Basham departing

Forgive me if I’m wrong, but I believe he (along with Baldock) is the last of the players from back when Wilder first took charge in 2017? Not sure if Baldock would count as he was signed by Wilder.

If so, truly the end of an incredible era. IMO he was the biggest success story of the time. He was a player I was happy to see leave when Wilder first took charge, but he carved a place right into the heart of Sheffield United folklore. Mr determination. Mr reliable. Mr consistency.

A wholehearted GLTTL from me. Will always be welcomed back with open arms at Bramall Lane.

Wilder took over in 2016 and only Basham was present.

Baldock signed in 2017 after promotion.

As others have said an absolute legend, the legend word can be used too often but for bash its true, everything about him is top class, a humble man who showed real class. Bash appears the sort of bloke you would want as your best mate and i cant give higher praise than that.

If possible we should try our hardest to keep him around. Help him out with badges if that's the route to go down. I think he would be a great influence off the pitch, he's not done things the easy way.

A lesson on how any player should play, always at 100%.

During his second season I thought Bash is playing well, better than normal. He did it then season after season, that much that he wasn't playing beyond his ability, that was the norm for him. Heart, effort & ability, exactly what we want from our players, give that and we'll support you through anything.

Thanks Bash x

Even though I knew it was coming, even though I knew that injury was his last game for us, it still hurts.

Reality is that without that injury he would likely still have offered us a lot next season, but it’s a cruel game with no room for sentiment.

So, it was a with a heavy heart we finally wave goodbye to a few players that truly have been part of one of the very few successful era’s at the club in terms of league positions.
Fleck
Norwood
Bash
Legend used far too much these days, but these three can be added to that list in my opinion.

Bash should be held up as the most shining example of what being a Pro footballer means…you get the impression he’d have done it for free, and if he leaves the club completely will be a huge loss to the place.
Departures like these really take some replacing, and I’m confident that a fit and firing 3 of them wouldn’t have seen us put together the season we’ve had.

If I had to pick a top 3 of my favourite players in my time watching us (since 1981) I'm fairly sure I'd end up including Bash in there tbh.

I doubt anyone will replace Brian Deane as number 1 but for all the players I've loved over the years, Bash is up there for a variety of reasons.

I'm a sucker for personal traits not just sporting ability. I prefer my sports people to have humility and carry themselves well away from the game too. Bash has been a great ambassador for the club in his time.

I'll even forgive him for some of his ridiculous dives ;)

Everything comes to an end, its such a shame it ended how it did for him but I hope he leaves knowing he is loved by the club and the fans.

I really do also hope that on Sunday his name is sung throughout the game as well as Norwood and Baldock. This is for 2 reasons.

1) to let them know how much we appreciated everything they did, everything they gave for our club
2) I hope this resonates with the rest of the current squad and maybe even those we might look to sign in the summer. If you give your all, you will be adored by us. We joke about Bladey Blades but for some reason I think we take these players to our heart and then don't let go and surely that is a good reason (for some) to play the best they can.

I will be listening to the commentary on sunday and with a couple of beers in me, I expect to be singing away in my living room.

Thanks for everything Bash.

End of an era,a great player and a gentleman

Superb servant to the club & ultimate professional & gent to go with it …to the club .
A rarity in modern times someone being that long at a club which kinda tells you everything about him . Deserves a a massive thx & round of applause on Sunday & will always be welcomed with open arms back at The Lane .
Legend ⚔️⚔️⚔️

Although his career took off when he was converted to a RCB foraging forward the displays he gave in midfield were under estimated. Many times under CW's 3-5-2 he would be moved up into midfield usually to shore up but also to change formation during the game. Its a skill set the manager seems to have lost recently.

One of his finest performances for me came in midfield when we beat the pigs 2-4 on Duffy day. The back 3 that started that day were Carter Vickers, Wright and JOC. He stopped Bannan playing enabling Brooks to flourish further forward of him causing the pigs problems all game.

The saddest moment for me, appalling injury apart was seeing him come on as sub against Newcastle at home this season still trying to run down the wing at 0-8, showing some desire when all around him had thrown the towel in.

A great servant whose fitness and energy levels were outstanding something sadly lacking at SUFC at the moment. If he can't get back into playing football along with JOC he should be the first name on the list to fill any fitness and conditioning vacancies we have. Based on this seasons offerings there should be some jobs available soon.

Come across a good guy and a great player for us. Sad to see hope he returns in back room. 10 years hope he gets a good send off and testimonial 👏🏻⚔️

One of my favourites memories over the last few years. I can't watch that clip (and hear "Basham's Arriving!") without getting goose bumps.

Total Blades legend, gave everything. His potential career-ending injury sums the lad up; team getting battered, throw Basham on, next minute he is storming down towards the opposition box, relentless.

Mrs G has just said that if Chris Basham comes onto the pitch, at the end of the game, to salute the fans, she is going to start crying, I've got a feeling I will be joining her.

Good luck and best wishes to you, Chris Basham.

Legend. Hope he gets the send off he deserves (along with Baldock, Norwood and maybe Egan). Often doubted pre seasons the higher we progressed, but always proved he was more than capable. Thank you.

True legend, glad I’m not able to attend at the weekend because I’d cry if I was there in person.

Best of luck and I hope he overcomes the injury to play at some level for at least a couple more years.

Top Blade.
