Souza off!?

I would expect the recruitment team to have players lined up to replace anyone that we sell.
Whether they are as good who knows but it’s all about the sum of the parts and 2/3 players to improve the squad are possibly better than one.

Suppose if Souza goes it'd allow Hamer to play in what I think is a more effective position in the middle and we could buy a specialist left winger. If Souza goes for 15m, Anel for 17m, then with the income we got from Archer, Bogle and Osula, (around 60m!) we could shell out on a Jack Clarke level player for the wing if we wanted

hamer has to be played more centrally where he can be more influential yes he set both goals up from the left but imo if we had moved him inside we would have won that game

Think he'll stay. High price high risk on buyers. Need him, not the easiest position to replace so late.

souza could be a vital player for us if he would only stop showboating him and arblaster could be the best 2 holding midfielders in the championship

Personally I think Souza is stifling Blaster. He is still too maverick for my taste. If he could sit in more and not go wild it would be so much better. I just think if we can make a profit on him, we can bring in 2 players who will benefit the team more than keeping him.

Only sell if we get more than £15m and doubt they have that much

This is so tedious. As others have said there's no way fenerbache will pay what amount we'll be asking for him so this is just pointless. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the example wilder is on about in the press conference of clubs making derisory bids to unsettle players.

Maybe this is the one that Wilder alluded too about trying to unsettle a player. Doubt that Fener have got the money to sign him for what we want, so are maybe trying to unsettle Souza in the hope he refuses to play and get a move, therefore lowering our asking price. Of course I could be miles off, but of all the rumoured exits so far this would seem to be the most unserious compared to the likes of Anel to Ipswich, and Blaster & Hamer to the PL.

Beat me to it

Do we think it was an actual bid or was it an agent that was contacted to unsettle the player?

To be fair everyone does it. Sounds like exactly what we did with Cooper and then we eventually picked him up for next to nothing. It’s annoying but is what it is.

Cooper only had a year left on his contract which leaves the club in question vulnerable. Same with Bogle of course. Whether we vidded low I'm not sure but think Plymouth said as much!

If we get 15m for Anel we really don't need to be asking for a big fee for Souza

Sell for whatever's realistic, lose his wages, sign a suitable replacement

You wouldn’t sell your car for less than what it’s worth just because you had a bit of cash in the bank

Souza could play a bit role this season

Do you work for Fenerbache?
👀

If I had a week to sell it, knew it wouldn't increase in value thereafter and knew I could replace it with something that suits me better and is cheaper to run..... I'd be very 'open to offers' !

Souza suits a 4231 formation absolutely fine.

We were told one big sale this summer would help balance the books. We’ve sold Osula, Bogle and looks like Anel is going too. We probably don’t want to sell Souza. He’s clearly in Wilders plans being used throughout preseason and in both league games so far.

Selling him for less than he’s worth would not make sense at all. Why spend a couple of weeks knocking back approaches from Fulham to suddenly take what would realistically probably be half or less than we could have got.

Players don’t decrease in value towards the end of transfer windows either. Teams get desperate and over pay so it would make even less sense to do a cut price deal now

Surely it's the opposite? If we sell anel for 15m then it relieves pressure meaning we don't have to cut prices on remaining players to ensure a sale. Instead we can ask for more and either end up with even more cash or keep a player that will be useful.

I mean unless Souza's wages are absolutely crippling us which I don't think they are.

Souza won't increase his value from the sort of 10m+ figures we're looking at now even with decent performances in the championship. He'll also have 6-12 months less on his contract whenever we come to sell him

His wages may not be crippling but you have to look if they could be put to better use and I'm pretty certain they could be
