Incoming? Only one in before Palace

I can't believe we're going to start a premier league season with Osula or Jebbision in contention for a starting place

Big opportunity for one of them (or both), I guess. Need to get their contracts sorted as 3 or 4 starts at PL level will boost their asset value no end, regardless of result.

I know that better deals may come later in the transfer window, but we're still acting like a lower half Championship club feeding off scraps doing our business at the last minute.

For once it'd be great if we did our business early so we could integrate the new signings in ready to kick off the season at full strength, it's even more frustrating because we have some winnable fixtures in August.

I don't think that's accurate. I don't recall anyone saying we were only after 2x perm. There was a lot of talk about 20m being the budget but not a definitive number of personnel

It was Darren that said it wasn't it?

A big opportunity for them (I'm also available if they want, and it would be really big for me), but it's an enormous indication of the current state we're in.

Is it worth getting Sharp in on a short-term deal? I’m joking, a bit…

So as it stands before the new season starts, with us having a head start in terms of time on the competition, this is the squad:

Wes / Davies
Baldock / Bogle
Lowe / Larouci / RND
Anel / Bash
Egan /
JLT /
Norwood / Berge
Slimane /
Fleck / Osborn
Traore /
McBurnie / Brewster / Jebbo / Osula

Look... I'll back Hecky and the boys with all I've got. But this from a 'board level' perspective is unacceptable!

I don't think so. There would've been uproar on here for a start! haha
Post #293 on this thread shows one of the Tweets from Darren saying we were aiming to get four players in. There were others that were more specific about it

He’ll have a visa he can’t enter the country without one so as soon as he’s here he can train.

My understanding was that it was the issuing of a visa (not a work permit) that was holding things up, on account of long-standing delays at UKVI.

I think Linz posted about this, among others? Very happy to be wrong!

The numbers Darren mentions make sense.

We need to bring in a CB (cover), LCB, CM, LCM, AM. We probably should bring in a CF too.
And I still think we will (and should) probably sell Berge, so he will also need replacing.

Giving out contracts to Osborn and Fleck make 100% sense in hindsight, god knows who'd be starting in midfield if we'd released them.

Will McBurnie or Jebbison be fit in a couple of weeks? Are we going for Osula up top? I’m assuming the 1 will be Traore, unless there’s an issue with that - hoping not. (EDIT - didn’t realise Traore had signed formally)

Frustrating as Palace and Forest are two games we need to try and get something out of.

Isn’t that 1-5

Ah, this was Mr Smith saying that he expected 4 in 'at that time'. Not that it was 4 for the window full stop. We got 3 of the 4. We was still expecting more movement, there was the 2x loans if nothing else.

The suggestion at the start of the window was that we were getting two permanent and two on loan so the latest suggestion in your OP would include greater movement and what must be an enhanced budget.
I thought it was:
1. LCB - loan to buy
2. LWB - loan to buy
3. CM - perm
4. CF - perm
5&6. + 2 PL loans.

+ replace anyone that leaves.

It seems we have signed Larouci as per requirement 1 and Slimane as requirement 3 along with Traore for 4.

Frontrunner for 1 appears to be Trusty.

We’ll now need a replacement for Ndiaye and 2 PL loans to along with Slimane, effectively replace the Doyle, McAtee and Khadra acquisitions from last season.

If Darren says 5 then that is one added. Maybe budget means we can upgrade more?

I can’t see the reasoning behind selling Berge. If so we really have very limited Prem experience this season.

Is he allowed to train, if he still doesn't have a visa?
Yes, but not with us.
If he hasn't got a visa he won't get in the country.
However it was recently reported that his visa is sorted and he (reportedly) just had to go to his local visa office to pick up his passport
"United now hope there is some light at the end of the tunnel. Speaking after Saturday’s 3-1 friendly victory over Derby County at Pride Park, which saw Traore miss out again, Heckingbottom admitted: “I could be 100 per cent off on this but Tom Little has been in touch with Benie and he says he should have his passport today. If that’s the case, and he has, we will get him on a flight [on Sunday]."

If Darren says 5 more then it's two more added as it would be 8 in total instead of 6.

Same thing he’ll be applying for a sportsperson visa. For which he just needs an endorsement letter from the FA and then to pass an English language test looking at the rules. It’s likely been the English language test holding things up like Linz said given all the students will be wanting to sit them at this time of year. Either that or he might’ve had problems getting his passport scanned.

That visa would give him right to enter the UK and the right to work with certain conditions. Only other way he could get into the UK would be on a visit visa but he won’t have applied for one of those.

I mean, with how transfers work nowadays, especially for us, there's probably zero chance of spending any of the funds from illy's move before the Palace game. I'd also read the tweet as 1 in before the Palace game (Trusty) and possibly 5 before end of the window. With a caveat of more than 5 signings if we were to sell anyone else.

Just stay off the booze until the team for palace is announced. just in case.

As I've said, further details were provided elsewhere. Either way it was suggested we'd only be getting 2 permanents unless players were sold so I'm not sure why you were expecting more that what is now being said.
