He was the worst opposition player at Bramall Lane all last season

They were already Champions with nothing to play for. He was considered good enough backup for Fulham, the best team in the league only last season.
I'm not saying I want him here to start but I'd feel more comfortable with him in reserve than nobody, or Gordon.

The last time I saw them both play only one of them was so bad I almost felt sorry for him. That was a huge game for him, last chance to put himself on the market. He was, as an individual, embarrassingly bad

Also ruthlessly hacked one of our players. Fuck giving that guy a salary, even if it was until January

Pickings already starting to become pretty slim down this avenue:

Keepers - Smithies looks like he’s going to sit on the bench at Leaicester. So anyone not picking up Foster is left with Nyland or Westwood 🤮

Right backs - ignoring left-field suggestions you’re left with Cyrus Christie as your best bet followed by ex-Palace and ‘Pool man Kelly and Andre Wisdom. You’d expect Aurier and Sidibe to get a a gig at some top flight team somewhere.

Left backs - you’re looking on upping the average age for Erik Pieters or Neil Taylor so slim indeed.

Centre backs - once more bordering on the pensionable to unthinkable - 36 year old Cahill, Zanka and Hector (just kidding 🤮). Naby Sarr and Johan Barbet tick the ‘do a job’ box without making you clamour for their arrival. Now we do sign foreigners there are some sexy names like Jason Denayer, Zagadou from Dortmund and John Anthony Brooks from Wolfsburg but you just can’t see Stoke(a), Tuesday night being on their bucket list.

Defensive Mid - Florian Grillitsch still sits there, waiting for someone like Brighton or Leicester to snap him up. Former Palace man Kouyaté has already fallen under the watchful gaze of Forest’s if it breathes, sign it recruitment team. Otherwise not much to see in this position.

Centre Mid - not much in terms of youthful and fit options. A Portuguese called Xeka of whom I have no knowledge. Then you have former Cardiff man Leandro Bacuna and then the no doubt hefty wages and potential injuries of Fabian Delph. Not much to see here. So now Coulibaly and Osborn are crocked be careful what we wish for if there is interest in John/Jimmy Fleck.

Attacking mid - probably where we might have most interest if the sale we don't want goes through. Juan Mata you would expect to join a top division team somewhere. Tom Rogic and the Dutch guy with a decent height and scoring record, Pelle Van Amersfoort are probably the best picks and Rogic seems the easiest fit. I'm also not clear how difficult the Polish domestic league is regards to PVA. There's an Israeli called Dia Saba who has played exclusively in the Middle East, last in UAE. I just don't see us going down that route.

Wingers - if we are to play 3-4-3 these could be an option should Berge move. Junuzaj is the standout option but you can see him ending up at Everton or even Fulham who lost a few wide players recently. Then you've got a few names from the past, all in decline - Cheryshev (ex-Barca), Aaron Lennon, Christian Atsu (did he ever come off anywhere?), Callum McManaman, Anthony Pilkington Sammi Ameobi and arch nemesis Robert Snodgrass! I wouldn't say any inspire.

Strikers - when Lys Mousset is 3rd on the list you know pickings are slim. Italian international Belotti will hit a top league team somewhere and then you have Vydra, released by Burnley and Grabban. I suspect once they've cleared the decks of expensive forwards he could end up somewhere like Watford. He did score 13 last year despite not finishing the season. With McBurnie coming back and Sharp, Brewster, Jebbison, N'Diaye, not to mention Khadra, I just don't see us looking here at all.

So my conclusion is that there is not so much value left in the free agent market for this term. The odd one or two still but most of the good ones have gone.

The next logical thing to look at is when the Premier League squads get announced and one or two get told "it's not you, it's us".
Gone to WBA

Andre Wisdom trained with us at the back end of last season around the time we went with Seriki against Forest. That should tell you all you need to know about his current level.

Once they've gone over a year out of the game you gave to fear for them.

Slight correction on above. Mata went to Galatasaray. Barbet went to relegated Bordeaux.

He should have got a better agent. His agent has fucked his career up. Sometimes players need to know when to tell their agent to fuck off.

I watched a podcast with Craig Davies and he said he had a few crap agents during his career.

Hope we see some coming back now as the barrell is pretty much empty on the free transfer bunch.

Keepers - Nyland of ghost goal fame and Fabri of crocking Bogle fame are the only ones with domestic experience I can see and then some 1 cap Colombian guy. So glad we got Davies ties down.

Defence - Cahill and Hector still there though the latter is trialing with Reading. Ryan Bennet, Neil Taylor and Danny Rose who was looking at Wigan, so players closer to retirement than not. Kwateng from Bordeaux and Kolodziejczak from St Etienne look the main viable full back and centre back options. A number of others recovering from injury.

Into midfield hardly anyone the right side of thirty. Ryan Thomas from PSV recovering from injury and Labyad of Ajax hardly played last season for the same reason. Drinkwater, Rupp, Dale Stevens and Bacuna, recently training with Brum make up an aging unappetizing bunch.

After his unsuccessful but expensive West Ham days, Zaza seems to have fallen off a cliff. Vydra finished the season injured at the wrong time. Nicolas de Preville from Bordeaux doesn't have a great scoring rate for a striker. There is a winger from Brazil who was in the Middle East who probably was released to late to join an English club anyway.

So nobody really of much interest now.

Next to look for is who is perhaps running their deal down and has 6 months to go when January comes around.

'Axel Tuanzebe will leave Manchester United in the summer when his deal at Old Trafford expires.

Not a bad back up signing in defence if we're promoted. Can cover a few positions.

Just posted about Smallbone..... looks exactly right for RCM. Wins the ball, keeps it simple, looks forward. Lot of tidy 1 touch stuff from him v Boro and looked a goal threat too. Scored yesterday

Stoke have gone and battered 3 difficult teams away from home recently. 5-1 at Sunderland, 4-0 at Coventry, and I'm including Boro too even though it was 1-1 - they were excellent

No coincidence with this midfield 3, which they've had since signing Pearson in January. Smallbone though looked the pick of them to me

Soton player though so unpredictable as to their plans with him. We'll have noted him though and I'd expect us to consider him if promoted as well as revisiting OBrien and maybe Archer

I'd suspect they'd keep Smallbone at Southampton next season, if as expected, they go down. They'll lose ward-prowse so he slots straight in there.

Would agree he's worth a look if available though. Would add choudhury to the list as well.

Southampton going down and would probably keep Tella, let alone Smallbone. You'd think.

Problem with players like this is the madness of football.

He’s hardly nailed down a spot with anyone yet because he’s on Man U’s books he’s probably on 30-40k even as Mr Bit Part!

Players we can afford if we go up.
IMO We should start with
Chong, Birmingham
Chalobah, Watford
O'brien, Forest

We shouldn't make the same mistake as last time we were in prem by signing average championship players when we go up.

Haaland dad said his son could only be at city for a year. We should splash the cash on him.

If Utd do get up, I very much doubt they'll splash anywhere near as much on fees as last time. Some signings with comparatively low fees will be made but more will be spent on free agents' signing-on fees & wages and securing top quality loans instead. I could even see McAtee and Doyle return and I wouldn't be too surprised if Henderson had a third stint if Man Utd don't sell him.

All players I'd like and apropos of nothing everytime I see choudhury at Watford who is a player I've always coveted
He is just too late to stop a goal being scored

Don't know what that means but I remember feeling the same about ramsdale just not quite being able to reach the dozens of goals flying past him at Bournemouth but again probably means nowt

You can only have two loans as well as One from abroad and one from championship
I think

You're right! I'm just reading the updated rules, which are obviously intended to stop clubs doing as I suggested.
I don't think they make it particularly clear what is/n't allowed regarding loans from abroad and lower leagues but a max of 2 Prem loans with a max of one from a club will make it challenging especially as Utd will either need to improve or bring in cover/competition in almost all positions - the only possible exceptions being CB (Egan/AA) and RWB (Bogle/Baldock).
