Team vs Norwich?

Haven’t we got a young LWB, in the Under 23’s, anyone rather than Osborne who shouldn’t be near the squad even with all the injuries we have.
I assume Stevens still hasn’t emerged from the black hole he disappeared into 3 months ago at Watford? I’m sure he was supposedly in the group due back ‘in a couple of weeks’ about a month ago along with Robinson and Osborn.

I think you could ask Norwood to sit in front of the back 4 with Doyle and maybe Fleck in front. It's not ideal and we may get overrun but maybe it's worth giving something else a go while we have these Injuries. I just don't think you can say a back 4 won't work when the only time we've tried it under Hecky was with a defence featuring Gordon and Basham
I did consider Norwood there but he's often there anyway and he tries but he's limited defensively.

There is, I guess, this:

-----------Davies
Baldock-Anel-Egan-Robinson
----Norwood---Fleck
-------Doyle--McAtee
--------Ndiaye
----------McBurnie

Might be easier If Paul just asks all those who are fit join the group on the left and all those injured stay seated.

Unless PH brings Jack Robinson in hard to see the back 5 changing from when RND went off.

Davies,

Baldock, Anel, Egan, Basham, Osborn
Norwood, Doyle,
McAtee
McBurnie, N'Diaye
As much as I like Basham it would make sense to play JLT as he is more of a natural for that position.

This is pretty much the team i would go for.

Think playing Doyle higher up gets the most out of him.

Yes we played a back 4 vs Stoke but that was without Anel, i would only be comfortable going to a back 4 if he was available which he is now.

Davies
Baldock Anel Egan Robinson

Norwood Doyle

Mcatee Khadra

Ndaiye
Mcburnie

Very similar to me but I'd swap Fleck for Khadra and put dyle where fleck was

So, your idea is to play 31 year old John Fleck who has played a few minutes since coming back from an injury, whose legs have pretty much gone and who is notoriously unfit after a break in the most physically intense position on the pitch?

Genius.
Sometimes you gotta read the username rather than the post. Anything by FallowfieldOwl just discard/ignore.

Reckon we might see both Stevens and Clark in the squad Saturday. Stevens may start. Did any team details emerge from the behind closed doors game at Grimsby?

Robinson has to start LCB. Get Fleck and Doyle in the middle.

We are pretty screwed whatever team we put out, but I genuinely can't understand how anyone would want Brewster leading the line on his own. I've seen nothing to suggest he can do this. Hold the ball up. Play off the last defender.

Given I think we should try and play a fairly settled side in their usual spots, I'd suggest if everyone is fit enough to play:

--------------------------Davies
---Baldock-----Anel-------Egan-------Robinson------Osborn
----------------Doyle------Norwood------Fleck
---------------------Ndiaye----McBurnie

I can't see how we can play Norwood and Doyle in CM and not get completely overrun there.

We lack height without McBurnie (who was excellent defensively from corners last night - Did anyone else notice he had a free role, with no one to mark, so he could just attack the ball?)

Starting Robbo and Fleck is a risk. As is Osborn for 3 in a row post injury. But I'm not sure what choice we have really. You could play Baldock at LWB and Sachdev on the right but that's a huge punt.
Tend to agree with you.

I like Doyle as a player but he's not as defensively robust as Fleck. With that formation I think there is a case to have Doyle deputising for Berge. He's a lovely crosser of the ball and Pep alluded tl the fact he could play a bit further forward.

At some point Stevens must be back. He's another good servant who is going downhill, but I'd take him over Osborn if fit.

The IF FIT is the worry. The team we should probably pick will have at least two left sided players, if not three including Fleck, who are all coming back from injury.

If there was a betting market for injuries, Ozzy and Doyle to pull up on Saturday 😭

It’ll be the same 11 as Wednesday night with Osborn at LWB and McAtee in midfield with Doyle and Norwood.

Osborn will pick up an injury and likely Ndiaye too as he’s been played in to the ground recently as we refuse to rotate even in positions where we have other options.

But, god forbid we change formation to account for the injuries. We were bad against Stoke with a patched up back 4 so that means it’s never going to work for us and we have to play with a back 5 for the rest of time.

Do wonder if it might be worth dropping N'Diaye into the CAM role and playing McBurnie and Brewster/Sharp.

Nothing against McAtee but N'Diaye looks best just that bit deeper than a striker in my opinion. And he's a battler too in midfield.

--------Davies--------

Baldock Anel Egan JLT

----Norwood Doyle--

Ndiaye Khadra McAtee

-------McBurnie-----

Time to be brave and ditch this notion we can't play a back 4. Use the players we have in their best positions.

No idea how Khadra has proved to anyone he's worthwhile trying. For those that say he's not played his best position, what is his best position? He's come on a few times CAM (looked average) & moved to that position vs Stoke after starting on the wing & he was awful. He was average LW for Germany. I don't see what people are seeing in him at all.

Hope he proves me wrong but if we're paying 15-20k a week for him in his current form then I'd be spending that elsewhere by the end of January.

I'm not sure why apart from hatred anyone would drop Oli McBurnie.

Tin hat on... It's definitely time for a back 4.

We only just have the players for 352 when everyone is fit and we're nowhere near having everyone fit.

We're trying so hard to stay compact and give nothing away that imo we're stifling our own creativity. The players should still be doing the basics but low confidence is having an impact, and putting square pegs in round holes is affecting confidence. Vicious circle.

Davies

Baldock
Anel
Egan
JLT or any fit left-sided defender (not Osborn)

Norwood
Doyle

Khadra
Brewster
Ndiaye

McBurnie

Set up more rigid than usual, ie the defenders defend and the attackers attack. Everyone trying to do a bit of everything is too much to ask when we're not at full strength. We also have a lot of attacking options and are short of defenders.

Keep Brewster central in the 3 behind McBurnie so he'll have plenty of opportunity to stay between the posts and play off McBurnie. Ndiaye and Khadra can swap sides whenever.

Norwood will always have at least 4 players in front of him and Doyle can get up and down as required.

I think Anel and Egan is a good enough centre back pairing but Osborn and baldock at full back worrys me
Baldock and jlt maybe but not sure the long thrower is fit enough

Robinson back in contention is he ? At last a bit of good news.

Ps I’m not being sarcastic I like what he offers

We must be able to have a 4 at the back in our locker.
Opposition scouts probably don't even bother watching us anymore, they just get the dosier out from 4 years ago. We are so predictable how we will line up and play.

Anel rather than Basham makes a back four more viable as long as we have a left back available, Osborn as a wing back is fairly hopeless, but he's completely wrong for the left of a back four. If Robinson is fit enough, then it becomes a more realistic option and opens up the potential to play Khadra and N'Diaye as wingers
