The more i think about it the game today really should have gone ahead. They put a lot of it down to safety reasons which is bollocks nowadays we are health and safety gone mad as Toronto rightly said on another post they never cancel ice hockey games in canada for snow outside the stadium and they get a damn sight more snow then us. By 10am the main roads were fine and clear which means getting to BDTBL would have been fine plus no doubt quieter due to the weather. As for the pitch we should have had a cover on since the forecast plus plenty of ground staff to do the clearing up.

Is there anything i have missed??

To be fair Sheffield isn't prepared to deal with deep snow,I doubt they are equipped with brine trucks, sand salters or many snow plows.the main highway through toronto is 14 lanes wide they just have snowploughs in a conga line across the lanes and and clear it in no time.
In the NHL they don't worry about visiting fans as their aren't many of them due to the distance involved teams and fans have to travel by plane.

I live in Stannington and wouldn't have travelled to the game if it was on. Right decision to call it off. Yes we have more games to play but safety of all is the main thing. What about the players getting there?

yes mate.. not all of us live 5 miles from the ground

It was bad here 1.3 miles away as the crow flies, would have been trudging down in boots.

As frustrating as it is for everyone involved, was 100% the correct decision.

Reasons why the game should not have gone on.

It snowed a lot. Our road was certainly not totally clear by 10:00. There would have been many people unable to make it walking.

We're not Canada. They have lots of snow every winter in Canada, and are used to it. Lots of 4x4s on the roads. Here, we might have snow, we might not, and so there's not the same mentality. Ice hockey rinks also tend to be indoors, so there's little need for pitch inspections to see if it's playable.

As Foxy says, postponing it was the only sensible option.

Correct. At the mo. at Lodge Moor (9.30 LST) it's -3, nothing has moved down the main roads and I doubt if tomorrow will be much different.

You forgot to blame McCabe.

Armchair/keyboard critics. Don't ya just love 'em?

No more 4x4s on the road than in the UK in my experience (a lot of the SUV's are two wheel drive - i've been trying to buy one with AWD). People are more used to getting around in the snow (obviously), but the canucks round here are moaning about it still being cold (mind it got up to 20 deg C weekend before last).

Reasons why this game should have been on:

1. davidpinder had fuck all else to do yesterday

Er, that's it.

i was working yesterday anyway just think more could have been done i have been to BDTBL in worse conditions than that back in the late 80's early 90's. You'll all be there criticising when we don't go up blaming anyone and everyone, players can't be expected to play 4 games in 8 days and thats whats going to happen.

If we don't get promoted I'll be blaming the failure to beat the likes of Hartlepool as the reason.

Why was Meadowhell allowed to open with the prospect of a much larger crowd than us?

No snow in east Sheffield?

This is an extremely cromulant point...football seems to be treated as a differently whereas it really shouldn't be.

But Highbury is right losing 3 on trot at home against weaker opposition is what will do us.

That sort of result happens to all clubs highbury playing 4 games in 8 days will seriously harm our chances

I am fucking sick of the victim mentality this club has. When we're close but ultimately fail to get promoted, or avoid relegation, it always sees to be there's something lese that casued our downfall.

Hans Segers in 94, Tevez in 2007, Ched last year, fixture pileup this year.

In all of those years, we had the opportunity to not be in that situation come the end of that season, but through our own fuck-ups we blew it

As true as that is I challenge you to name another club with such a history of poor fortune in these sort of situations...

Cool. Raulito is going there (English)/ headed thattaway (Colonial) on Thursday.
