oxford were one of the favs to win league two this season. top of the league after 3 games.

then they lost about 8 games in a row.
not exactly awe inspiring stuff is it.

I know we don't really know his style of play but his record at Halfax and Oxford appear to be OK.

I am not sure if he is the right one but he is certainly a better option than some being mentioed

An OK record (it isn't really) at non-league Halifax and Oxford befits him to become manager at SUFC? Do you really mean that?

He's fucking rhubarb. So is Morgan. No-one would dream of advocating either if they weren't ex-Blades. It's pathetic; it really is.

I've seen Wilder's Oxford. I don't know what his style is but he's sure as hell not very good at it.

This is Sunday League thinking and I want none of it.

Remind me who John Harris managed before Sheff Utd ,and compare with premiership manager Bryan Robson.

Chester actually and only a couple of years experience.

I think that's a positive. It would be refreshing to have a manager who believe that he can make the team play good, attacking football, rather than going for the safe, defensive options every time key decisions have to be made.

No. It would be refreshing to have a manager who knows he can make the team play good attacking football. If Wilder was any good he wouldn't have spent his entire managerial career (12 years remember - he's no up and comer) at Halifax and Oxford.

I really, really despair at the bollocks some of you come out with. Have a bit of pride and ambition for God's sake!

Speaking of talking bollocks ,have you conjured up a 'witty' nickname for him yet ?

Would you be backing Wilder if he wasn't an ex-Blade? Of course not! No wonder we're in such dire straits with such myopic, pub league thinking.

Wilder has spent 12 years demonstrating his ability to achieve very little at minor clubs. What are the qualities that equip him to manage Sheffield United? Go on, I need a laugh after reading so much drivel.

I'm with pinchy on this one we must aim higher I said on another thread if we go for a Russel slade type wilder is defo in that bracket then we know where we are heading give us a Karl Robinson , Stuart McCall type then maybe we actually having a go but still not sure about this rumour what with social media these days or am I just telling myself this ?

we already have a nickname for him. welcome to the WILDERness years.

is it me or is it odd that we may be going from wilson to wilder.
its almost as if mccabe just went for the next nearest name in his little black book...!

whats howard wilkinson up to these days??

Given the obvious Hollywood link, it has to be:

Wonka Wilder (or some approximation).

The last I heard was that he was still vying for the position of the most arrogant twat ever.

He's a blade, therefore, the best man for the job. No skill required, in fact, it's frowned upon.

Shame he passed Wenger by in his book then isn't it.

We can aim as high as we like but we will still end up shooting ourselves in the foot if McCabe is picking the next Manager.

As for Social Media, why would you watch/look/listen? Its 99% shit for 1% fact. A bit like a messageboard......oh.

The Oxford chairman has denied that they've received an approach from United. Is there some mischief-making going on?

You need to calm down. There are positives and negatives connected with any appointment. If Wilder tries to get his team playing good attacking football that is better than if he was thought to be negative and one dimensional.

He just doesnt want Wilder because he cant think of a 'funny' enough nickname to hang round his neck like MacCawful or Colin :(

all of this former blades nonsense is doing my head in
Pinchy is right on this one. if he wasn't a former blade he wouldn't get the time of day

If we appoint chris wilder a manager who has trod water with oxford for 6 years , I will finish my association with the club out of despair for having not just little ambition , but an insult to our past, our blind loyalty and giving us no hope of a future at all .

A sign you have been a blade too long

I suspect Chris is a lovely bloke with the blades at heart , but its not what we desperately desperately need right now, that is someone whos achieved things , promotionS emphasis on the plural

I've been calm for 50 years mate. It's time for a bit of focused anger. I'm starting with useless managers and parochial, one dimensional supporters who can't see past the club badge.

I've only just calmed down after they dumbed down the club badge and got rid of the sheaf :-)

Heres another trend thats cost us dearly over the years

Deane
Fjortoft
Walker
Beattie J
Blackman
Agree with all of them apart from Blackman, think we missed miller much more than Blackman. Would add naughton and lowton to that list too

It's fair to say there are positives and negatives to any appointment - but let's be honest here - Chris Wilder would be an absolute measure of our fall into obscurity, rather than a calculated judgement of an appointment.

He "might" prove to be a good manager, in the same way as you might. There is insufficient evidence to make a decision on either of you - so why take that risk?

Sadly, in this case it would be because he's cheap, available and Pinchy is right, a Blade. Nothing else.

I'm just highlighting the folly of selling your top strikers at the wrong time and all the goals that go with them. I'm quite sure that Blackman, had he not been sold, would have exceeded Kitsons tally of 12!

If we just take a cold hearted look at what stats & performance.

What has Wilder done to prove he can win us promotion?

Does anyone know his stats?

A poor record compared to wilson. At least he took the dingles into the premiership even if it was almost 20 years ago, may as well have stuck with him

I like many was bemused that evening last month when the news broke that Wilson would be sacked. The key thing at the time was what thought had been given to who would replace him. I thought maybe Warnock is on his way back, appen Owen Coyle.

Soon it transpired that all that had happened was that the two most experienced and knowlegeable guys were leaving and Morgan would stand in. It might have worked, possibly, but it didn't and I'm not suprised.

Then I thought there must be a contingency plan. If that turns out to be Chris Wilder then I along with others will be disappointed simply because there is no evidence that he is as good as what we had before, thats all, nowt against Wilder.

When Wilson was appionted, despite all the crap at the time I could see the logic, he got the team working and did well but it went to bits at the end of his second season. He was guilty of poor dealings in the loan market, bad luck with injuries and maybe not introducing more kids earlier.
There is no logic to replacing Wilson with either Morgan or Wilder.

How about lets just give the new manager a bit of support and wait and see? It may or not be a good appointment time will tell. However if we appoint Smegson forget what I have put.
