While I wouldn't be devastated at losing Egan, the bigger issue is losing another leader with Baldock already departing.

Whilst his on field captaincy can be questioned, it's obvious that he is a big influence in the dressing room and someone the young'uns look up to.
The problem we always have is that we are aces at replacing like for like poorly.

Looking back:

  • Warnock to move on? Perhaps. Robson to come in? Neil? Is that you?
  • Decent money for Blackman? Maybe. Jonathan Forte in on loan. FFS.
  • Bye bye Deano. In you come Jostein. What’s up with your wrist?

There’s one for every era.

So, unless Worrall for instance is sat in reception having signed up, we should be keeping Egan and even then, we can still find a place for him as we know Anel will be this summer’s Berge anyway.

Correct, we sell then scramble to replace.

Whereas other clubs sign improvements and THEN sell whoever is excess to requirements.

For some reason it's the way we've always done things.. very backwards.

The issue here, is where would the leaders and those who know the club, come from?

No Baldock, Bash, Egan. We know Wilder loves a culture carrier and it stands for a lot during a period of transition.

By every passing day I don't think Wilder will be here come the start of the season.

“Those who know the club”

Why is this such a big issue? The three you mention had no idea about the club when they joined and things quickly changed in their time with us. We’ve had players who ‘knew the club’ much better than those three who weren’t half as good on the pitch.

It's about an existing collective inducting and then handing over to the next group. Existing characters and leaders are integral to bonding a new group.

So who was that collective before Baldock, Basham and Egan?

There wasn't much worth handing over at that point. We were rebuilding from our lowest ebb in a good few decades. The point being the identity had been lost. But, Sharp, Basham, Coutts, Freeman were amongst that collective.

The identity has been lost this season, even with those players you mention.

The idea of players “knowing the club” is a bit of a nonsense really. Any sort of success is relative to them knowing the manager and how he wants them to play. If that’s successful then the player/fan relationship is always thought of positively.

Will Hoskin to replace Ched 🤣

Bob Hoskins would have been better.

Danny had a couple of goes at it and failed. About the only proper management he has to do that season with the League One galacticos we had!

Michael O’Hanlon
A well past it James Beattie

O’Halloran, very un-PC of me but I used to call him O’Holocaust he was that bad. Made Andy Campbell and Oli Burke look like Messi and Ronaldo.

I have a lot of time for Danny Wilson though so I try not to be too harsh.

Whilst I agree we do still have some...

Egan's not yet gone. Robbo has the fire about him, Arblaster has already been captain but admittedly is young still.

If Hamer doesn't go I can see him growing into more vocal role too like he has done at Coventry too.
Similarly T.Davies if he can stay fit.
Mcburnie if he stays has always been touted as a big character in the dressing room.

Whether it's Wilder or not though we need some good characters along with ability this summer.
Worrall wouldn't be bad in this instance for the champ.

As of today Egan has gone and so had McBurnie. They're no longer under contract and free to sign for anyone without us stopping them.

As one or two others have said on here, I believe he has until Christmas to show the owners he’s the right man

I don’t know whether that is correct, as things change week to week, but allowing some continuity in the middle of all this turmoil sort of makes sense.

if new owners come in i doubt wilder has more than 3 months if were struggling as for egan and mcburnie i would like egan to stay but mcburnie can go for me

Could be 3 months? Could be two months? Who knows if Wilder will get a tune from what effectively will be a new squad?

The point is though, if correct what I’m told, these new owners intend to give him until Christmas and give him a chance to get them competitive.

If it isn’t working I expect the 3 months to be more relevant

I can see both sides of the argument with him staying/going.

Ultimately, my final opinion on the matter hinges on the ownership being sorted and knowing what the plan is. Which goes for quite a lot of things concerned with the club at the moment.
