I think tomorrow needs to be a different approach altogether. We‘ve become very stagnant and need to break the cycle of poor performances since Christmas.

Our wing backs have rarely contributed to our attacking threat in this period. That’s long been the reason for persisting with the five at the back, so I’d switch to four with a focus on defensive ability. I‘ve also been very disappointed with the defensive leadership from Egan, as well as his individual performances, I’d drop him for this one.

Norwood has now had three poor games in a row, most unlike him, we need more energy in midfield to screen the defence and link the play. Berge has strolled through games in the deeper central role in the last few games, we need to deploy him where he can make a difference - move up the role he occupied earlier in the season when at his most effective. They also have pace and like to play on the counter, more pace and aggression needed in the back four.

Jebbo must be on the bench, Sharp can’t be the only attacking option if we need to change and chase the game. I also pray that if we do need to chase the game we don’t make substitutions (like against Luton) that destroy any structure in the team and effectively leave us with a line of bodies up front and no way of getting the ball forward - it’s quite staggering how often this happens.

I’d go……..

Wes
Baldock Ahmedhodzic Clark Robinson
Doyle Coulibaly
Berge Ndiaye
McBurnie

Davies, Bogle, Norwood, McAtee, Jebbo, Sharp, Egan
Be one change, Doyle for Fleck

as we were saying last night relying on stoke, or preston at the weekend if we do our job, we need a big reaction to tonight because Luton espically the 1st half was terrifying because it was as if the pressure as got to them & middlesborough result has scarred them, they look like england in mid 00's when playing Spain. anytime we get the ball normally the defence treat it like a hot potato & just lump it forward. i have seen us play well in the league

we need to get back to our short game & have forward runners to support ndiaye that is what caused defences issues. ive not seen us play well as well as we know we can since swansea that was 5 week ago nearly. easier said than done but if they play with freedom means a good performance will lift the world of their shoulders & they could fly

What I would do:

Wes
Baldock Anel Egan Robinson
Norwood Doyle
Berge McAtee N'diaye
McBurnie

But I cannot see in what world we go to a back four so I reckon it'll be:

Wes
Bogle Anel Egan Robinson Lowe
Norwood
Berge Doyle
McBurnie N'diaye

4231 is the way i would go now and apart from jebbison for mcburnie is the way i would go but your right im expecting the same old tired 352 formation again

Appears that since the Championship became a 24 club competition, 87 points have been adequate to obtain automatic promotion in two out of every three seasons.

Which means we still need 20 of the 30 remaining points!?! Or basically winning 7 of our remaining 10 games.

Thoughts?
With that same logic Boro would need to win 8 out of their last 9- which I can't see happening based on last night's performance. I think whichever team does end up finishing second (I'm still reasonably confident we should be able to do it) will probably have well short of 87 points.

We sit back and play on the counter...we lose. We play aggresive, high energy, we win.

Agree...that's how we used to play and gained success from it.
Like Middlesboro under Carrick, we didn't worry about conceding because we were confident we could outscore the opposition.

Then Hecky tried some away games (Bristol City, Swansea etc) where we set up very defensively relying on the counter and it worked well.
The problem is Hecky is just focussing on the result, not the performance.

So his tactic seems to be to try and win every game 1-0, we even set up trying to do this in home matches now too.
In fairness we're good at pinching 1-0 wins, when we sit back and park the bus, our defence is excellent.

It's when we attack, sending numbers forward, we get caught out because our defence are too slow, so vulnerable to the counter attack.
Our players have played negatively for so long now, that they've lost confidence when trying to attack.

Think Bogle sums up our team, he's usually great going forward but struggles in defence.
So if we focus on attack then play Bogle, if we're under pressure defending then don't play Bogle.

After saturday my chin was on the floor, after yesterday slightly more upbeat, think we will snatch a nervy win

And that's possible too, especially if the top ten just keep beating eachother pretty randomly!

I'm still banned from the SOL for playing Walk the Dinosaur on a boombox whilst Sgt Wilko bollocked Phil Babb and Matty Piper in 2002.

I would never, EVER bet against the Blades, but f**k me you can get Sunderland at 13/5 to win tonight

Heard Baldock in ,bogle out. Also no Norwood or fleck and jebbo starts, not sure how correct this is but person been right before
Interesting regarding Jebbo, not even been in the squad for the last two, maybe Hecky is keeping Mcburnie on the bench because he's worried about him being booked?

Hope Jebbo's in..gives us that pace in behind and on the counter, and was looking promising before his ban.
