds having no attacking options puts you under constant pressure maybe having snout ball could have helped

Whatever the situation we’ve let a 50+ million pound player slip through our grasp for a fraction of what he’s worth.
Again, he refused to sign a new contract, wanted to leave, and would have left for nothing had we not accepted the offer from Marseille. I don't get which part of this is difficult for some fans to understand? The club is not to blame for him leaving, he requested to leave. Just like Berge.
