Our fanbase seem to have heaps of, "I've paid for my ticket so I'll do what I want", even if it means standing in silence all game away from home or sitting high up on the kop and preventing others from standing.
We also have a lot of “I’ve paid for my ticket so I’ll stand where I want” who managed to get the back of the kop closed through their sense of entitlement.

But they also want to generate a good atmosphere, which benefits everyone.

Both are selfish and shouldn't do it, but only one is toxic to the experience of a game without any up-side.

There’s nothing selfish or toxic about a person buying a ticket for a seat and expecting to sit in it, and it isn’t for you or anyone else to dictate whether or not people sing.

Nobody is dictating anything to anyone, just giving opinions.

Most people involved in football want a good atmosphere at games, which necessitates singing. The atmosphere at any ground with any set of fans is better when people are stood up. If you buy a seat in an area where you know people tend to stand but you choose to sit, it hampers the atmosphere.

Saying "well, I bought the ticket so I'll do what I want", without considering how it effects other people, is selfish.

Get themselves to boro and Bristol and Blackburn tickets available
They’d have to go to around 500 similar games (and hope nobody else attends), to get close to being level on points needed for the bigger games.

Football has become more sanitised it's not what it was .
You used to turn up 83/84 season, pay yer pound stand sit were you want .
I went to the last 2 games of that season and sat in the john street seats near the away end & it was a magical atmosphere .
Them days are not coming back any time soon

We sat next to two teen/ early twenty year olds last year at Forest. They spent the whole match gesticulating to the Forest fans and had obviously taken something . They were incapable of chanting anything that didn’t start with an F or a C🤦🏻

…and probably filming themselves doing it.

What's your solution without upsetting fans that have loyalty followed home and away from year dot .
There isn't one unfortunately, but having loyalty points reduce 10% a season would make sense, as would giving far more loyalty points for attending trickier games (which they have got better at tbf).

Being able to ID fans to stop people buying tickets for others would also help, but is completely unrealistic.

I wonder if the safe standing option would assist fans to congregate in sections of the stand with like minded souls.

Naughty lads and those who still think they are twenty at the back with the singers.
Middle aged x naughty fellas in the middle who like a sing and are no longer allowed at the back.
Old un's next (60+) - Less stairs to climb or fall down, nearer to the bogs.
The packet lunch brigade, with knitting for half time and pops with kids and shirt signs at the front.

As sort of natural migration to the place where you belong.

A 10% annual reduction across the board would take time to make any difference.

Much higher points for less attractive/distance away fixtures would be a start.

Think Bristol City is 150 points compared to 50 for Blackburn which is decent but should be more like you say.

Midweeks usually price me out with the need for a hotel when the trains are predictably wank. Last train back from Middlesbrough is 21:03 ffs.

The same as your solution for people who can’t help what year they were born in.

Though I agree with what you are saying. It’s gone on that long, it’s made it a lot harder to change. It should have been done on a 3 year rolling basis, as other clubs do, from the off.

I’d rather struggle with steps than sit at the front and risk copping a flare thrown by some coked up shithouse.

I think this could be a solution tbh. Start offering really attractive points for somewhere like Bristol City on a Tuesday night (say 1,000) and it makes it a bit more interesting and gives a real chance to start making a rebalance.

Again, it’d take a few years though. The current points awarded for games get less valuable game by game. Offering 100-200 when it was in its infancy was worthwhile, now, it’s pointless (pun intended).

If we were actually trying to make noise I wouldn't complain if we were simply drowned out by greater numbers. But we were just silent for long periods. At local rivals Leeds. At a highly emotive time. Really didn't expect that.
Did you go? If so did you try to start a chant or song during these quiet periods? Did perhaps encourage those around you to start a chant or song? When I used to go away many moons ago, there was always someone ready to start a chant, and even more would shout encouragement. Maybe different times. We was easily entertained back then.

I've no problem with a rolling system ,but I will garentee the same people after the 3 year period will be top points holders ,and the cycle will go on . unfortunately some games there's bigger demand than supply . But for lots it goes to low points or general sale .there is also the hold back of 20% if it looks likely to sell out before general sale .

As a 70+ I'm quite capable of climbing a few stairs, haven't taken to falling down yet and if I go for a pee before the game I don't need to go again before full-time ;)

To be fair I was momentarily blindsided when my trendy hoodie with the highly fashionable goggles sown in slipt over my eyes - I actually meant to hit the ball boy.

Choosing to sit in the seat you have bought isn’t “doing what I want”, it is choosing to not break rules/laws. You may not have noticed, but we don’t have unreserved seating. What you seem to be saying is it’s selfish not to allow selfish people to do whatever they want. Which is a bit weird.

I'm saying it's selfish to choose to sit in an area where people want to stand. There are tickets to buy elsewhere in the stadium in which sitting isn't a problem.

What if you’ve had a season ticket for that seat with friends & family for years? Do you think it’s fine for such people to be displaced by coked up little arseholes?

Nothing I've said has suggested they should be "displaced" by anyone, I'm saying they should choose to move themselves. Why do you keep strawmaning?

If you're sat next to family members who are standing, you aren't really watching it together anyway. If the friends and family you come with all sit, you should sit somewhere else with them.
