We were going to Oldham away during miners strike , when we started seeing coppers we started singing victory to miners etc etc , coppers stopped coach and threatened every fucker , there words not mine with getting nicked , that was without scrapping with anybody FFS
My brother was born, my dad had to work, to get money to look after us, he didn't want to, he had to, this program might educate a few, and they might have a bit of an understanding of some of the stuff I said in earlier posts.....this is how everything started for me, imagine being one of the only kids in a pit village, one the only kids at school who's dad had to work..... you want to know why I say I've fought all my life!!... watch the documentary.

Not Dissing anyone , I would be on other side
But my main gripe would be with that cunt roasting in hell thatcher and her policy’s of smashing whole working class communities to suit the Tory’s greed agenda , look how the last 10 years have gone under there stewardship
Don’t want to go down that route mate as this isn’t the place
But I moved over here in 1981 at the height of the IRA hunger strikes so I can understand your situation, but mine was just a little bit more hairy
Especially having a broad English accent
Seeing all those black flags and tricolours hanging out of peoples windows was a bit frightening , then seeing hunger strike marches every weekend and being afraid to speak
Now that puts hairs on thi chest

Do you sing scabs to Forest? Genuine question. I refuse to.

I've said this in other threads, some people literally HAD to work to keep food on their tables.
A bloke I know got his head caved in because he went to the woods to get wood for the fire (as there was no coal). A neighbour saw him leave early and told the village he was working

I've sung songs at football that include the word scab or scabs, I admit it, its a word that's water off a ducks back, you get like that when you hear it enough.
It's isn't a racial or sexist slur, it's just a word.
My dad started the strike, but had to return to work, as every other miner did, just at different times.

This is very close to mentioning Wanksock Margaret again....

It is toxic masculinity. It's not a trope, doesn't matter when it was or wasn't.

I'm not 'removing myself' from the thread as I want to read it and I actually enjoy reading it and the way others perceive violence and that subculture. My view on that subculture and the stuff posted on this thread is it's a right fucking state.
Nah, if it upsets you so much hearing about it, why are you still here?
We have threads like 'whats your favourite bridge' on here somewhere for people like you.

Didn't realise it was 'old boy' macro aggresive males only allowed to read this thread?

I shall move my bridges post from general chat to the 'wokeflake lefties who don't like mindless, uncontrolled violence' section so as not to offend.

The question was asked about banning orders .
Answered in truth by a few who have had experience and knowledge about things through years and years of being a blade and well travelled.
The guardian and Tony Blair lovers have jumped on board to have their lefties say.
Aha, yes, centrists and leftie bastards with their ability to keep their fists to themselves and use their brains occasionally.

This was a (bit of) a joke by the way - based on the weird and wild generalisation I was replying to.

I know a right wing pacifist and a centrist ex-Para who works in M&A who flips his switch at the first of confrontation. Takes all sorts and is down to the individual.

The reality is this thread has just got a bit silly on all sides.
I'm starting to think one of the main characters might actually be a parody account

I reads this as the above, was gonna keep my wits about me next time I went to get a sarnie :D

I’ve not read it really, but I guess it’s part of our history as a fandom and in that regard it warrants discussion like anything else.
Those involved want to romanticise it and talk about how they defended the club, others think it's a bunch of middle aged blokes who used to get their kicks hurting each other and used football as an excuse

There's deeper conversations about why things happened like they did. But that's not going to happen when those involved will not admit they got off on the violence and those who weren't there just see criminals šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with young lads and even adults wanting to fight - we fawn over boxing, UFC, martial arts and the like. It’s a let off steam scenario which also de-stresses. Football fighting is obviously against the law so it’s frowned upon generally (putting it mildly). I don’t agree with it being solely down to not growing up or that fear plays a big part, obviously in some cases it does, but you probably know (and I know), that some of the people that used to take part in it had well respected jobs/careers and outside of football you wouldn’t even know they were involved in it.

As long as males exist, there will always be fighting. Channeled correctly it’s brilliant but sadly, those opportunities don’t exist to all so football scraps is where it happens.
You've said that opportunity to channel aggression doesn't exist, but you've mentioned boxing,UFC and martial arts, where people can do exactly that.

Uncontrolled violence leads to horrific injuries and deaths. Not only does that destroy families but the taxpayer also has to pay for the fall out when people end up in hospital.

Also, I'm still to see the young person who's aggressive enough to want to be violent regularly but will also not look to start fights with people who don't want any part of it

Without doubt it does. I’m not advocating uncontrolled violence but I can see why lads get mixed up in it. It’s not a new phenomena.

And…you haven’t set foot in a boxing club then. A lot of kids that want to fight regularly are taught discipline in the ring and won’t, on the whole, take their violence outside the ring.
