Outsung by home fans

It’s just the whole structure of football that’s changed. When I didn’t have a season ticket I used to be able to get the sudden opportunity to go to a match on the spur of the moment and pay at the turnstile. I was thus able to get into a lot more games in those days. I’ve stood on the Anfield Kop
cheering us on when we were being hammered by Liverpool and had some scouser shout out “wow they’ve even got a supporter”.
Yet today the system doesn’t regard me as a loyal supporter.

The points issue is a tricky one. You have to remember that the equation “how many years watching blades = bigger bladey blade” has to be taken into account. So more points as more time to accrue. You’d upset a few with a reset.

You also have to remember that as a blade your either don’t sing so are a shit fan but also are not allowed to drink Madri at half time or get chizzled of yer chebs.

I think my point is (yer am gunna get to it) it’s such a fine line we walk as blades to be a fan for all. Sing but don’t drink Madri, don’t leave early or arrive late, don’t bring yer kids with signs, don’t go in outdoor at bogs, never question or oppose an opinion. It’s like a fucking Nannay state man

Only if you care what other people think. Which is a quick route to a miserable existence. Life is short and fragile, as George Baldock has sadly demonstrated. Do what makes you happy as long as it doesn't involve real harm/abuse of others.

Are you one of those who doesnt really watch the match and spend most of the time looking at the Leeds fans doing wanker gestures and shouting "Fuckoff you wankers!" all the time?

No. I just want to sing sheff utd songs and spend 2/3 of my time listening to my own voice.

Our fanbase seem to have heaps of, "I've paid for my ticket so I'll do what I want", even if it means standing in silence all game away from home or sitting high up on the kop and preventing others from standing.

Pre-match for Bladocks minute applause and for the first half hour our fans gave a decent account of themselves, but after that we were completely outsung by Leeds fans, long before they scored their first. I was really shocked how few Blades around me were interested in giving vocal support.

At this point I have to ask... do we need to have rolling loyalty points system where points fall off after 6/7 years? I feel like there's too much bias in the current loyalty system towards the older fans. Our loyalty points scheme has been going for a long time now and it feels like a lot of older Blades have racked up the loyalty points thanks to simply being older and following us longer, but they're now at an age where they've not got the desire/energy to sing for the team which is making our fans a bit of a laughing stock.
I don’t go away these days, but surely the number of tickets allocated has an impact. Approximately 3000 Blades v over 33500 Leeds fans, they are going to sound louder.

80% of our away games go to general sale, loyalty point argument is bollox. Our "support" home and away Is fucking abysmal these days, no idea why it's become how it has but it has. It's depressing. The numbers at home and away used to be way way less but the support was 10x better than now in the 2000s and in the early 2010s.

If we were actually trying to make noise I wouldn't complain if we were simply drowned out by greater numbers. But we were just silent for long periods. At local rivals Leeds. At a highly emotive time. Really didn't expect that.

I think there's possibly too much emphasis on loyalty points linked to season tickets. Whilst season ticket holders are doubtless loyal, loyalty points are (in the main) needed for away tickets and really should be acquired primarily by attending away games.
At the end of the day, the same fans will more than likely have top loyalty points whatever system is used.
It’s catch 22 though GB.. if you can’t get tickets for an away game how do you build up those points ? .. me & our lot will be at Boro , Bristol City & Blackburn Only because they are games we can get tickets for.. the vast majority of away games we won’t get sniff

Feel for young Bladies. No chance getting loyalty points for away games.
I assume this is sarcasm. Plenty of away games go to general sale( 3 the next away games as an example). There were also plenty of away games last season amd the promotion season went to general sale( which is why there were no ballots for these games)

The majority if away games go to general sale. So even if you are a first year season ticket holder you can go to plenty of away games.

Leeds and possibly Hull (?) Went to the ballot if I recall correctly

I think the more notable thing is how the atmosphere can help the home team. Some of Leeds songs are a bit cringey, but overall the noise levels and consistency of support are light years apart from Bramall Lane.
Although loud, I was falling asleep listening to there song before kick off. Drags on a bit...

A lot of clubs have been proactive regarding the deterioration in vocal home support. They've recognised what has happened re football demographics and set up vocal sections of the ground after negotiations with supporters groups etc. We seem to have gone the other way: watched it deteriorate further and done absolutely nothing officially to stem the tide. Fans have tried their own (far from perfect) unofficial solutions to this by standing together at the back of the Kop (especially on the John Street side, where there were more empty seats) and United/health and safety have come down hard on them. No alternative has been offered by the club. It shouldn't have been an issue for those fans as the club should've already sorted it imo.

They've also taken down the flags on the Kop and are warning people re flag specs this week (the Baldock flags are a hot topic). All in all it's making the match more like a beige trip to the theatre. Its also normalising it, and in time (if it hasn't already) will change the nature of United's support from historically one of the most vocal to a quiet support.
There's no prospect of an official standing section until there is major ground development (per Bettis). It's best to park that solution in the pipe dream spot.

The loyalty point shitshow should've been sorted years ago. I've found it hard to go these last four or five years (due to health issues) and I'm sat on 60,000 +. My brother is half my age and went regularly throughout that period - he gets tickets after me. That wasn't the reason loyalty points were brought in: to incentives current ticket sales and serve fans interests that go away most often. You shouldn't be able to not go for years and then get a ticket for a huge game. The club trumpets all its inclusionary measures whilst being anything but when it comes to a fair and equitable system re loyalty points. The ballot is a sticking plaster on a structural issue which gets more politically difficult to solve every year you kick the can down the road.

Although it isn't ideal, I think Sky Kick off times will now allow people in a shitty position re points attend more. If our results aren't great (in any league) it'll also help. See the PL last season: a lot of tickets were available then. Maybe a more realistic/ proactive fight is to pressure the club into selling tickets quicker so trains/coaches can be booked asap?

You're missing the point. See Fjortoft's post above.
but all teams are going to have ups & downs. outside of QPR in the 2nd half i cant think of any vocal supports for long period from other away fans

yeah the team didnt give them much to shout about. football isnt going to be a bed of roses every week. its going to be rubbish, too many fans have these idealistic version of football in their head. i always say we are not turkey, we are not Argentina. we dont have bouncing fans. we have alot of fans who incrediblely are interested in the game of football & men cant multi task

Mebbe we should fuck off loyalty points altogether and have volume points instead? I like the idea that old fellers can't sing though, nice one
Old fellers can and do sing.Often while younger fellers are fixated on their mobile screens so I'm not sure it's that black n white.
Having also witnessed on here some of the laughable attempts at suggested "songs/chants" there's little wonder generic stuff prevails 🤔.
When I'm listening to the Kop from BLUT I'm struck by how out of tune and rhythm many songs are.
GCB is a decent example of how rushed it seems, when a pause here and there would give it more impact, for me anyroad 🙏
It certainly doesn't appear to be the immersive experience of old at times.🤔👍

Vast majority!!! Are you for real, every single away game in 2024 other than luton, Brentford, hull and Leeds have reached general sale, nearly the lot did in the promotion season too, every one from now on until derby in February probably will as well, West brom and Sunderland possibly could go just before. There's very little games people can't go too, the atmosphere is fucking wank at them all too, infact Brentford away which sold out to all the high pointers was by far the best for ages.

Seems to be an unpopular opinion, but I agree with the points made re: loyalty points. The system has gone on so long now that its creating an aged based barrier.

I understand the basic point but how does that explain the many sub thirty year olds at away games?

Looks like someone has actually thought this through rather than moaning about old bastards in general.

All for standing and singing at away games but sick to the back teeth of selfish cunts who think they can stand three to a seat.

One came and stood literally bang in front of me last night. I was like Joe Biden sniffing his hair.

I had to literally physically move him to the side so I could see the game. He and his mate looked at me as though I was out of order.
