Well, we might actually be able to deal with cross now.

Only just discovered this section of the board, I thought you lot were remarkably quiet on transfer window stuff
Can only say I think the analyses of Souttar here are well wide of the mark and seem to be based largely on the fact that he's a big bastard. But he doesn't really fit the archetype of a big ugly CB - here's what I put on the General board:
Souttar pros: good on the ball, can play out and ping passes, excellent in the middle of a 3 (which I think you play?)
Souttar cons: a bit lumbering on the turn, susceptible to a ball over the top, doesn't look comfortable in a four (which we play)
Overall upper end Champo defender, could do a lot worse.
So while there is truth in him being a bit cumbersome (simply by nature of his giant frame), he's far from slow, in fact at full pelt I'd say he's very quick - he's often able to get others (or himself) out of jail by chasing across and covering. He's also good with the ball, well capable of stepping out and marauding through the midfield to set up attacks, and has a good raking long pass on him too.
I would say it depends very much on the system you play though. As a pair and/or in a high line his weaknesses get more exposed, but in the middle of a 3 he's proper classy.
Opposition teams will fear Moore and Souttar when we have a corner kick
Not according to Stoke fans! Say he's brilliant defensively on set pieces but shocking at the other end
Ok, stick him in the front post to pull away the tall markers and Burrows, the corner taker, to aim for the far post for our best headers to attack the cross. Not according to Stoke fans! Say he's brilliant defensively on set pieces but shocking at the other end

Could he do a job at the back?
Decent reviews on him. Plays better in a 5 but does play in a 4 with the Aussies
From what I've seen, Gilchrist really isn't a wingback - in the same way that JLT isn't.
He has/can play RB but RCB in either a 2 or 3 is his best/preferred position.
Utd have a habit of trying to play with square pegs in round roles. Let's hope CW's recruits better fit the formation he intends to play (4-2-3-1??) and can adapt to Plan B (3-5-1-1 or 3-5-2).
with Souza and AnelOpposition teams will fear Moore and Souttar when we have a corner kick
I think signing Gilchrist as well covers us if Anel does leave, really wouldn't be surprised if one of Anel and Souza went towards the back end of the window when teams are trying to complete their squads.Chuffed with this. Just wondering if that means Anel is off or we've just signed Souttar now just in case Anel leaves. Either way I'm guessing he's coming to play and wouldn't be happy sitting in the bench. Can't see a return to a fiver because we're signing wingers or trying to and have played 4 at the back all pre season unless that was only to see how we did with it and with lack of numbers.
Will be interesting to see for Fridays match. Really like Souttar either way.
Gilchrist is certainly not a RWBCooper
