McAtee pants down

It was fair comment at the time and the lad has also sighted Luton was a massive eye opener.

It's all about learning for young lads and good for him and for us, that he's taken those lessons and is playing with real confidence.

I think Cardiff away before the break was a real turning point.

It wasnt

Berge should have been hooked today and not McAtee

Same last week too.

Lad has come on leaps and bounds since the start of the season. Hopefully city are happy with how both of em are getting on and puts us in a good position for future loans.

Think McAtee has put a bit of muscle on these last few months, looks a lot stronger.

He'll go back to Manchester City a lot better player after the season with us. That Luton game was make or break, on the night he got bullied but it says everything about his character that he doesn't look intimidated by much any more. We've had young loan players come in with big reputations who've done nowt, and ended up disappearing. McAtee won't be one of those.

Enjoy him, some of the interplay with him and Illi today was a joy to watch.

How was writing the lad off at tyst stage in his loan a fair comment?

Why the absolute fuck do we forever write players off so early on?

I don't think it was a fair comment, time after time we've been shown that plenty of players given a good run of games with them being fit will come good. Some won't, but it feels like some fans haven't learned anything from Coutts, McBurnie etc, etc

I think he might be best used as an Ndiaye understudy, then Khadra. We definitely lose a bit in midfield when he plays, but when he is running at players in the final third, he is looking stronger and stronger. Cool finish today, as his You Tube showreel suggested, highlights his potential playing of a main striker.

Did you see todays performance?

No it fucking wasn't. Slagging off a kid who's been here for five fucking minutes. Fuck right off.

Excellent well-taken goal by McAtee today and a good first half display in which he linked up well with Ndiaye. He needed to contribute more and add some end product, which he’s now doing. Delighted for him and for us!!

I don’t think my original post was way off the mark. The lad was billed as a superstar in the making who many thought could tear the Championship a new one. He’s been nowhere near that and faded after an hour today.

I’m not even sure McAtee is guaranteed a first team start when Berge & Doyle are fully fit. It’s really easy to be wise afterwards, so I’m inclined to take the ‘I told you so ers’ with a pinch of salt.

But the lad’s improving for sure and clearly has talent, which I’ve acknowledged. We needed more goals from midfield and he’s starting to deliver more consistently. Well done McAtee - more please!

Why would he go back to Man City ? Never play for them in Premiership ,go out on loan or sold

It wasn't a fair comment at the time because he was a kid playing his first minutes of men's football. It was inevitable he'd get better... and he did.

It's fine to say he was shite at the time but writing him off was ludicrous.

So was he shite or not ‘at the time?’. And If he was, when many thought he’d walk this league, why wasn’t it fair?

What’s not fair is some attempting to re-write what’s been an accurate assessment, based up until 4 months of the season and deny you ever had splinters in your backsides.

He’s improved, great, it’s the least we expected, no? I’d have more time for people who are willing to stay he’ll be a guaranteed 1st team starter between now and the end of the season and score /assist x goals. Any takers?

Biggest improvement I’ve ever seen from a loan player.

The shadow of Ben Woodburn looms large, and I don’t think we can judge fans too harshly for thinking he might be shite based on his early showings.

But now he’s gliding past players, picking good passes, and looks a genuine threat that other teams need to worry about.

I think it speaks very well of the lad the way he’s turned it around, and long may it continue.

Lovely player. Can see why he's at Man City. Can pay him no bigger compliment that that.
He’s getting better & better. He needs to be able to do it over a longer period though, he goes missing after about 60 minutes which if he wants to break in to city’s team will have to change.

His distribution at times also needs working on, but he’s simply getting better & better. One of the first names on the team sheet at the moment & linking with NDiaye really well

Because you didn’t say he was playing badly at the time—you said he wasn’t ready for the Championship and City had had our pants down. You were wrong, just take the L and move on.

I would have gladly sent him back pre-upturn in performances.
Lots of loanees with potential have been good and stayed good, lots have been pants and stayed pants.
He was pants to the point he looked like he'd never make it in the 'big boys' game.
At what point is someone allowed to express an opinion without being told they were too quick to react?

Waiting longer than one game would be a start.
