It's not just the Kop, whole ground is on the quiet side unfortunately. It's been like this ever since covid.

I'd say we only sing when we're winning but even then, it lasts about two minutes after a goal and then goes quiet again.

Every home game is like a pre season friendly. I actually cringe a bit when players say ‘the fans are incredible’ because that’s just a lie. I don’t think you change it but atmosphere is so flat nowadays, definitely not as enjoyable as an experience.

I think it’s mostly down to post premier league blues (just a working hypothesis). It was good when we chased the prem for so long but now we’ve been there, and we know what awaits us in our inability to realistically compete, maybe the drive has gone?

Agree, but last season Middlesbrough, Forest, Huddersfield, Coventry, Millwall and Derby made far more noise than we do at home (these are just from the away games I went to and can remember).

They had more sections of the ground standing throughout the match, and made more noise, usually with the aid of an irritating drum. Getting oustung at Coventry and Huddersfield made me want to leave early.

I think we're just generally lethargic and docile at the beginning of the season.

The first few matches of last season were also dull as fuck atmosphere-wise, but things did improve greatly after that, due in large part to a pick up in form.

But that's the problem. In terms of making a noise, we've always been much more reactive than proactive.
Support - by definition - should be about influencing the game by making a noise, rather than having the game dictate how much noise we make.

Looking at the thread on twitter from ShorehamView I can see why the Kop was quiet. Our vocal fans getting harassed before the game, think I would be subdued and annoyed too.

I've heard a few cases of this now. I missed Millwall at home due to work but from what I heard and from what I've seen here, these twats are mostly picking on women, kids and the elderly.

In other words, they're cowardly scumbags on a power trip, and they need to be dealt with by the club immediately.

There were definitely times when the lane was rocking last season, too. Hate to say it but the only ground I've ever been to where it where it's always a good atmosphere regardless of result is Elland road. Never been to Boro or Cov but I can certainly remember games where the others you mentioned had flat atmospheres at home. I think atmospheres in football, especially from home fans, have been on the decline for years.

I still think we are on a hangover from the Wilder years.

From league 1, to the Championship Promotion and then being 5th in the Premier League those highs were pretty darn immense.

Blackpool had one of the best atmospheres I saw for a while last year on my travels.

I do most away games and with the odd exception alot of 'home ends' in grounds are fairly quiet. I'd argue our away support is just as loud as others

I can understand if the crowd is quieter. Nervy, hopeful (but not expectant) crowd, waiting for things to slowly click into place = quieter. As confidence comes, the crowd will grow. It's all a bit chicken and egg innit.

Agree with that.

Another point is that over the decades the Blades thrive on being the underdog.
Hence in the PL our vocal support was consistently impressive.

Now we're back in the Championship, it's almost like we're back in league 1.
We're often the favourite and many of our fans automatically expect us to win...so it's not such a big deal when we do win.

Actually, it was partly down to Björk being there. I'm normally one of the more vocal but it's so hard singing about Norwood's ping when my tongues down Icelandic throat.

Definitely does. We don’t even have a section that stands up next to the away end like most other clubs seem to.

I reckon the atmosphere on the Kop would be better if it was majority standing too.
