McAtee pants down

He was given the ball in plenty of really good positions today and did absolutely nothing

I can forgive him being weak in the tackle ,positionally naive and a defensive liability if he actually did something on the ball other than just give it away under no real pressure but he just doesn't seem to have the bollox for mens football

Have to agree, hes another youth team 'star' like brewster who is not up to the mens game, no way he should be starting ahead of Doyle who has been excellent imo

Absolutely amazing that he started today

But we're obviously not heavily incentivised to play him or anything are we

Can't start two kids in him and Brewster who don't know how to play their positions

Gave a like to the post about him learning his trade because it’s bang on the money. Not defending todays performance though. Agreeing with your post because of the rawness but amazed that a similarly inexperienced young player in Arblaster is put forward as an answer.

Another disappointing display by Ben Woodb.....oh

He is two years away from being ready for this division.

I'd rather give the minutes to Arblaster. Despite being younger he looks for more robust.

He should be nowhere near the starting XI.

It's like playing with ten men when he starts.

But Arblaster could be ready now? Based on what?

In his defence it's hard to do something with the ball when there's zero movement around him, and he's obviously finding it very different to Premier League 2 football where he'd run rings around similar sized players.

A season in the championship will personally do him the world of good (like Doyle) but at the moment it doesn't look like it'll do us much good (apart from the fact it helps us fill our starting 11 which is proving difficult)

FFS,he's a young lad learning his trade,it's not his fault he's not the finished article.
Learning his trade at our expense...I'd much rather Arblaster did that than we school a City teenager.

No problem if he's good enough like Doyle is but McAtee isn't up to it yet. No doubt he will turn out to be championship level but he needs to get there on someone else's watch not ours

Get your point Sean but surely better to player a player that is contracted to us?

I understand that but the manager and coaching staff don’t appear to agree. But mainly because it’s an opinion which is not based on seeing him play first team football.

Are we? What do you know about the deal Ricky? I assume you’re ITK about this.

Is it too early to call for my apologies from the pants down haters who sprung to McAtee’s defence?

I actually think the lad is improving, albeit slowly. He does have talent and weights his passes quite well. However, his defensive / tackling abilities are awful, he lacks strength, goes missing for too long and hasn’t grabbed his chance with Berge out, yet.

He’s a million miles away from the player some blinkered fans thought we were getting. Of course, we have a lot more problems right now than McAtee.

Are the dummy spitters still backing him to come good? I hope he does, but it appears increasingly unlikely.

Everything he touched went wrong today but the last few games he's at least put a shift in. He can't tackle or head but he is now at least tracking back a bit.

I'm still a bit confused why he's here. He's not a centre mid, but that what we're playing. Similar with Khadra. Not their faults, although neither has really impressed, but we'd be so better off if one of them was a left footed CM.

On the subject of Khadra,
How many games does he have to play to activate the transfer clause?

I sincerely hope Heckys carefully ticking them off on his calendar, we don’t want to be lumbered with him permanently🤨

I think he he's got talent but unconvinced he has the intelligence or application to fit into a system. For someone so quick he goes slow when not running towards goal.

Yeah I think he’s one of those one good game to four bad games, type of player.

Re Macatee I wonder if there is any clause in our loan deal stipulating that he has to have a certain amount of game time. When we signed him half of the championship were after him so it's unlikely City loaned him without some kind of guarantee of game time. Otherwise he could have sat on our bench all season.

I suspect Arblaster would have benefitted from a move similar to Osulas

1-0 down and an hour gone. Don’t know how this is going to turn out, but McAtee having his best game tonight.

If anyone is going to get us back into this, it’s him. Positive, not hiding, lively and good weighted passes. Much more like it. Well done lad.

Bar two driving runs he’s been invisible.

PH handling of both McAtee and Khadra is nothing short of criminal young players being pissed about both should request to go back to their parent clubs in Jan. Appreciate at times both players have flattered to deceive, but little cameo roles how can you expect to see the best of them. Tonight in my opinion Osborn should have gone off not McAtee shocking decision by PH .. UTB

He should have hooked N'Diaye.

It just wasn't happening tonight.

Sometimes it isn't.

You can't just keep players on in hope.

Clearly wasn't happening. Khadra should have come on for him.

Don't hate me, but Billy was fucking useless when he came on. Literally everything he touched turned to shit.

Agree with all of this.

100%. Khadra offers pace and threat. We play Billy ? McAtee was better than most tonight. I find Hecky’s subs mind blowingly bad

I wonder if those fans who are super critical of our midfield players, might yet be grateful of two Man City prospects in our squad?

Football loan politics aside, they are two very different players at different stages of their careers.

To me, that's his position now. Inverted winger of sorts. Coming inside where he can dribble, shoot and put crosses in using his left. He'll be a good alternative to Berge and we can manage minutes much better that way.
