Do the club not anticipate any issues when the AFCON comes around and we lose half our first team squad for a month?

Er, did it not say upthread that he was playing for France's U21's? Are we suddenly expecting him to declare for Algeria instead?

Why are people being disparaging about Preston being competition. We're offering a loan with view to make permanent, as PNE may be offering a full permanent cash up front deal. With our reduced budget, we're taking some chances to avoid any pound spent we can - sometimes they'll work out, sometimes they won't.

Quality player.

What we saying T-Blade - is Norbert Hummingbird on to something here? ;)

Edit: Just seen that our bid was rejected and he's off elsewhere :(

Never seen this guy but fits the bill. Young, u21 squad of best nation in the world, ex-Liverpool, potentially high ceiling and big sell on value (assuming we sign/option to sign at a low price).

It’s concerning that we’ve missed out on the centreback because someone’s paid a fee that’s going to be the problem with trying to do these loan to buy deals anyone offering a fee upfront will leapfrog us. That said he’s a good player and I hope we get him.

Because some folk just hunt out any possible reason (no matter how tiny) to put a negative spin on any given subject. It's like a habit/obsession. Best just to ignore them.

Good scout report on him.

The concern would be that he's not a particularly strong defender and PL teams are quite good at pinning wing backs back and not allowing them to progress (which are his strengths).

Seemingly has a lot of pace and running ability though, so may offer something different to our current options.

Another though, that I'm not sure you look at as an instant upgrade coming in - see Slimane and Traore as other examples.
With us losing Doyle, McAtee and possibly Ndiaye.. it's hard to see how we're going to even be a better side than the one that finished last season strongly. Never mind ready to compete well in the PL.

You think he'd be understudy to Max Lowe?

Solely a LWB. He is very quick as well, very quick! he's wanting to play for Algeria, apparently they are going to call him up to the full national side soon, unsure if he's already changed the nationality and how long that takes? He's improved defensively, he's had to playing in a lower level team. Similar to what we will be this season. He still needs to improve on that side of his game, going forward is the better side of his game.
You obviously know a lot about this guy but looking at these clips he doesn’t strike me as lightning quick. Also if he does change his footballing nationality to Algeria and we do sign him we might end up relying on our youth team to get us through the African Nations time frame.

Not the finest of highlight reels.
We are very much going down the 'rough diamonds' route. This could be a longer season than I imagined at first. Or, it might not, have to wait and see. No doubt me saying that will have people saying I'm 'pork'.

What's up with Ryan Manning is my first question? If we go down then we've got one of the very best LWB in the league. He's literally free. It's bizarre.

He is very very quick, defensively he'd worry me a little in the prem, but than can be worked on, saw a fair bit of him last season, I'd be pretty happy if this came off, definite upgrade on lowe

Exceptionally one footed to almost tiny Ben standards! Not convinced, quite a lot of wayward crosses for a highlights reel - still its the market in which we are shopping...

The club have landed on a transfer strategy that they think makes great sense.
Ryan Manning doesn't fit into it.

If he looks defensively weak in the French division what are the likes of Bernardo Silva and Saka going to do to him?

'They think' being the key words
I'm not sure how a loan from Troyes is better than a perma signing of one of the stellar players from the divison we are likely to be in next season. But I bow to the 'superior' knowledge of Bettis and co.

The french ligue 1 is nowhere near as bad as you think, and he was by far and away the best player in an awful awful side

Interesting. I actually was fine with it because it's not a minimal market for us. The level we're looking at means there should be quite a few alternates and the loan to buy really mitigates the risk on our side.
I do think we'll convert a lot of these loans to buy even if we go down, because that's the level we're buying, but it means we can make the call when we know the position we're in financially next year.

Bar the top end it's crap. And even they can't compete with the best teams in europe - including PSG. It's dropped down the power rankings to 6th.

How do you know it's crap? How often do you watch games there?
