He can't cover the ground n'er mind covering for another player.
He's been a great servant over the years but he's basically just going to be filling a shirt that could/should have gone to a younger player who could be useful in a promotion push.
No promotion for us next season mate ;)
As a backup he is a known quantity. If he plays like he did last few games, then maybe. Otherwise....

25 players for The Premier League. We currently have 18 and that includes 7 players who have never started a game for us. The reason Osborn and Fleck haven't signed yet is obviously as they've been offered a contract on low wages and been told they will be squad fillers.
Think u21s aren't included in the PL 25 man squad aswell.

Slightly surprised all 3 got new offers but think about it, if we let Fleck, Osborne and Coulibaly go we'd only have 2 midfielders left at the club. Arblaster would be a third I guess.
Arblaster is the future. Should have been played more last season before he was I’ll.

Do we really want a 32 or 33 year old Jack Robinson at the club?!

2 would be the maximum, but I'd look to 1 + 1.

His pace will get increasingly exposed.

It's not Robinson's pace on his own. It's Robinson's lack of pace directly next to Egan's lack of pace that is the concern here. I'm fine offering him an extension as cover, but if we're starting him in August we're fucked

List niffs of a club adrift without any clear sense of direction.
Offering Fleck a contract is both bizarre and worrying as assuming relegation is pretty much assured he isn't going to be good enough for a promotion push. Feels like just another body to make up the numbers.
Derby's record could well be under threat.
🥱

No doubt but the fact they're seeing Fleck as cover in the first place is the problem both short and long term.

I tend to agree although his poor performances last season may well have been exaggerated by his injury and never really regaining match fitness. Conversely to several others, I thought his best performance of the season was at Wembley where he was neat on the ball and quick to close down the opposition.

Tbf I'd much prefer he be retained for LCM cover than Osborn who whilst able to play several positions, does so poorly in all of them.

If you look at the makeup of the squad under contract it's not surprising we've made offers to keep Fleck and Osborn around. There's a real lack of senior midfielders while we'd currently be relying on Norrington-Davies hitting the ground running at LCB and Lowe staying fit at LWB to even name a left side of the defence without chucking Buyabu in at the deep end.

Currently under contract, named as "first-team" and would need to be named in the PL squad to play:
5 GKs Foderingham, Davies, Eastwood, Amissah, Dewhurst
7 DFs Ahmedhodzic, Baldock, Basham, Bogle, Egan, Lowe, Norrington-Davies
3 MFs Berge, Coulibaly, Norwood
4 FWs Brewster, McBurnie, Ndiaye

Currently under contract, named as "first-team" but classed as U21:
Arblaster, Brooks, Buyabu, Jebbison, Osula, Sachdev

Currently under contract, named as "development squad" but would need registering:
Boyes, Neal

Dont think they have to be named in the 25 players squad as they came through our Academy
They do but they count towards the minimum 17 home grown players rule. At the moment, only Coulibaly, Ndiaye and Berge definitely fail on that; Ahmedhodzic might sneak in based on his time at Forest.

Zak Brunt’s dad still about? Warra man! Not as prickly as Slater’s but still comes on and raised his fists!

fucking sell em all and start the kids init. Seriki better than Baldock hahaha

Agree with this. It's pretty obvious we have offered Fleck and Osborn a drastically reduced wage which is why they haven't signed yet. All you are doing if you buy to replace them is paying out money for a squad player who isn't good enough to start. We don't have the budget to do that whilst also trying to strengthen the first team. I don't think either are good enough but I also understand why we've offered them a deal to fill out the squad. People may say they'd rather throw in the young lads but that could seriously harm their development if they badly struggle

Then they won’t sign it. The least you’d want is 2.

I'd say Osborn is definitely worth a contract given our financial situation. He can play a number of positions and is peak age. Very handy to have around, but he might want regular football. He seems to have a fair few things going on off the pitch, I wouldn't be surprised if he goes back to Derby.

While I admit I don't know what goes on behind the scenes at the club (or any club, for that matter), I really would have preferred that SUFC honoured Billy Sharp, the player, the Blades legend, and the man that he is, by saying something like, "...with his desire for definite first team football, and guaranteed game time, Billy Sharp and Sheffield United Football Club have sadly come to a mutual agreement that Billy will be leaving the club, to continue his career elsewhere, the club would like to thank Billy......", etc., etc.

Instead, we just have his name on the "released" list. Like he doesn't mean anything.

Just me, I know, but that has really got to me.

"Boyhood Blade Billy Sharp, along with double promotion winning duo Jack O'Connell and Enda Stevens, head the list of those who will leave the club this summer, with plans currently being held behind the scenes to give the trio the send offs they deserve from S2, having written themselves into the history of the club with their exploits on the field in red and white.

Re-signed by Nigel Adkins in the summer of 2015, Sharp has enjoyed some stunning times during his third spell at the Lane. Appointed captain by Chris Wilder, the now 37-year-old scored 30 goals in the record-breaking League One title success, before netting a further 24 times as the Blades secured a remarkable return to the Premier League in 2018/19.

In the top-flight, Sharp netted the first goal of the campaign in the draw at Bournemouth and the final goal before lockdown struck in a home victory over Norwich City. Last term, the popular skipper made 45 appearances in all competitions, netting three goals."

My full apologies, I have just seen a list of names.
