Disappointing and borderline embarrassing imho.

I'm generally not one who cares if people want or need to leave early. And I'm realistic about regular poor atmospheres at home because I witness them everywhere, even though I'd obviously prefer it to be better.

However, we've had a few games this season where even after wins, very few have been left to clap the players off.

Today, Boxing Day, sell out crowd, 3-1 win to go 8 points clear in the automatic promotion places and hardly anyone left in the ground to applaud the players off.

Even in League 1 we had 75% of the Kop staying behind and giving a rousing cheer.

Struggling to remember such a pathetic number of fans left to acknowledge a win on a Bank Holiday full house in such a lofty position.

I know individuals will respond with their own circumstances, plenty which I understand and respect, but in over 40 years watching us, today genuinely surprised me how few waited just a few minutes to clap us off.

I've seen more when we've been shit in this league and below.
Sell out crowd.....? Wasnt it 29k today??

Why does anyone have to clap them off several minutes after the match has ended ?
I clap them as the match ends as you would for actors or musicians .
Do you start clapping as soon as you recognise the first few passes in the move that leads to a goal and then stand and cheer loudly when we score?

I hate all that american shit.
Of course not !!

Far more important to walk up the Kop steps with a pie in your hand than watch the game when we’re on the attack. Dozens wandering off oblivious on 37 mins. Dozens wandering around at all stages of the game. Pardon me for watching the whole game from start to finish.

More misquoting bullshit
Keep em coming

The little gang of deluded fruitcakes continue to slag me off whilst my quotes and opinions gain more likes than anything they have to offer
If there was an S2 popularity contest, I suspect you wouldn’t be on the podium, a shame because you seem to crave affection or you wouldn’t have mentioned it.

Have you ever looked up at the Kop from Shoreham street during a game you have not attended?
I have, a few times, there are usually people stood visible, who have paid for the match, roaming about, eating, looking down onto the chippy across the road, even half way through the first half.

I genuinely think most people in the ground couldn't even give a toss if we win or lose nowadays.

Far more important that they get home on time.

There were swathes of empty seats as we entered added time, and loads leaving. I commented on the same to one of my mates.

We generally always stay to clap the team off (because I like clapping), and the ground was almost empty. There were boos for the Ref (not sure why), and by the time the Utd team got to the tunnel I'd be surprised if there were 3,000 in the ground.

Everyone's choice what to do, but after seeing off a good team with 10 men, and being joint top of the league, I thought more would have stayed to show their support.

I suppose they all had Ham salad teas to get back to along with good Boxing day TV.

So why was it announced as a sell out days ago and rows of empty seats, can’t believe that so many ST holders didn’t go today for some reason
Where were the empty seats?

I wasn’t there and a season ticket holder, as I’m abroad for Christmas with my mrs’ family. but I did give someone my season ticket for the match.

Suspect a lot of others head off seeing family etc too and maybe don’t know anyone who wants it.

Top of the championship in the thick of the season is probably the best place to be to inspire lively support yet its like our fanbase is suffering from a collective depression...

It was freezing and there were boxing day pints to be drunk... cant blame the fans ...even John Egan left early

been the same at the lane for a few years now couldnt get to the game today unfortunately but watched on sutv have to say the atmosphere sounded dire oh for the days when the lane used to be rocking away fans are right it is like playing in a library these days at the lane just doesnt seem any enthusiasm from our fans anymore last thing was nothing like a sellout must have been at least 1k empty seats on john street for a start
Mate this isn’t just the lane it’s English football in general. The lane is actually a bit better than probably 90% of all english football stadiums atmospheres imo. I go to a lot of away games and trust me there’s many many more wanker atmospheres than Bramall lane

People don’t seem bothered anymore which is surprising.

Get behind your team but end of the day 3 0 up crowd being so quiet 🤔🤔🤔strange

We have become entitled, we all just expect success. Arrogant. Atmosphere both home and away last few months is garbage. We only get behind the players when we feel hard done to. After Wes’ penalty save today we were good for 5/10 then shit again.

We seem to be a victim of our own recent (relative) success. Sad.

i wasnt there but watched on sutv there was at least a thousand empty seats on john street and camera also panned in on blut at least 2/3 hundred empty seats in corner near big screen maybe we dont put them up for sale

There was a shot of the kop after we scored and people were just applauding. We used to leap around and hug each other. Sign of the times I suppose.

Not sure it was the traffic to beat, it’s the best it’s been on a match day for ages.
i thought the same as i saying in the car, wheres all the traffic. never got home so quickly all year

i always stay to the end. as if anyone tries to make me leave i just tell them the story of, last time. in 2007 Sheffield derby, James Beattie scored the stoppage equaliser from the free kick. when i heard the roar from stadium. you can imagine my reaction

Still do where we are in SS and surrounding area. And did yesterday for all three goals.

That's exactly what we were doing at the back of the Kop.

I don’t leave to get a beer 5-10mins before HT and miss start of 2nd half.

Always at my seat 5mins to cheer the lads onto the pitch.

Never moan about anyone who have their own routine and don’t do as I do, even if I have to stand up let people in and out of their seats in my row.

I sometimes, not always, leave 4-5mins early to get off home. Leaving just a few mins early can save me 20-30mins depending where we manage to park. On away days leaving a little early can make a bigger difference to time taken to get home. When you’re juggling a young family and following the blades all over the country it’s not easy and not always just about a day out on the piss.

I’d have a guess that yesterday was more about people the having plans at night but I couldn’t give a shite what their reasons were, they’ve paid their money for their ticket so their choice to not turn up, miss kickoff, miss end of 1st half & start of 2nd or leave early etc

yeah noticed that as well just seemed like polite applause after all 3 goals

What's even more bizarre is how many people are stood outside the back of the kop during the match. For the first time in a very long time, I went for a pee during the second half (immediately after the third goal went in) and there was a group of young people stood at the top of the steps discussing whether their cousin Brittany was coming for tea later. Fucking weirdos.

I'll confess, me and a mate was watching on telly and when final whistle went... we just turned it off.

Nah I'm being a twat and I do get what you mean but I suppose people just.. have life's to lead. It's a pain in the arse being crammed on a bus or tram trying to get home with some wanker shouting down their phone next to you or blowing a mushroom cloud sized strawberry and cream scented vape bubble exclaiming "ITS NOT SMOKING,I'M ALLOWED TO DO THIS" so I think most just want to get off and back to the boxing day traditions.

I agree though the lads to deserve the praise at the end but I see that far more towards the end of the season. They've put the shift in and everyone thanks them for it.

The atmosphere will never be the same as when Wilder was the manager, end of !

Ps this comment is no way having a go at Hecky who is doing an outstanding job , it just that Chris is a Blade , we knew it , and we saw it in the way his passion for the club Shone through .

you only get the scenes like we expect in 1 off games like derbies or Cup. because at the moment we still have 4-5 months of the season to play. there is no pressure til after March international break

Since when has that become the norm? People should always go a bit mental when we score, not just stand and applaud. We're watching football not cricket or golf.
