More specifically it shows that too much change was attempted too quickly. We have gone back to getting some of the basics right and have become a much tougher proposition.

great point tonight, and a clean sheet!

then again we're still in the bottom 4 and haven't won away since, who knows when?

still much much better than it was. 2 games unbeaten!

It's our first away point after a run of 8 straight away league defeats. And it was away to the team in second.

It was a good point, which only goes to show how utterly shit Weir was. Morgan is hardly Alec Ferguson, but he now has only 1 less point in 3 games then Weir got in 10.

Onward and upward

We have now got 44.4% of our points in the 23% of League games Morgan has been in charge for.

Yes, let's get Weir's compensation in the post. He's earned it......;

But hey, we have still got non-league Nigel to uphold the tradition of ten passes at a time in the centre circle before being nice boys and letting the opposition have a go with it. Plenty to keep the purists happy.

If he does come on board I think we should have no pre-conceived ideas on how he will play.

I'm sat on the fence about him, can't decide either way unlike Weir who lit up my world on appointment.

Lets hope ignition comes after rather than before?

Why wait ten passes? The beauty of Hoof is you can give it away so much quicker.

And to be fair, it was the only way we would have scored on a freezing afternoon on the Wirral.
we beat them the year before in a freezing late year evening without an og didnt we?

ideal manager would be Steve Bruce - particularly after Arsenal scored from the bogus throw in in the FA Cup - just boot it straight to their goalie from the kick off

Any one still happy with aimless hoof, should perhaps have watched the Arsenal game against the Germans. The long ball, all the time equals ,the wooden spoon, Short intricate play all the time ditto repeat0.

IMO football is,. and has always been about making a game c hanging pass. Long.,short, but never indifferent,
It is not hoof to complete a cross field pass that puts you on the offensive.
If only our 'hoofers' had their boots on the right feet, we could perhaps mix things up and compete with the best of them
Horses for courses, as they say. Well done lads keep it up. Well done Morgs.

.

But yet, the winning team's goals happened after

  • winning back the ball high up the pitch, quick pass and a quick finish.
  • quick counter attack with great movement

I thought Borrusia were very good and very direct, no passing it around , just get it forward , was very good

What I noticed was, after Mikhitaryan scored Dortmund's first the No. 29 (Schmelzer) ran up to him and was obviously making some complex tactical point (probably 'make your runs this way'?).

No whoopin' & hollerin, no demolishing the corner flag and certainly no naff 'heart' sign to the cameras.

Totally professional.

So we are already calling the manager childish names? If Nigel is non league what would that make Chris?

Pinchy wind up alert

What this week has shown is that if you play the type of football which suits the players in your team you get more points.

To play slick passing football involving your back 4 and midfield we need about 6 new players. I hope the board are prepared to pay for the players Clough needs OR Clough is happy to transition to a new style of playing over a period of time and in that transition he starts with the back 4 - 2 fullbacks and a centre half, all who can keep the ball and have pace.

You have a point and make it well. I'm not sure we need six. Are you including midfielders? I think Baxter, Cuvelier and Coady will blossom under the right management.

But we didn't hoof it against Vale. We played in a similar 'style' (for want of a better word - I'm a bit fed up of some of the black & white arguments on here) as we have done for most of the season.

For me the difference was the formation, better movement and getting the ball out wide more, but we passed it pretty well. Weir's 'style' was not the problem, it was the execution and pace, and the lack of flexibility about a 1 up-front approach not working with this set of players.

You can play 4-4-2 and still pass the ball well (as we did under Wilson in his first season especially).
