Tomorrow is Dave Bassett's 80th birthday. Will always be grateful for him giving us some of the best years supporting United Ive seen (along with Wilder's team from 2017-2020). United have always been best when managed by a big personality- and Bassett certainly meets that criteria. Have a great birthday tomorrow Harry!

Legendary achievements, a great, unforgettable time to be a Blade with amazing memories (one of the genuinely great top flight underdog stories) but also a truly lovely bloke- always very accommodating and friendly when I met him as a kid, then always ready for a Blades chat when I encountered him in later years.

And of course we'd love him but take a step back and look at his record- people talk about Leicester being the great underdog achievement but he did the equivalent with us and Wimbledon over and over again with zero budget. One of the great managers and certainly one of ours.

The word legend gets banded about far too easily these days, but he was one that's for sure, huge personality and had us punching well above our weight, I'm pretty sure on my death bed I'll remember Leicester away and grin to myself, happy birthday Harry

Those of us old enough will remember the pitiful state of the club and especially the first team he inherited.
No money and paying a huge debt (at the time) on the South Stand. The previous season the club basically had a 'whip-round' the fans to buy flop striker, Richard Cadette.
Attendances had fallen below 10,000 and 1st Division football seemed a million miles away.
The fact that he turned it round having spent next to nothing and won successive promotions to Division 1 was nothing short of a miracle.
I still remember going to the first game of the season against Liverpool with Rush, Barnes and Houghton and I couldn't believe it was actaully happening.

Took us from being a basket case to Div 1 and kept us there 4 seasons on a shoestring in the teeth of boardroom shenanigans - even put his own money in to help transfers - gave the club his all - a real hero - the teams he created had real backbone - made me proud to be a Blade.

Writing a post about him doesn't tell the story ! a unique character who carried people along with him a book is a necessaty to really do him justice.
Ahead of his time in many aspects of the modern game.
All great managers apart from coaching skills have the added ability to bring out the best in players due to a gift of being amateur Psychologists ! Harry was definitely one of those lifting players to levels they would have never dreamt of.
Hopefully he will be invited to a match as a VIP in the near future! When this takeover business is concluded, great man!!.

Bassett and his squad of misfits, triers, battlers and the odd diamond made my teenage years a million times better than they might’ve been. I know football is only a game, but I’ll always remember that bunch and how I looked forward to Saturdays. Being at a Wednesday-heavy school, his team so often made Mondays quite a joy.

Happy birthday, Harry and THANK YOU!

Over 30 years since he moved up north his legacy still lives on. That fighting spirit that we witnessed towards the end of Sunday's game was a typical Bassett Blades performance.

Wilder gets it. As Blades we get it.

Ironically it took a southerner to come up here and instill a culture into our club that we all can all identify with.

Happy birthday Harry.

We will get fined again with the premium going up each time. Leeds used to do it deliberately to unsettle the opposition and not just pushing and shuvving ! Kicking was on the menu! Revie Knew exactly what the plan was as he devised it.
Don't like talking about the dead in a negative way but he and his captain Bremner
used every method possible to win a game.
Only murder was off the table as far as Leeds were concerned in them days.
