Really? Really?

Fair enough. I personally think he's the worst striker I've seen for us in my time watching the Blades. His touch is quite frankly appalling, and apart from a neat skill he's got in turning his player, that's about it.

I thought you'd been watching us for a while. it seems you started watching after Carl Asaba, Laurent D'Jaffo, Jon Newby, James Thomas, Luton Shelton and Craig Beattie all played for us.

Anyway, as you've only just started watching the Blades, welcome.

Personally, I would ony have kept one of he two strikers. Either Cressy or Porter.

Too similar for me

Neither have pace
Neither are very mobile
Porters first touch at times is attrocious, resulting in an all too easy loss of possession
Neither have a good strikers scoring record. (although I recognise there are mitigating factors that contribute to that)

Who we are capable of getting in tho that will solve our goal scoring problems next season with our current resource tho, f'k knows?

I can see why he's offered Porter another contract. We have one in contract recognised striker in Cresswell. He was always going to go after Porter or Beattie and after the way Beattie has conducted himself this season not too surprising to see him choose Porter.

i think porter will surprise a lot ofpeople on here next season if.....he has a good pre season and plays regulary

Porter scored 8 goals in 24 starts this season. I am happy that he's staying and people must not overlook his ability to win flick ons. I don't think we made use of that ability earlier in the season, but the last few games when we were going a bit more direct saw him impress. Stevenage's centre halves looked like gladiators, Porter looks like Tintin, but he beat the crap out of them in the air.

He's got obviously go weaknesses too, but if we use his strengths when they are what we need he can be quite effective for us.

I would have kept Porter too. We now have two strikers that are more the 'target man' type who will try and link play and be the supporting striker.

What we need to bring in now, is a couple of pacey strikers that will be the goal-getters alongside Cresswell or Porter.

Carl Asaba who had a 1 in 3 goal scoring record for the Blades playing at a higher level than Chris Porter? The mind boggles.

I must be asking an obvious question guy, but I've been out of the loop the last few days wallowing in self pity. I thought Cresswell was out of contract? but these threads talk like he will def be here next season?

Indeed. all of those strikers played for us at a higher level and I would wager that they'd all have scored the same amount of goals or more as Porter did for us last season.

Cresswell has another year left on his contract.

I think the key is we need a decent, pacey striker to play alongside Porter or Cresswell. If we go with Porter & Cresswell together we have no chance of going up.

I'm with you (again) here Bergers. I think Porter is a useful asset IF we play to his strengths.
My key concern is that, despite the number of goals scored last season, the quality of the delivery into the strikers has beenpretty shocking. Give him the sort of ball that Lowton put into him in 2nd leg of play off semis and he will thrive. Put in a cross that doesn't beat the first man (normal mode) and no one gets a chance.
He will not skin a defense from the half way line but he is a good finisher and now he is relatively injury free I am sure he will improve greatly (given good service) after a good pre season.
What we need is a forward option with pace to compliment him and we also need some pace on the wings with a decent delivery (still)

Robbie Williams put in a cracking left wing cross in that Socceraid game, better than anything we've seen this season, with the bonus of a crunching tackle on Crespo. He probably doesn't need the money either, could be a cheap option?

Does anyone know when Evans's appeal is likely to be heard, just wondered what the chances if us offering him a contract if his appeal was succesful.

What about having a look at Andy Williams, scored about 17 goals for Yeovil last season but rejected a new deal, worth a punt?

Signing Andy Williams would be an impossible dream.

Firstly, forget Ched, if he does go and win his appeal he will go to a Championship club who will get a bargain. Secondly, I understand we have to have a booboy but struggle to understand what Porter has done wrong. Mainly a bit part player we were spoiled with Ched this season. I never saw anything poor from him and he seems capable of bagging goals. Also in his favour he can provide a great foil for a small, nippy striker alongside him. So you get the best of both worlds.

When we needed someone to run his bollocks off, get the shit kicked out of him by Stevenage defenders and still have enough in the tank to bury that header in the last 10 minutes he seemed capable enough. Stuck his Pen away against Huddersfield without any fuss.

The blokes done his job and has been a true team player. Not had a strop when he hasn't started (most of the season) and has operated within the system well. I'll grant you he isn't Ched but then again he didn't cost £3m and isn't currently doing time. So theres a couple of bonuses for starters.

Think he just needs a few starts and a modern day Kabba alongside him.

i think he is the best header of the ball i've seen for ages.. he wins nearly every header 'fairly'.. problem is that his feet aren't as good as his head.. seeing as we don't play route 1 we aren't set up to suit his best style of play.. flick ons to running midfielders.. bradshaw and whitehouse would have a field day playing with him, but (thank goodness) we don't tend to play like that anymore

Tell you one thing in Porters favour its not often he goes up for 50/50 header and not win a free kick. He doesn't seem to let himself get drawn into the whole cheeky shirt pulling and elbowing. Unlike Brownies good friend Darius Henderson.

Further evidence: Quinn's cross in the 1st half of ET, the Hudds defender was extremely lucky to block the header, as he went up for the cross and missed it...

That was going on target that header as well.... damn that Udders defender and his big head! lol

Yep, I didn`t see a replay of the block on Quinns hip level volley either, but that looked to be travelling in the right direction as well...

Difficult to tell from the highlights I watched on the Football League Show (I deleted the sky plus copy I had after me & Ken Jnr watched the pens again at 01:45 Sunday AM) because they didn't show it from behind the goal.

You can still catch the "highlights" on the BBC iPlayer (ironically named since you cannot use it on Apple kit grrr) if you are so inclined.
