Is it happening?

It's going to be an exciting season.

That's better than the last two seasons, barring the end of last season, when we really could have nicked it against all odds.

Whisper it...I hate thinking it, but it is a bit shit or bust this season. Like the second season under blackwell after the robson experiment failed, where Burnley went up, and have only just come back down again, after a yo yo or so.

I've drawn a parallel in my mind there with slav being Bryan Robson, and Heckingbottom being Blackwell.

It's all been a little bit better this time though...two seasons in the prem. Earlier sacking of the expensive "name" manager, the assistant's remarkable revival actually getting us to the playoffs, and a great start to the new season.

So there is a chance it may be happening.

Let's hope mcburnie/berg/ndiaye/ahmedhodzic/egan don't get beastie flu.

Great start

I guess the thing that worries us all is the disruption of the World Cup.

The only other thing that will derail us is the injuries, re Clark can't he be sent back to recover?

Lastly let's hope if we are in and around promotion spots in January we don't succumb to the 'big dogs' bids for our players.

This has got the feel of the promotion from League One rather than the promotion to the top flight. By this I mean surpassing expectations and new heroes emerging, i.e. Norrington-Davies and McBurnie.

The World Cup may be a problem. It’s going to disrupt our momentum. I just hope Ndiaye doesn’t have an amazing tournament or he’ll be gone in the JTW. In fact, a small injury just before would be quite welcome.
Apart from that, looking very good.
You see, I’ve been thinking the same all season but it’s also only a 4 week break. We’ve clearly got a top squad and first team judging by where we are after only 10 games, so that’s 4 weeks to rest and recover. Most of our players aren’t involved in the World Cup and we’ll have some warm winter sessions to further work on our shape.
The big risk is injury from the players coming back into competitive 2 weekly league matches after that wind down, however given the squad that’s more likely to negatively affect our competitors than us due to our options.
We’ve built a solid base in our first 10 games, nothing more, but I’d much rather be setting the pace rather than chasing down for a change.
Let’s build on our good start and ensure we’re still >2 points per game after 21 going into the break then we can start seriously thinking that something is happening.

The world cup for me is a welcome break, with our injuries we are in danger of burning out some players , especially illiman,

The bigger risks are the international breaks where we have key players away and only back a couple of days before we play again.

We’re certainly looking good for top 6. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Watford and Burnley spend big on January. West Brom will also have a new manager soon. Feet firmly on ground, a couple of injuries and we could be stuffed

It would surprise me seeing as Burnley appear to be financially fucked are look to be getting investigated to boot

I’m firmly in the it’s not happening until the final whistle on the final day of the 23/24 PL campaign of which we were part of and played all 38 games??

That aside I have that feeling going into game where I expect us to win, and if me Mr negative thinks that the. The players must also think that and as a pro athlete that’s an incredibly powerful asset

Yes, the JTW would certainly be no Time To Get Ill. If they do go, we'd have to show our Gratitude for their performances so far, and hope it didn't Sabotage our season. We might be best telling the likes of Berge that if you want to move, you need to Fight For Your Right by playing brilliantly between now and the World Cup.

The remaining lads would have to Get It Together for the rest of the season, but let's face it we'd be an almost Sure Shot for promotion if we didn't sell anyone. It took them a while to get used to The New Style under Hecky but right now it's like We Don't Play No Games We Can't Win.

Anyway, let's hope they Do It and we get more promotion scenes of the players Drinkin' Wine and sipping on Brass Monkey.

Either way you need to Lighten Up, all of us need to Stand Together and let The Maestro Heckingbottom guide us to promotion.

Unless valuations are met I don’t see the board selling with the finishing line in view..

They have proven over recent windows that we are no longer a push over and if the goal is promotion then why jeopardise that?

Isn’t the fact that this is still called Beattie Flu an indicator that it’s clearly behaviour from a long passed regime? It was 2009.

Minus one point for no Intergalactic.

Hopefully but it’s a known unknown. There has never been this scenario before. In a normal season, I’d be quite confident that we would continue in a similar vain throughout the season and finish in the top two, unless we had another bad run of injuries or something happened that can’t be predicted. This season, we’ve got this break coming up and we don’t know how it will affect us, or other clubs.

As you and others have said, with our current injury list it may end up being beneficial to us and it gives us time to work in shape with the players who came later in the window, particularly Khadra, McAtee and Doyle, who missed much of the pre-season with injury. And unlike the Covid break, we know when it’s happening and for how long so we can plan for it.

Sent back where ?

Over the moon at the moment but I suspect it will be a season of two halves and we’ll all end up sick as parrots.

the omens are good

when mcburnie scores 4 in 5 games you know change is happening
and a goalie who no one thought could , keeps clean sheets as standard

I don’t think the break will make any difference at all. Indeed, it might even be welcomed by the players. Doesn’t have much, if any, bearing on the leagues that regularly have a mid-season break. Personally, I’d be more worried about JTW!

At the moment I fancy Blades to win the World Cup AND the league, tbh.

So far so good but it’s always better to remain cautiously optimistic.

We will have a spell at some point where we don’t win for 3 or 4 games and it will be a test of the squads mettle. Could possibly lose Berge in the JTW and no doubt there will be a couple of injuries picked up along the way at critical moments of the season. It is how we react to those moments that will determine how we end up finishing this season rather than picking up regulation wins in September.

At the minute all we can do is keep picking up points, looking after our business and trying to build a gap up at the top. Birmingham and QPR at home next and both games we should be winning if we have aspirations of winning the league. Win those and we could be 8 or 9 points clear of 3rd after 13 games played.
