Loved them white shorts, remember going to pigs land when Jones and Sherman were really making there Mark. Match ended 2-2 we really should have won ( a double by Birch for us).
That squad had real potential with the 2 blond bombers looking the part.
Sadly they were sold and we ended up getting relegated.
The board hadn't any ambition apart from keeping cricket going and trying to survive in the 1st division while selling the crown jewels, that really was a shame as a bit of ambition at that point would have seen us join the alive,
I don't believe I am over the top with that statement.
The dreaded white shorts. Hated them then, hate them now. I hope we never see them again.

FA Cup 6th round

Leeds 1 (Madeley) Blades 0

Years later I remember my dad telling me that he was at the match and we were unlucky to get knocked out of the FA Cup. He recalled that a Dronfield Blade (Nip Hague) got furious with Gary Sprake and he was attempting to run on the pitch to hit Sprake but one or two Blades in the crowd got hold of Nip before he calmed down.

The goal that knocked us out of the cup. To most of you , Paul Madeley is best remembered as an utility player but mostly played in defence. During the 1967-68 season he played centre forward in quite a few matches.

Liverpool 1 (Hunt) Blades 2 (Currie, Reece)

This is how the first division table looked before the match. Liverpool had a good chance of winning the league and they were to play 2nd from bottom Blades twice in their remaining 9 matches.

My 17th birthday Peter, I got very drunk that night.

3 matches in 4 days - 2 against Liverpool and 1 against Everton. No whingeing about being tired in those days despite pitches being mostly mud by April....

Manchester United 1 (Law) Blades 0

In the past few years I saw photos of the above match which confused me because in some of them, I saw Man U players wear short sleeved V necked shirts (early 1960s style) and some were wearing their usual long sleeved shirts that isnt V necked. Looking at the match reports, Peter Howard said that the Man U players had changed their shirts during half time and wore their old kit for the 2nd half!

Denis Law injured. He missed the 1968 European Cup final because he was having a knee operation. He did play in the next league game (his last of the season) 9 days after playing against us.
