Silent I’m always impressed with your memory, but the greatest memory minds in the world wouldn’t remember everything. So how do you do it? I’m assuming scrap books and notepads/diary’s, if so how many years were you taking notes? Must be a great source of historical material when it comes to the Blades.

Am interested in Blades history. I have Blades history books (most of them written by Denis Clareborough and Andrew Kirkham). Just one scrapbook (1970-71) that I bought from a jumble sale a few years ago. My memory of Blades matches this century is nowhere as good as it was for between 1970 and 1975. In the last few years I have started going to the Sheffield Library again to look at match reports between 1961 and 1975. From next month I will be starting threads for 1963-64 (HodgysBrokenThumb stopped going to matches regularly because at the time he was playing football regularly on Saturday afternoons so I will be "taking over" his 60 years ago thread), 1968-69 (55 years ago) and 1973-74 (50 years ago) seasons. I will be posting match reports of these three seasons and hope some posters in here will reply to the match reports what they remembered about the matches.

were any of you lads at the september derby at the lane in 1967 against wednesday ? i know ronnie sharpe has a piece on it in his book bad result thanks to ritchies far post header but what an eventful day that was 😳😬

I have no recollection of this match whatsoever. We lost 4-0 at St Mirren? Really? Jeez, 1979 must have been even worse than I remember it......
I was on the only organised ‘Official Supporter’s Club’ coach that made the trip up that night - 7hrs travel each way if I remember correctly😳.
I must’ve been effin stupid - but major bragging rights since then - isn’t that right, Alan and Gary Maw?😉

of all the matches to miss at a wedding reception at omega psalter lane heard that was another day west ham got their arses kicked on the shoreham
My best man Robert Jones got married on that very same day

Owlerton as it was called at the time. They decided to change the name to Hillsborough in 1914.
love the wiki history of Hillsbro
it states they bought it in 1898 after being told olive grove was needed for expansion of the railways
and they just levelled off the field which was a grazing meadow ( for pigs no doubt) but it was Miles outside the city boundary

it also mentioned about the disaster the ground hadnt had a safety certificate for a decade, which I didnt know

It's probably just about died out by now but Bert can remember when many of them still called it Owlerton.

My dad born in 1922 always referred to it as Owlerton.

I don't know why but I always thought the name change happened in 1966 for the World Cup.

was brought up on the shirecliffe estate and owlerton was always the dog or speedway track stadium to me once had a kick about with don and gary megson when wednesday juniors used to play saturday mornings behind the stadium
