All grassroots football including kids called off too. This means AFC Newbury under-11s trip tricky early morning away trip to Reading on Sunday is postponed. (My 10yo is the keeper.) So I get a lie in. Bring it on! Or rather off.

Yet Grassroots training is still on. Just matches are off.

Bonkers decision. Josh Windass of all people has summed this up quite nicely for me.

Edit: Also shout out to Hal who now misses his last possible home game before heading overseas.

We've eradicated polio since then 😁

To be honest I don't fully know. I think the floodgates of public grief were opened with the death of Princess Diana and this is a result of that. I just hope we're much more dignified about it this time round. The scenes in 1997 were fucking repellent in my opinion.
🎶 ‘Goodbye, England’s Rose…’

Still time for football to change its mind and do the right thing???

I understand perfectly, if you want to carry on doffing your cap that's your perogative. Try to understand the Queens death means absolutely nothing to a hell of a lot of people, hard for you to digest but true.
It clearly means a lot to you given the number of times you've posted about it. Try to feel some empathy for the people around you who are in mourning and for your country. It might do you some good.

I'd guess the decision to postpone professional football has been made with an eye to avoiding embarrassing scenes at the grounds. I don't know how likely it was that there'd be booing, the wrong kind of chanting/singing, fighting amongst fans, etc, but the possibility is definitely greater than zero. Last thing the suits at the FA/Premier League/EFL want is a week's worth of Daily Mail headlines along the lines of "Football's Shame as Nation Mourns."

The postponement of kids' football is harder to explain.

All cricket back on tomorrow!! How can there be a sport differentiator??
Totally agree and love to watch cricket so barring rain then my viewing sorted! My view is blanket sports postponements by law or all to continue, as I believe HM would have wanted.
This makes ludicrous reading too as to the organisational decision making that has taken place....

Highly likely seeing as though it has already happened at the Hearts game yesterday. Seen a few different videos, plenty of “fuck the Queen” shouts on the minutes silence and then plenty of booing once GSTQ started.

Test cricket can't be postponed. It gets cancelled.

How in the everlasting fuck is RUGBY still going ahead?

Yeah. And even if there aren't the same political divisions around the questions of nation and governance in England as there are in Scotland, there's still the potential for something to go off.

I feel for her close family obviously but the rest of the bandwagon mourners nah.

Seems football is out of line with the vast majority of other sports.

Hopefully policing issues are not a factor next weekend.

A mistake to call this weekend off but they'll learn from it I guess. Only another 20 or so years til the next dead monarch.

Until we have all cried ourselves to ash, because mourning is now compulsory, and any enjoyment will be limited by those who aren't themselves inconvenienced.

Now get back to work.

Are british peopel really mourning the queen and/or being fan of the royaltees?
Genuine question as I've never understood such a thing.
