Players or Managers that look back and regret joining us

I was wondering a while ago, I wonder if there are any players, or managers that look back on their career and think to themselves, joining Sheffield United was a bad move.

I think there are some pretty obvious ones, like Lee Hendrie and Leon Britton. Can anyone else think of anyone that may regret joining us looking back?
It will depend on how they were treated. I would imagine that Lee Hendrie was quite happy, despite not playing much.

Adkins favourite unseen worker might not have enjoyed it, along with Woolford

Jordan Slew, the only player I can truthfully claim to be ITK on.

He hated every moment at United and was of the opinion the club was holding him back in his career ambitions. We were small-time in his eyes.

Judging by his trajectory, I'd say he's probably had a few more regrets since, cunt.
We were very much small-time back then. The fact he was only slightly better than our other small-time youth players should have clued him up to his impending shitness

This. I’m struggling to think of players who wouldn’t have been financially rewarded for failure here.

Even if a player flopped and moved on, that’s two signing on fees.
Being miserable at work potentially wrecking your life is universal I'd imagine, regardless of pay.

Not sure if he regrets it but things couldn’t have gone much worse for Sander Berge - moves country to join an upwardly mobile team with an LMA Manager of the Year in charge - 18 months later:

  • global pandemic before he’s properly settled into his new digs
  • he’s on his third manager
  • he’s injured
  • we’re in the league below
I’m sure he’s being well compensated financially all the while (and in fairness to him he looks happy enough) but I can’t imagine he’d have imagined this scenario even in his most feverish nightmare when he signed.

Sander Berge has been a disastrous signing all around.

Vinny Jones (he wasn't Vinnie when he signed was he) he regrets moving to United.

Tries to gloss over that he ever played here, shits all over us when he's forced to even acknowledge that he played for us between Leeds and Chelsea.

Must have felt a bit silly though trying to sell "soccers" hardest man dvds with Billy Whitehurst sat next to you in the dressing room..

Got squared away in Detroit? and dropped the hard man act from then on..

(slag us off when you were made captain, cheeky barstard)

I've never heard him say a bad word about United 🤷‍♂️

Bit of early morning comedy for you. Have a look at that glowing record.

15 clubs for 16 goals.. Have I read that right..

I'm genuinely shocked..

He was quick but he looked like a young cameo, minus the red cod piece..

(they both had a flat top haircut you see).

I love that sort of table and the stats it throws up.

He scored more league goals for Plymouth (4) than any other league club, with United (3) second on the list.

Ignoring the single goal he scored in Scotland (in 20 attempts), he played for 10 league clubs and found the onion bag 10 times, a cool one per club. He then dropped out of league football altogether for a couple of years.

Eventually, Morecambe saw something in him and in 28 appearances, he raised his career total of league goals by a full 10%, from 10 to 11.

He may blame United for holding him back, but a striker who failed to notch for 6 of his 10 league clubs might need to question himself as well 🙂

Memory sure does play some weird tricks. I thought he was a lot more prolific for us than 3 goals.

That's the thing about a lot of footballers, they aren't often big on introspection.

Shame on those 17 clubs for failing to recognise his brilliance....

I've often thought this.
It's a bit of a testament that his attitude seems positive regardless. Also good on PH for keeping it that way.

Do think he's expecting to move any time though, didn't he say he moved out/sold his property this summer and was living out of hotels because he thought he would leave?

His injury could stop him moving perhaps again.

I think it was more Howard Kendall he had the problem with and we got caught up in the crossfire

He was the perfect style of player to have been loved as one of the best forwards we've had. Just went wrong
I'm pretty sure he referred to our fans as the most racist fans he's ever played in front of.

There were also rumours he'd be last out of the dressing room which coincided with wallets going missing.

I was only about 10 at the time though and I bloody loved him, and his sale was another in the long list of poorly timed sales

Micky Adams took over letting heart rule his head, leaving Port vale who were top of League 2 at the time & we ruined his career
