Well, its probably not a major surprise that the winner of the No.1 shirt in the dream post 1999 squad was Paddy Kenny and the "winner" of the shirt in the nightmare squad was Steve Simonsen.

Now for the no. 2 (fnaarr, fnarr etc etc)

This should be a walkover! Give the shirt to Lowton now Dazzler and move onto No. 3 :)

I actually voted foir Halford. The rule is that you go on their performance when they wore the shirt. Whilst Lowton did have a great 2011-12 season, that was in the 3rd division and I reckoned Halford's performance in the 2nd division in 2008-09 was, taking into account the standard of the opposition, better.

I've still never forgiven Lowton for that lunge at Oldham that to my mind cost us promotion that year. Just think, Wednesday up instead of us and it wouldn't have happened if he hadn't acted like a petulant child.

Blimey Darren, clearly I'm not going to be fond of the finished squad!

Thought halford was much better player than lowts and we would have beat burnley if he was fully fit

There is an argument that Maguire equally cost us. In the last minute of that game it was 2-2, when a long ball saw the Oldham foward out sprint our Harry and end up in a one on one with Simonsen. However, as he entered the box, the ball had run away somewhat from the Oldham player and, with Simonsen rushing out from his goal, the odds were about 70-30 in Simonsen's favour re him being able to smother any shot the Oldham player might get in.

As we all know, Maguire decided to pull the player back resulting in a pen (and goal) and red card. That red card meant both he and Lowton were missing from the next game when we lost 3-2 at struggling Walsall.

Had we drawn that game 2-2, we would have gone into that last game at Exeter with our fate still in our own hands. Had Maguire not been sent off, we may well also have got at least a point at Walsall...

Quite, had Harry not pulled him back, even if he scores, we are in a much better position at Walsall as we have HM available.

As it was, he took the worst possible action in getting himself sent off and conceding a penalty.

I'm always governed by whether or not a player actually signed for us. Halford never did, so I go for an actual Sheffield United player (pedant alert!).

As for Lowton, surely it's the penalty miss that we should beat him with. If he scores, game over! He didn't, we lost!

Is there any real difference between a player who signs on a one year loan (Halford) or a one year contract (Jordan - not that I am advocating a vote for him :-)) ?

In actuality, no! In my head, yes! One has made a one year commitment to the club and they hold his registration. The other is either having a year to see how it goes, or is just a mercenary git getting what he can!

I can see another squad thread coming. Only players that sign permanently for us:rolleyes:. Looks like you'll have to put 5 pages of instructions at the top of the next poll.

If Lowton hadn't been sent off we'd probably still have been winning and therefore not chasing the game and committing men forward. Also, Lowton might have been back there to help out (unlikely, admittedly, as he was a woeful defender). Lowton's rush of bloody arguably cost of six points, and that's leaving aside every time he was caught out of position, skinned easily or gave away stupid corners (e.g. Tranmere away, from which they equalised). He was a fine attacking player but boy did he cost us going the other way. That said, the second yellow against Oldham was for a foul committed in their box.

6 votes for Kozluk!!!!!!! A joker he certainly was, especially on the pitch.

Im sure Halford had his best spell for us playing upfront and then on the wing, im sure he got dropped when playing right back

For the 8th millionth time, the poll is not about position, it's about shirt number, so where they actually played makes no difference!

As Darren explained to me, I don't think this is anything to do with position, merely 'Who is the best player to wear number X' in the last 13 years+

*EDIT - Beat me to it Dazzler

Yes, I can still see that foul :-( He had been booked moments before for a stupid scuffle with an Oldham player after he tried to get the ball after Creswell's spectacular OG. He was lucky in that he only got a second yellow for that X rated tackle. It looked a straight red to me.

so what number are you going upto to figure this squad out?

I think I might have to change the way I do the "nightmare" squad. If things stay as they are, Bromby will get the nightmare place by virtue of his greater apperances, which seems a travesty given the likes of France, Jordan and Westlake being in the mix.

I will do a seperate "play off" vote when there there is a tie for the worst player to don the shirt.

I know he cost us points with defensive naivety but Lowton was exciting to watch - not many number 2s (or right backs in general) end up in the 6 yard box trying to finish off moves as much as he does. His offensive impact was huge, he plays an unusually direct game for someone in his position and has great all-round technique - heading, volleying, crossing.

Also, his goal celebrations are top notch (see my avatar :) ).

I won't lie I've gone for Bromby. I bloody loved him. I also loved Derek Geary.

Likewise - it'll take someone ridiculously good to stop me voting for Geary when his number's up.

I thought Bromby was by and large a very good player for us. Played a significantly solid part in our promotion season too.

I see the run off for the worse no.2 will now be between Westlake and Jordan (though I rather suspect France's one vote may be a joke). If people can just put in this thread who they think is teh worst of the two, in the likely event that Messrs Jordan and Westlake fail to get any votes, I will tot them up we will then have our guy for the nightmare squad.
