Good players at good ages tend to run the contracts out more than ever. This benefits players economically .sign on fees.lower transferfees and higher wages.
We've got a some good deals on free and might loose some aswell. Hate to see Bogle go just based on contractsituation. £ 4 mill is a joke compared to A Gray £ 40 mill.
McBurnie on a free after 5 years = £ 4 mill a year in transferfees + wages.
Good or bad?

It’s bad for clubs. Good for players.

They often get a good chunk of their market value as a signing on fee when moving on a free to boost their already astronomical wages.

Think we’ll see a culture shift where unless you’re a top club you don’t pay decent fees. Players will move around on frees with all the power.

Otherwise your 20 million player costs you £5 million a season ‘rent’ plus 40/50k a week

I would make them stewards for the remainder of their contract.

We're already seeing clubs adapt to this culture shift of running contracts down.

Clubs are now signing players on 6,7,8.. even 9 year contracts 😲

The longer the players contract the better the outlay even if they decide to run their contracts down.

That also helps with FFP doesn’t it as the upfront fee is split over the length of contract when calculating FFP.

Premier League nipped that whole 8-year contract thing in the bud last season. Think the max term a player can be tied down for is 5 years now, so that clubs can't just spread expensive transfer fees out like Chelsea were doing to get around FFP

They can sign the player on any length of contract they see fit it’s the fee that’s only allowed to be spread over 5 years max.

Correct HB - a recent change to address a loophole.

Not much of a rumour from the OP is it??

My mistake - must have misread it and thought it was the contract rather than just the transfer. Cheers for the correction

Wouldn't make it as stewards. If someone tried to run on the pitch off the Kop, Souza would just point and Bogle'd be out of position. Anel would make a half arsed attempt to grab their shirt.
Aye
& Brewster would pull up after pursuing the infiltrator for 20 yards
McBurnie’s ‘CV’ would indicate this may be a career opportunity for him mind ?

No, it's only us it happens to.
I have read it countless times on here that it's all down to rank incompetence by our owner.
It goes without saying that every other club is fantastic at player retention.

Running the contract down has pros and cons for both player and club.
The player is gambling that he won't get injured and be out of football for a long period or even end his career.
This could also be the reason why some players take their foot of the pedal in their final year in contract..

I think now McBurnie has fully gone, new sheff u YouTube video Kieffer Moore has the number 9 on his training shirt…
