Blades 3 Arsenal 3 in April 1963. Len Allchurch hat trick, 2 from penalties.

One of six league games in our history when a Blades player scored a hattrick and did not finish on the winning side. Jimmy Dunne did it on 3 occasions before this, and Leon Clarke (v Fulham) and Billy Sharp (v Villa) have done it since.

Just saw this on Twitter so it rules out any of the games you mention.

We played them on the 10th April 1948 and this was on the front cover of the Sporting Mirror 6 days later on the 16th April 1948. So you’d have to guess they have taken the pic at the Blades game and a few days later put it on the front cover. Although that’s not Furniss by the looks of it.

Definitely not Furniss or Jackson

Definitely a Blade though. Personally I’m still leaning towards Jackson but just a guess, hard to tell from side profiles because of how little photos there is of players back that especially side profiles. Doubt we’ll ever find out unless some more pics surface of the game or if the player.

I concede that it was a Blade but it cannot be Jackson

You could well be right, out of our team that day and the players we know and have photos of it has to be Jackson for me so far, because it’s definitely not any of the other players that’s my thinking. But then as you say there is Coop, the unknown. Maybe it is him but he was a winger/forward? so wondering if he would be back there by himself doing a last ditch clearance. I’ll see if I can dig a pic up of him from somewhere.
