It's funny how you predicted automatic promotion and then play off success last year, and you were wrong.

This year you have predicted automatic promotion and playoff success...

So we all go thinking were fucked, and expect the worst as the norm , dont think thats the point in football
Ill say this about Wednesday fans , dont think they ever go into games like some of our fans do
We do have the most morose self defeating fans in Christendom, a bunch of manic depressives who wallow in self pity
We could make money and lecture in negativity

We could start euthanasia early by having some of our fans working at the Samaritans
They fucking depress me

So the good news is if it's Brentford either someone will score for the first time in a final or its 0-0 again. Could be that Spielberg epic "Penalty nightmare returns" starring?
Brentford easy, they will be heart broken and will be like us last season. Also we did alright after losing our top scorer and then missing out on the Autos

id love to know how swindon have only won once, despite winning twice, just cos they were denied promotion through financial stuff. convenient logic at its finest?

I agree that Swindon should be counted as having won twice, and if you're into conspiracy theories you may also note that the list mysteriously begins from 1990 (despite the play-offs having taken place since 1987). This results in Swindon's 1987 play-off final victory also being excluded...

It's right up there with the 'man on the moon'.

;)

It's a written like too, but you've got to admit that through the ages and certainly over the last 40 years the club have contributed a lot too to its fans thinking like that through. I mean did we really think we would go down at Chelsea and fail to stay up against Wigan when Man Ure were playing West Ham?

Not sure we are evening going to get to the final this time.

I think the team is on its arse and we will struggle over the 2 legs.

Yep - that's correct - so it was a final of sorts only the prize for us was not to go down and the the prize for Brizzle was to replace us - of course, we lost. 2-1 at their place and 1-1 at home - my one and only visit to Ashton Gate that first leg. I think Carl Shutt (ex Pig) scored for them at the Lane - Darren will come along with dates, times, scorers, corrections, inside leg measurements etc. It's what he does. :)

We lost 1-0 at Ashton Gate. We looked as likely to score as we do currently! The atmosphere was warlike to say the least!

Colin Morris equalised for us at The Lane followed by much futile huffing and puffing and down we went!

Ah but there is also a small grouping of anti- pedants who will sporadically drop in an erroneous fact just to see which pedant corrects it first.....

The phrase 'erroneous fact' is a contradiction in terms. You surely mean erroneous 'fact'?

FACT.

Yep. 1-0 it was. Darren reminded me earlier.
I used to remember all this shit like it was yesterday but now I have to rely on the likes of Darren and pinchy to make me look like a bumbling idiot (now there's an open goal that only the current team could blow).

'twas indeed a venomous atmosphere at Ashton Gate that evening. The natives were restless and the Blades team pretty hapless.

Here's another one for you two. Am I correct in that we have never won an away leg in a play off semi final?
Makes you think how important a result is Friday night doesn't it?

:o

.

Yes, we have never won an away leg (drawn 4 lost 2).

On the other hand, we are unbeaten at home (won 4 drawn 2).

one was a winning draw at ipswich

Well quite. Of the six away legs we have played, only the defeats at Bristol City and Sunderland can be counted as "bad" results.

In the other 4 occasions, the away leg was second, and we did enough to go through (Ipswich), or the away leg was first, and a draw was a good result (Forest, PNE, Stevenage)

Conversely, the 2 home draws are very bad results meaning that we were either relegated (Bristol City) or had to go away and get a result (Ipswich) - the fact that we got the 2-2 draw at ipswich doen`t make teh home leg a good result. Of the 3 wins, the only one I came out of pessimistic was the 2-1 win over sunderland, as I felt we needed a 2 goal lead to take to the SoL, the other three wins resulted in us going through (Forest, PNE and Steveange) and thus are clearly "good" results.

It's quite possible for us to go through this year and not improve our away play-off record. Always a bit misleading 2 legged affairs when comparing Home and Away as you aren`t ever comparing Apples with Apples.

huddersfield last year won the away leg at mk dons 3-1 but lost at home1-2
we became the first club not to concede a goal in the play offs and not go up
my personal thoughts are the play off should be 1 game semi at the home club of the 3rd and 4th placed clubs with no penalties , the home team going through on final place standing if its a draw, rewarding the work done in the league campaign, the same in the final highest final standing counting after 120 minutes

In future any team in third finishing 3matches , 9 points ahead of 4th should nulify the use of play offs

I agree 100% with the play off format you're suggesting! How can we start a petition?

Anyone for first team this year not to score a goal and go up?

Let's look at a few facts:
The record of the four play-off teams' last five games (most recent first) is:

Brentford LDDWW (8 points)
Yeovil LWLWW (9 points)
Swindon LWWLL (6 points)
SUFC DLLDW (5 points)

Yeovil have the best record over 5 games, but lost two out of their last 3.
Brentford will be smarting from missing out against Donny. They also failed to win any of their last 3 games.
Swindon have lost 3 out of 5
Blades are rubbish.

All of which proves very little. Blades to win promotion, then....

Wasn't there some 'riot' after the game ('riot' = blades fans going a bit ape and a little bit of the afters with the local yoof)?

It was kicking off before, during and after. I wasn't close to any particular incident but it generally felt a bit like Beirut at the height of the troubles!

Every little helps, to be fair i think stop Madden you'll stop them but we struggled to do that a few months back.

They outfought us in every area in that game. Hopefully we've learned from that and know better what to expect. If their centre halves are out they may be struggling for height in central defence, which should mean Kitson/Porter can dominate more.

Pinchy was that the time some animal was let out of the zoo or another incident with our Bristolian 'friends'?
