If they are in for him, it's for potential, not for the first team.

Must be a loan back clause in it? With substantial sell on clauses I could see this working.

Plus a big wedge up front so we can get some more bodies through the door.
If they loan him back to us and he starts playing well and scoring what would we think about that

We need him though this season. Who are we to buy at what price to act as back up?

Not packed out with strikers and if injuries hit, he will be in.

If he plays to his his potential, his value rockets.

No brainer to keep for me with the contract he has.
It is if we wasn’t relying on money to just survive. You see the money Burnley, Leeds have generated through player sales to make up the losses.

Or you gamble on getting promoted like last time and keep him. Unfortunately we’re a selling club to survive as we don’t have wealth.

If you get £15m for Osula now & that allows us to get 3 more first team players in on 3/4 year deals then it’s likely Wilder will action the sale.

Hopefully with signing players like Cooper & Burrows were doing this on a smaller scale to other teams at the back end.

Could this be our Calvin Lewin moment. Personally I'd like to see Osula given a chance however if the sale enables us to be stronger it's 6 and 2 3s

I'm getting Dom Calvert-Lewin vibes from this. £10m might seem decent, no doubt with decent sell on but there's no guarantee they'll sell given how rich Newcastle are these days. He's got to get the best centre forward prospect at his age since we had Deane as a raw 19 year old. We should not be selling young players who have nowhere near fulfilled their potential.

SouA and Anel going fine, even Hamer as we have no control of that if a club reaches the but out clause but Arblaster and Osula shouldn't be sold unless very silly money. £30m minimum for Arblaster and £18m plus for Osula. Anything else is known at short sighted gain, long term loss. If we do go up both players will have a decent chance if making the step up, we know we can't fine many of this quality.

I don’t want to sell him unless it’s for unbelievable money, but I realise the financial situation we - like most clubs outside the big six - face.

That said, if he does go, I don’t want to see him back on loan. I don’t mind developing him if it’s for our team or to push his eventual value up, but I see no benefit at all in us doing that for another team and risking a squad place with very little potential return on that risk.

The club may be between a rock and a hard place with osula . 1st it may just be a rumour , 2nd the price may be completely made up.
It'll come down to lots if variables , sales and value of other players ( vini anel) , cost of the remainder of the rebuild , finances , state of takeover , and if real , the lure of the wages and osulas own ambition .
There's probably alot more and it's all a moveable feast.
If osola is sold or retained it'll be a combination of all of the above and more .
As a player he may develop into a good championship player but never make the level above , non of us know . I'd like to see him stay if we can balance everything out by selling vini or anel or both . Perhaps he's not realised his full value, perhaps at £10m he has . Tough call either way .

Cameron Archer got 11 goals for Boro in the Championship and it made him a £18 million player. Osula would get more than 11 this season and has a lot more to his game than Archer imo, if he had a really good season he’d be worth 20-25 million in today’s market. But the Prince is hardly going to tell the Crown Prince no, so it will be off to Newcastle he goes if they are seriously interested.

Keep x 100. Potentially will be our top scorer next season. Selling on the eve of his breakout season, in a new formation that suits his strengths would be so stupid.
As much as you're right, its obvious how tight funds are. That money is going to have to come from somewhere & the only way of doing that is by selling players as the current owner doesnt have huge personal wealth & it doesnt sound like the potential new owners are much better.

Exactly. You can kind of see the semblance of a plan emerging. Releases all the old guard and start to build around young homegrown players like Arblaster, RND, Osula (probably Peck and Marsh too by early 2025)....

That plan crumbles pretty quickly if we drop our knickers the first sniff we get for one of these players...

I was pretty relaxed letting the older/deader wood leave when we had the prospect of seeing Osula and Jebbison lead a front footed Wilder side - but if we lose both of them this Summer, we're literally making it up as we go along.

If players in the cold light of day need to be viewed as financial assets then we need to view them in the same way as stocks and shares. 10m is Newcastle wanting to get in their quickly before his stock increases. 10m is based on knowing how good he can become.

If he had stats in the Premier League to show he had scored we would be asking for double or tripple. We were that poor that he was never likely to get many goals. We can't sell our stocks and shares in this player before his very very likely breakout season. Ask Coventry what they would sell Ellis Simms for etc etc. Anel and Souza have probably peaked with us, price wise as we would need to get back to the Premier League then they would need to do well in the Premier League before they valuations increased, so let's sell them first if we have to.

We've also done the tough part of his development. Using him when not ready, asking him to run around aimlessly when we can't get the ball back. Using him to save money on buying a striker that is ready and filling the gap left by injury prone players. I just want us to enjoy him now the fruits of the above are going to be produced.

Yes losing Osula and Jebbison this season would be like Deane and Fjortoft all over again.

I think this climbs the bladey bollocks charts up to at least number 2.
I presume you are old enough to remember that debacle if so I think you are forgetting how horrendous that was if you think letting Jebbison and Osula go is the same.
It may be that one or both go on to have stellar careers but that’s far from certain.

As ever, it comes down to the player and whether he wants it.

If it's coupled with a reasonable offer (which this one is), then he'll go if he pushes for it. Which is fair.

£10m? Sell. Easy decision. Can’t keep trotting out the same line about DCL with every young striker. DCL, for what it matters, has had 2 good seasons since his move to Everton 8 years ago. Never understood the fixation with him, bang average striker with a long history of injuries.

All that will happen is we will keep him, he will score less than 5 league goals before his contract runs down then people will say “should have taken the £10m”. Really need to stop getting so invested in players that have never scored a league for us.

Reading this thread i feel like I’ve been watching a different player. I’m definitely no expert, to caveat. Great physical attributes, but not the touch/composure/brain of a top player. I’d like to be proven wrong, but if it’s actually 10m (not 1m upfront and 9m if he wins champs league) then I’d shaking his hand and saying goodbye. When BBD has just gone for 7m it’s shame this couldn’t have gone through earlier and us hijack that!

As above hope I’m wrong and he bags 20 this season, but I just don’t see it.

It could be a DCL moment, it could be a Ramsdale moment if we spend the money wisely.

He is still 20.
I have watched a lot of him at U23 level and he is a stand out player at that level. Much more than other players who have gone on to bigger and better things.
So you can only base it on potential still, but all the signs are there.
Personally I think he would be great at L1 standard and knock in 20+. Championship level might still be a challenge for him, but who knows?
Players at that age can push on so fast, or stagnate, or go backwards.
David Brooks developed at such a pace at that age. I think I have got my timeline right? At 19/20 we were loaning him to Chesterfield supposedly, at 20/21 he was tearing the Championship apart.

I don’t think anyone is foreseeing that. As HarryHaslam says, look at how little Cameron Archer did to be worth much more than this alleged Osula bid.
But still did more than Osula currently has. Like I said I can’t see if he’s going to be amazing or not but if his sale is used to bring in the players to get us a competitive team then maybe it’s a bullet we need to bite.

What he said 👆👆

Need to remember, he's still only 20. If he scores 10+ this season, he'll be worth more than £10m.
Simms is a good example. He went for £8m having had a couple of decent loans. Osula has been thrown in at the deep end a bit for United. Last season he should have been on loan at the Championship, but we had to use him.

As Rocket says. This will be his breakout season if he stays

Not that the first team coach should be "actioning" any sales, if the club was to bring in three players on four year deals that improve the first team for just £15 million, that would be the coup of the century. An average amount of wages/bonuses for a top half Championship club would eat through pretty much the entirety of £15m over the course of their contracts, good luck in acquiring the registrations with what's left of that budget.

I'm absolutely buzzing off the people on here claiming that he's a dog driving a lorry, shit because he didn't score for Derby, hasn't scored in the PL, Brewster reincarnated....

Slow down, breathe, stop being hard of thinking!

Newcastle United, the richest club on the planet, with a bottomless pit of money, could buy any player they want to, have a scouting/analytics department created by the leading Director of Football in the English game - THINK OSULA IS WORTH BUYING.

Nah, he's shit....

Our fans.....

I just hope we're not in the same position as we were with Ndiaye, where we kept him for a season as a calculated risk that he would help us achieve promotion at the sacrifice of recieving a fee that would balance the books. I just don't think we would take the same risk this time, and we'd be forced to sell for whatever we deemed as necessary to provide income

You've took a comedic comparison and gone a bit overboard I reckon, just a thought

Also, kinda shot yourself in the foot, when they've got a bottomless pit of money they can take a risk on him even if he is shit, no? Which I'm not sure anyone has said he is... by the way.

Hi Stegosaurus here,

I am sure we can sign a player for less than 10 million who is better than L1 Level Osula.

Adam Armstrong, for example -- great in Championship, proven to be not PL level. I bet we could scratch out a deal with Southampton.
