Hard to judge against city tbh, like us be happy to play them early then get on with the season. Bit suprised Brownhill didn't play, maybe we should put a cheeky bid in for him just to stir up a bit of pressure on Burnley,?!

Just a thought for all the fans who were telling us all on here that selling a financially valuable player in the last year of his contract who had no intention of renewing with us and who wanted to see what his options were in 9 months so he could walk out and take a huge signing on bonus.... Without this sale we don't bring in Hamer.

So we have a demotivated Berge trying to avoid injury and going through the motions before leaving for zip, or we get in £15m and use that to sign up a better player in Hamer and tie him down to a 4 year contract helping future proof us. Mmhhh difficult one.

The club was absolutely correct in moving Berge on and no he wasn't being used by the club so all this nonsense about being used by the club was just that. The club did what it needed to do. That's what matters to me, not Sander Berges bank balance and career (much as I like the lad).

I hear Berge got so lost on the pitch at Turf Moor last night that he couldn't find his way out of the ground...

The stubborn canvas for my voyage prepar'd--
Though now 'tis tatter'd; leaving my bark bar'd
And sullenly drifting: yet my higher hope
Is of too wide, too rainbow-large a scope,

Little known fact, but John Keats was a big Blade.

He lived on the Arbourthorne for several years and oddly, always preferred John Smiths, to Wards. Takes all sorts, I suppose,

I won't slander Sander, never really burst into being the £20m talent we thought we'd bought and frustrated with his injury record but he stuck around and did his bit to get us back to the Prem and was clearly happy to do so. Came in at such a strange time for us, too, looking like we were going to be a rock solid Prem outfit for a bit before all the covid nonsense and the behind-doors calamity season. I reckon we've probably been touting his services for a while now but to get £12m back, essentially paying a fee of £8m for his services for three and a half seasons and securing our next big midfielder, is surprisingly shrewd business for the clowns usually in charge of our transfer negotiations.

When you look at it now . We've sold 2 and bought 6 now
1 of those 2 Berge for me we have done a big upgrade on . Hamer has a proper engine in him. He drives teams forward and Berge was not a good header of the ball and had the tendancy to drift out of games,as shown at turf Moor last night..
Ndiaye is a loss for us .but to me he chose poorly. He was being educated by us.he was learning really well. Now he's expected to produce and so far looks to be a bit lost. Some players need nurturing
and Ndiaye is one of those

We have yet to get our 2 loan players in and think Hecky has earmarked 3 more at least
We should be up for the fight as we cover losing Ndiaye and we can survive come next May

A few choice comments from their post match ratings:

"Disappointing a few have suggested Berge isn’t fit … wonder if they haven’t been training yet at Sheffield for the start of the season."

"Berge 5 - offered some good touches but completely ran out of steam and was poor out of possession"

"Berge..6 jury out atm.. Some decent bits, but a lot of James Oconnor-esque stuff running 5 yards behind the opposing midfield, and not as physical as you'd expect from such a unit."

In fairness, most are saying it's an unfair game to judge him against which I'm inclined to agree with. Barely a couple of days to bed into a new squad and then doing 90 minutes against Man City? Yeah, alright pal. Maybe Kompany thought he could snatch a few moments with Haaland during the game and ask him to go easy. General consensus seems to be they think he'll be good, needs time to adapt and needs to "get fit".

You can stop apologizing for him now.

He is this generation’s South Stand, an expensive mistake.

He is the product of looking at Data, rather than watching him play.

Data says, 6,5, strong, quick, good first touch, good passing range, eye for goal. Potential world beater

Watching him play says Nesh

Out of possession, alway 5 yard behind play, never gets close to his man, never puts in a block.

Worst header of a ball I have ever seen, at professional level

In possession will 95% of the time defer to others, to make the hard pass or take on a man

Finally and the one I found most perplexing, he did not like the cold. If it was a cold wet away game, you could guarantee he would go missing. I lost count the number of times I would have to check the team sheet after 20mins to make sure he playing

Over the 3 and a half season he put together a lot of great moments.

But he never put together a great game.
Absolutely clueless

Will be interesting to see how they play him against a lesser opposition. He’d have played like that for us against Man City, he’s not as good as Rodri, it showed 🤷🏻‍♂️

Some very immature & childish comments about Sander here, like a teenager ditched by his bird for a better looking kid.

Very surprised he started as he just doesn't know his team mates at all yet, yes he didn't see a lot of the ball but he held shape well despite Burnley chasing shadows for most of the game. Very obvious in the last half an hour that his team mates were not passing to him when he was an obvious pass too, and he did fade as the game got older.
Just don't get why people feel the need to stick the boot in for the tiniest thing, leave him be & concentrate on our players, you know, the ones in red & white.

The time to judge will be at end of season, reality is despite all of our opinions a prem team decided he was good enough and a manager who clearly knows his stuff decided he was good enough, and a manager who knows his stuff in Hecky clearly thought he was good enough and wanted to keep him

I was amused to see the camera focus on Berge when Burnley got a corner assuming he'd be the target man in the air. He's lost in the defensive midfield role. He's good running at defences and can pick a pass. Contributes a few goals. But will disappear in games especially if the going gets tough. A luxury player in some respects. Not what you need in a relegation scrap which I think Burnley will be in. The Kompany honeymoon is over.

Burnley Fans are doing exactly what we did, making assumptions about his style of play and strengths based on his appearance. You'd think the scouts and analysts Burnley are using aren't doing the same but who knows. Berge's problem sometimes seems to be that he isn't built to be the kind of footballer he wants to be or thinks he is so he ends up this non-committal mixture of playing styles.

Not sticking any boot in .he just didn't impose himself in the game.
Doesn't matter if its man city or Luton it doesn't mean you can't close down or tackle or pick a pass.. In the first half there were times when City clearly gave the ball away but Burnley didn't take advantage. You have to rattle them and they didnt

He’s poo poo.

The penny's dropping. Let him be a passenger at someone else's club. Doubt he'll have as many apologists there.
Usually has a couple of runs wi ball in a game, didn't even have that yesterday complete waste of space as I've been saying for the last 3 years. We've taken decent money off Burnley and made them weaker.

Yeah exactly. When he signed for us he did say it was pronounced 'bear geh' but everyone that I know just called him Burger. In the cringeworthy Burnley announcement video he actually said it was pronounced 'Berj'.

Maybe I'm getting too worked up about it but if he was my son telling people to pronounce his name wrong I'd be pretty embarrassed.
My surename is Sætre. You'd never get it right. I couldn't care less what people called me in England as long as I could gather it was me being addressed, and it would be practical if everybody used roughly the same. I think that would be the case for most Scandinavians. If Berge had insisted on people pronouncing his name with a Norwegian accent I'd be embarrassed.

Well said Settee

I'm assuming not pronounced as in Jean Paul Sartre.

It's more the fact he told us how to pronounce it and then told Burnley fans to say it with the wrong pronunciation.

It's not like the correct pronunciation of Berge is that hard or weird.

I doubt Haaland would let people say his name wrong.

Like I say, I'm probably looking into it to much. I've no doubt half our fanbase will continue to pronounce Hamer wrong n all.

Just seen Gus Hamer's really decent fairwell message to Coventry fans, always think that's important when a player leaves a club where they've had a big impact. I haven't seen one for Sander but I'm not on Twitter, Instagram etc, I recall he said "Once a Blade, always a Blade"? Was that it or was there more I've missed? If there wasn't one it makes me wonder if he left on a sour note, and/or the rumours he was forced out were a factor; hope not.

My cousin lives in Sweden and he's told me some of the words in Swedish and how difficult they are to pronounce for English people; he is Australian born but effectively English saying that and he's managed. The one I remember was Gothenburg which I believe is pronounced something like Jota-boreh?!

Of course that's Swedish not Norwegian but I presume there's similarities?! I also read that Norwegian is the easiest language for English people to learn!? Not sure I believe that!

Can I ask is Jostein Flo pronounced as Jostein Flu as once famously said on Match of the day and how on earth Fjortoft is said I have no idea - I just prefer legend! Maybe legend a bit top heavy but only because he didn't stay long enough, when he was here he was just a delight to watch.

Back to Berge and wondering has there been any revelations of why Berge joined Burnley and/or wouldn't sign a new contract with us, as there's been very little in the English media over the years. Sorry there's a few questions above!

Can’t remember where I saw it but I saw something, possibly bbc app, where he did leave a nice message, mentioned how he will always remember the fans singing his song to him at palace and how loved playing at the lane to rocking atmospheres

Admittedly the last bit did make me wonder lol but maybe it sounds different on pitch than in stands
