Yes "Deadly Doug" - pretty sure we were on the Doug Ellis Stand when we played villa a few years back, a frustrating 3-3 draw when we were 3 up with around 10 minutes left!

Kinda sums A.H. up the photo.
Always busy, mentally and physically during a game and but for two or three inches, he was 5' 9", most of us have heard that one before , of height recon he would have had a bundle of caps. and that's taking now't from Ron Springett 5' 10"who was a most excellent 'goalie'.
My own opinion, there wasn't a 'ciggy' paper between the two in their prime.

A view of the Lane, printed in the November/December 1973 issue of “League Football”. Capacity at the time was stated at 55,000.



It’s difficult to be sure but it looks like the opposition are in yellow shirt, blue shorts and white socks. The photo could, therefore, be from the 1-1 draw with Newcastle in September 1973. The excellent condition of the pitch would certainly suggest that it was an early season match.

Found this on FB. England v Australia test match 1945.

This match was between a Australian Combined Services XI, Australian military personal stationed in Britain, because of the war, at that time,1945.
It was given First Class status, but not Test status, as the Aussies couldn't call on all their players, the war continuing in the Pacific theatre. The matches were and are known as the 'Victory Tests'
There were three at Lords and one each at Old Trafford and Bramall Lane. They were three day matches, two matches won by each team and one drawn.

Hurley Kinnell I still recon it's big Charley.
55-60 years ago had a good mate from Birtley, who himself was a good player and student of the game as well as a 'Black Cat'. I've, since then, alus kept an eye on Sunderland, amongst other teams where I had a tangible link.
I was present at this game, which left an indelible mark on my mind, as a thirteen year old. Would have been on the photo but the Terrace was full, so ended ended up on the Kop. Att 51,516. 1956 Feb18 FAC5thRound, 0-0. Lost replay, Feb 22, 1-0 at Roker.

What colour were we wearing in that Cup replay at Roker Park. My dad told me that Nip Hague and Graham Beresford from Dronfield played truant from school and went to that replay by train. Next day, their headmaster spotted then in a photo with Blades fans in the train in the papers and gave them a caning
