Set up the winning goal and several times got to the byline and put in a good cross.
Max Lowe setup the winning goal. Berge was involved in the build up with a very good cross. See my post above about his output levels being a lot lower than I’d expect based on how much some people rate him.

The play in the corner where he just blasted the ball out for a goal kick when he tried to get a corner was piss poor.

I understand what you are saying, but without Berge’s run and cross there would have been no goal.
Some of his play was excellent but some looked like mine in the 3rdXI !

I agree, it was a very good piece of play. But it made up for the half arsed effort that we saw for 99% of the game. If you’d like me to dial down my expectations then I need to stop reading about how good he is.

He isn’t good at present. He obviously has talent and passes better than most, but overall he is average, with some really odd bits of poor play.

Agreed, I hope it’s just a case of needing to be moved into his strongest position and getting some match fitness.

Ollie Norwood set up the winning goal… 😉👍🏽

at present if doyle is fit he plays and berge drops to the bench its obvious berge isnt up to speed but hes really got to put more in to it than hes showing just now

Honestly if Bogle is getting towards fitness
I'd play him in front of berge especially away from home ATM
And play Doyle Norwood and macatee at home

Thought Berge looked rusty and he seems to need more time to get match sharp. He was also knackered at the end, and I'd personally replaced him with Bogle.

But Hecky may argue that giving him another 90 minutes will help getting him match fit. Meanwhile, Berge looking completely out of sorts at the end of games could also put off some scouts...

Obviously he won't be playing at Blackpool because if he was PH would have taken him off before the end surely......

Berge has all the attributes to be a top class footballer but seldom uses them. He should scare the shit out of opposition players with his size but he constantly pulls out of tackles, even when they are 70/30 in his favour, and his heading is beyond woeful.

His energy levels as well are also extremely questionable. I've heard all the noise about match fit but this isn't some 31 year old who's been around the block. He's a 24 year old lad who should be near the peak of his physical fitness. He can barely last 65 minutes of a match before he's blowing out of his arse, and this just isn't now it's been since he's been at the club. His aerobic fitness is like someone who's on 40 a day.

There's part of me that thinks we'd be mad to sell him but a bigger part of me each week thinks if we got anywhere near £15m for him I'd cut our losses and look for somebody else.

Thank fuck we are winning

Im sorry but thats just nonsense

He’s not playing to his full potential that’s for sure. When he starts doing what he does best though, he’s great to watch and causes the opposition a lot of problems that they just can’t deal with.

None of us really know the reason(s) why he is starting and finishing games when he appears to be unfit. There could be a number of reasons.

Getting him match fit
Putting him in the shop window
NOT putting him in the shop window (playing him when he’s not fit enough to play well)
Some sort of appearance/contract thing
Him (or agent) demanding minutes or he’s off in Jan
Him saying he’s fit to play when he’s not

I love watching him play when he’s at it, but when he isn’t, he’s one of those frustrating types and, in the last few games, a liability at times.

The results with him in the team speak for themselves. Thay said should be hooked.for fresh legs after an hour.

I was also calling for this change. It seems as if Hecky isn't comfortable using all 5 subs in case something happens really late on.

He's so frustrating to watch great at times but slow and dosy in others but christ we've had alot worse over the years go back six years and we'd have killed for a player like him, happy days

I love watching him play. His great balance, he glides on the pitch with the ball, his vision to pick out a team mate. I’m enjoying him whilst he’s here. He’s a great player, the greatest ever at United have never been the greatest at tracking back etc. So fucking what??? Glyn Hodges, an idle get but he’d win you games out of nothing.

Rate Berge, don’t rate him.
Think he’s unfit, defend him for being back from injury.
Believe he’s going to be here for ages, predict he will sign for a top four side.
Sing his praises or bemoan his lack of consistency.

There are merits to both sides of the debate. But anyone who thinks he was anything other than dreadful today is beyond my comprehension. Two good crossed and a 89 minutes of dross without effort.

It’s amazing how many people think that football is successful because every player does everything for the full 90 minutes.

It’s a team game, where success is gained from the sum of all parts. Berge is good at driving the ball forward, and causing trouble in the opposition box. Because that doesn’t happen every two minutes he’s a shit waste of money.

There are games when he’ll appear ineffectual, through it simply not being a game he can influence, his match fitness, or being crowded out.

Give the lad a break, and for heavens sake forget about his price tag. The money has been spent, so there’s no use continually using it as a rod to beat him with.

The Blades fan base always have high expectations, based on a players transfer fee, or his reputation.
Berge, McBurnie and Brewster are all very different characters, so they will or will not gevelop along different paths.
Doyle and McAtee have good reputations from a great club.
The five of them will all come good IMO.
Berge, McBurnie and Brewster all arrived as expensive players, but it’s no coincidence that they have all suffered from serious or prolonged injury spells, and they are subjected to frustration by fans.
McAtee gets some stick, because he looked good in his Man City U23 clips, but this is his first season in grown up football, unlike Doyle, who has one loan season under his belt already and it shows!
Berge has played through Covid and a very serious career threatening injury.
Brewster looks like a lost cause, but McBurnie shocked everyone with his turnaround as a goal scorer.
FFS just give them all a break and try to balance your expectations more reasonably please.

In this day and age in England, you can not carry players who dissappear for 70% of the game. We have the best ever, in my 45 odd years, in illiman and he tracks back, wins the ball all the time in the opposition half, alway looks for a positive move when he has the ball. Compare and contrast with Berge. 3 years and he has so much ability, I can only assume it is in his head.

I will not bat an eye lid if that was his last game for us and we manage to move him on. Unfortunately I expect silly money to come in for illiman and we will be stuck with Berge, when the pressure will be higher as he will be our most talented player.

Time to move on.
