Summer transfers - Wilder and Knill

This is from May, I wonder if Wilder expected more by now?

If he did then he was being wildly unrealistic.
That doesn’t mean that I don’t think he expected it, it was just never going to happen and he knew that.
So far we’ve done some solid work under the financial circumstances we’re in where the books need to balance. There’s still 6-7 that are needed in but most of those won’t come in until late as they’ll be loans. GK, RB, 2xCB, plus a winger/AM along with a first team forward.
We all have the same position list it’s just a case of how many can we get in before next Friday? I’d say RB and GK are the priority for that game.

Wouldn't be suprised to see loans in the remaining positions currently. We desperately need a keeper, Grbic should not be allowed anywhere near a shirt again!
2 CBs
1 RB
1 Striker
As it currently stands, I know we need more players, but this uses our 5 loan spots and hopefully the players we can get in would be quality editions, we can only prey for another Hendo!!
Obviously though, if we could land Cooper, Worrall, then that makes us far stronger and frees up 2 loan spots...

Let's see how we get on this week, id personally like to see atleast 3 through the door.

As a fan who doesn’t avidly follow the daily goings on at SUFC and not that knowledgeable when it comes to players and team balance etc, as it stands are we good to go for next season ? Presumably there’ll be some exits Hamer, Anel, Souza ?

Or is it a question that can’t be answered ?

Think we do need a few more quality players mate. I personally would like to see a right full back, GK and a striker on perms with the rest being loans - presumably, young quality loans from thr prem.

"Are we good to go for next season?" No. We still need players in a number of positions, particularly goalkeeper, centre back and right back.

"Presumably there'll be some exits Hamer, Anel, Souza?"

Probably, but nothing is agreed yet as far as player sales go. Souza looks the most likely to leave right now of those 3, but we've got to just wait and see. However if there is some player movement out, it should allow for us to make additional signings of our own.

cooper gilchrist worrall armstrong new full back and another striker by the end of august and cant see us not challenging for top 6

I think Wilder and Knill are now pretty much in charge of transfers/contract renewals for the summer.

The old scouts haven't been replaced and the young players are being tied down pretty quickly by Wilder and Knill. History also suggests they can spot a good player who can step up and bring through young players. They are not going to get it right 100 percent of the time but I do trust them more than the old regime.
Looking so much better so far. Need a lot more players but we have gone for younger players who fit our new system. Much better.

Mcburnie, Osula, Jebbison, Archer, Traore and BBD all not here now.

How many strikers we realistically going to sign?

Most of those were signed for us/developed by us whilst we played a 352. Now that we appear to be changing to a 4231, we dont need as many true #9s like we have in the past.

I'd hope to see us replace Mcburnie, Osula & Jebbison with wide players, rather than strikers masquerading as wide players (like Osula probably would have been). The one I'd most like us to go after if money were no object, is Mason-Clark at Coventry. We missed the chance in January though, when they signed him for 1million or something. Really like the look of him though - tons of goal involvements for Posh last year, and looks like making the step up this year too.

One permanently injured, one a glorified loan and didn’t look bothered, one an actual loan and gone back and 3 that had 2 league goals for us in the last 5 years between them. Realistically we are no worse off now than we were this time last season. Yes we need at least 1 more, but not a lot has changed since last season

We need competition/cover for :
Adam Davies
Vini Souza
Kieffer Moore
If any of those 3 get injured we are up shit creek.
We also need a RB.

We have 3 who can play right back - Gilchrist, Shackleton and Seriki.

If he gets a striker then that could be it.
I agree but.. Gilchrist mainly a CB? Shackleton been injured and played alot in midfield? Seriki probably will get a decent loan move and not ready for the Championship yet

Still think a solid permanent RB is needed after Bogle and Baldock.

I think they should keep a loan spot for the end of the window. Even if we have the squad largely covered at that point, some absolute game changers can become available, as the Premier squads finalise their business.

Gilchrist does look like a CB to me, especially not in a two. He was beaten in the air frequently on Friday. That isn't me criticising him just an observation. I am happy for him to develop as a right back

So we sign Rak-Sakyi, keeper becomes a priority with one of Cooper/Rushworth.

After that, we could do with another striker to compete with Moore and Brewster.

With just under 3 weeks left of the transfer window left, what/who do you want us to sign/loan?

Still one or two more! after what can only be described as an outstanding window. Well done Wilder and Knill in talking the best Championship players into joining United ;)

To be fair to Wilder, his recruitment was pretty good last time we had no money. It was when he started to throw the £millions around that it went to crap.

It all happened so fast though from league 1 to pushing for europe in 3 years! There's been time to reflect and lessons learned, including last season a lesson in how to endure a shitfest and still carry on. Hopefully we can go up and survive next time. All notwithstanding new owners coming in and that that will affect it all.

Strikers now has to be the priority, we have no options any good off the bench.

Then a right back and centre mid.
