Alright Blades fans, I have created a new series that I’m doing on the forum called Young Blades where I am going to be creating threads about every young player we have and analysing them to see if there’s a possibility we will see them feature in the first team squad.

Louie Marsh

Given Louie Marsh’s recent performances, I thought it would be a great opportunity to start with him in this series.

The young lad, born in Sheffield has bags of talent 1️⃣8️⃣ league goals for the season proves it all.

Marsh plays in the Ndiaye role, second striker/false 9 dropping into midfield to collect the ball.

Marshy's last 7️⃣ league games:

1️⃣ ⚽🅰️
2️⃣ ⚽🅰️ 🅰️
3️⃣ ⚽
4️⃣ ⚽🅰️ 🅰️
5️⃣ ⚽
6️⃣ ⚽⚽
7️⃣ ⚽🅰️

Why should Marsh be an option for the Blades first team?
We don’t have a second option Ndiaye-like player, obviously last season we had Gibbs-White + Ndiaye who could play that false 9 role in a 2. Now we don’t, we only have Ndiaye.

Giving Marsh an opportunity off the bench when Ndiaye gets cramp/needs a rest if we are winning is a good option next to Jebbo/Sharp/McBurnie.

Louie will only get better with experience.

What do you think Blades fans?

Physicality is key, can you include height and weight stats?

The small teenagers do develop, look at David Brooks for example, but if they're too small, they find it hard for senior football.. Imho.

Look at Ozzy. He’s small and isn’t built. He rarely gets bullied off the ball.

I think osborn comes under the category of "plucky utility man" to play in the championship you'll be dealing with shithouse defenders, osborn has experience, that's worlds apart from what you're suggesting.

Not right now, no. As ever, who’s being dropped for him? Too big a risk at this stage to be introducing young lads for me.
Louie Marsh on the bench for Sharp. Billy should join the coaching team and help out with Hecky and the youth development. Sharp I think doesn’t add much value to the team anymore and I feel like Hecky hasn’t dropped him yet because he’s a club legend and fans will be upset however there will always be a time where we will have to say goodbye.

Can shoot with his left foot, right foot, and score headers. Future Billy Sharp? Possibly but long way to go.

That headed goal against Burnley I thought for sure was going wide as was such a tight difficult angle... but angled it home with aplomb.

Nice thread idea - just a couple of suggestions;

Is it worth adding abit of context to your post about the league/level that our u21s/u18s play in for people aren't familiar with the youth leagues setup?

May also be good to include some more of their career history if known, who they've played for before, did we get them from another academy etc. and also if they've previously been on loan to gain any experience in senior football etc.

Also with the poll options, something like these options may be better?;
  • Deserves a chance this year
  • One of the future
  • More chance in a lower league

Can we also add, hair colour/ type (dont want no mamby pamby Grealish or Bale types) also blood group and current BMI. Additionally 0m to 15m sprint times and HR data including resting, max and VO2 estimate not forgetting flexibility test results and step cadence 👍

I agree, in the main. Wouldn’t be against someone like Brooks getting the odd game/sub appearance when the games start piling up, as he’s been around the first time longer and when he’s played, he’s looked comfortable. But I wouldn’t be taking a risk unless we are desperate with someone like Marsh, just yet, as he looks like he needs to develop physically first, also.

I voted Yes, I think he deserves to be in and around the squad/bench, IF, Jebbo and Osula are unfit. Those two are ahead of Marsh as it stands, but because of Hackford injury’s Marsh has now gone ahead of him in the pecking order should the other two be injured.

He looks a real talent though so his time will come regardless.

This thread and the others you've planned will take a life of its own should we fail to win promotion..

Great idea, you'll be spending some time with Ball_Sup (Phil) I'd guess..
Thanks for the shout out. As always, three match trials available with the Carrier Bag Firm for those wanting to watch Academy games live. Bristol City away the next one.
I won't interfere, as I am incapable of "analysis", not my thing.
I generally go on - has he put a smile on my face - and that's as far as I stretch. I'm happy to see them for the here & now, it's very difficult to judge potential.

I'm all for this personally for the cup game, no point going back to slow ponderous football, give Marsh a place on the bench at least, would like to see Arblaster against Man City just to see him get some decent game time, he'll learn so much. The game is a free hit in my opinion

The main thing that strikes me with Marsh is that he doesn't give the ball away and very clever in all different situations.

If he was the size and shape of Wayne Rooney when he was 17 then gerrimin..

All I'm saying.

Reed was a tidy player. But he was 16-18 when Clough blooded him in. Don't get the hate, as he wasn't that terrible. If we're going on crap academy players. Mark Ward, Jasper Johns, McGinty etc. Even Ironside. But Weir did him no favours playing him up front on his own at Carlisle at 18, against two seasoned lower league defenders.
