How quiet was the Kop

Boro fans were decent on Sundi, but a lot of their noise is manufactured by drums

I think these days folk tend to sit on the kop because of cheaper tickets, rather than wanting to create noise. Is what it is

I was only saying this to the chap who sits next to me last night, the atmosphere at BDTBL is poor and i don't know why because we used to have the place rocking. Even 6K at West Brom last Thursday in the Cup made more noise than us last night...

Fucking sing up Shoreham

You don't need girly songs to create a good atmosphere

The noise is there when we get on the front foot and attack.

But there isn't a good atmosphere in any stadium when the opposition have most of the ball, or when the home teams possession is dull, sidewards and backwards passing, as ours has often been

We have avoided flair players like the plague for generations and benched whatever flair we have had. When MGW started doing his stuff last season the atmosphere picked up, and if McAtee, Khadra, Berge, Anel, Ndiaye are given licence to do what they're good at the atmosphere will improve

Agree with that.

Another point is that over the decades the Blades thrive on being the underdog.
Hence in the PL our vocal support was consistently impressive.

Now we're back in the Championship, it's almost like we're back in league 1.
We're often the favourite and many of our fans automatically expect us to win...so it's not such a big deal when we do win.
I think this is a big part of the reason. As a club and fan base we thrive on being the underdog and proving to' bigger' teams we are a better fan base. In the premier we are up for it every home game. However in the championahip it's almost like we feel we have a given right to roll everyone over and sit waiting for it to happen.

Also it doesn't help repeatedly churning out the Sheffield United, Sheffield United chant as that divides the singers in two.

The atmosphere is pretty crap and has been for years tbh, in general.

I think we probably need to go down the 'manufactured' route of having some sort of organised group/area, like Boro have, to change it around.

Definitely does. We don’t even have a section that stands up next to the away end like most other clubs seem to.

I reckon the atmosphere on the Kop would be better if it was majority standing too.
So would it be cheaper to stand?

Yep, no organised section to get the chants going. Not saying an organised section is the answer to the problem but surely it would help. Get a drum in if it helps. Sunderland fans were brilliant last night.

One would have thought then that once we went 2-0 up with an extra man, playing well, that the Kop would have been in top form yesterday. Within two minutes it was silent for the rest of the half outside of an embarrassing McBurnie/Porter song. Sunderland meanwhile didn't shut up all game.

I still think we are on a hangover from the Wilder years.

From league 1, to the Championship Promotion and then being 5th in the Premier League those highs were pretty darn immense.

Blackpool had one of the best atmospheres I saw for a while last year on my travels.
5🤪th

That's the problem though
Sheffield United are never safe and out of sight

3-0 up and 10 minutes to go, it's safe for any other fans to crank the volume up, but not us.

We are not allowed the luxury of enjoying the football, it's just not allowed.

Midweek games are always flat (aside from big games which this wasn’t) unless an incident kicks it into life like the Blackburn game last year. The whole “under the lights” thing is a myth.

People having to rush there from work, less likely to be drinking etc. I much prefer a Saturday afternoon.

I've been to one match abroad, to see Sampdoria, and despite being the last game of the season, with nothing to play for and losing 4-2, the home atmosphere was incredible!!!
And I tell you what, it was an amazing experience, much more fun than beimg quiet.

Safe standing will come, but will be better for the team, and fans, if the good atmosphere returns before then!

Every home game is like a pre season friendly. I actually cringe a bit when players say ‘the fans are incredible’ because that’s just a lie. I don’t think you change it but atmosphere is so flat nowadays, definitely not as enjoyable as an experience.

I think it’s mostly down to post premier league blues (just a working hypothesis). It was good when we chased the prem for so long but now we’ve been there, and we know what awaits us in our inability to realistically compete, maybe the drive has gone?
What the hell do you want? Some twat stood there banging a drum all through the game, like at Middlesbrough last Sunday. That was the most cringeworthy atmosphere I’ve ever experienced…Apart from bouncing piggies of course.

I had the pleasure of working, and had it on my sky go through the headphones, I can tell you it sounded OK, and quite loud to me..

Do sky enhance the crowd noise then?

This is the dilemma. Away fans at The Lane find it incredibly cringeworthy that that our "anthem" requires the DJ to play an old record over the PA to get it all started. Yet, we, in the crowd, think it's brilliant. If you want atmosphere, you have to forget this "it's cringey" nonsense. Fans in home ends which have got it all together - like Middlesbrough, Coventry, Forest, Palace - they don't feel cringeworthy once it's all going on.

They certainly modify the crowd noise. Just watch any Championship game and you will tell exactly when either fans are chanting Sky TV is fucking shit

Ricky ses your all shit, and if anybody is serious about chanting and singing, you can meet him in the singing section of the BLUT!

Personally, l don’t know anyone who thinks it’s “brilliant”. It’s Garyoke being out of touch and has been going on too long. Never used to happen until he decided to Maggiemay it. The dick.
